Infuriating Details
kolbjha replied to SirSpoony's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yeah, cranks are easier to turn fast. On the other hand (), you will often need an extra hand to stabilize the model when turning the crank. That is not necessary when turning a knob. -
[TC20] 8858 - Rebel Wrecker
kolbjha replied to Ivorrr's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice choice of set and a good start. Live rear axle seems like a natural improvement. The real star of this set is IMO the front suspension with the anti-sway bar, and I hope to see similar in your build Good luck, I'm curious to see how this develop -

42126 - Ford F150 Raptor

I know I'm nitpicking now: I guess they'll fit in steering as well Looks really good, I hope it is comparable to the Defender functionwise. -
3+R sequential RC transmission
kolbjha replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice, thanks for sharing! Seems to be robust, and easy to adapt to the build. I have not yet tried to make a RC car with transmission, I think I am going to try with this one -

Should we only use parts currently offered by TLG, or can we also use retired parts? What about 3rd party strings, rubber bands etc.? -
[REVIEW] 42117 Race Plane

In Boost dark azur is used, not turquoise, if I'm not wrong. But, yeah, I understand what you mean. -
Technic 2021 Set Discussion
kolbjha replied to LvdH's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What about the pullbacks 42026 and 24027? I think they are from 2014 1H. My point is there was no "gap" in numbers between 1H and 2H in 2014. -
42107 - Ducati Panigale V4R
kolbjha replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well done TLG! Even I am not a motorbike enthusiast, I will for sure get this one. A good 3-in-1 for me; good functions, good looks, good parts -
[TC18] Trabant 601
kolbjha replied to Go-Kart's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Totally agree that it's irrelevant for TC18 My only intention was only to point out that even TLG has used this connection. And thanks for an interesting article on brick stress -

Not my intention to reopen the discussion regarding connection between half pins and Tecnic triangles, but in my opinion it must be considered legal. If I remember correctly, the same technique was used at least for the 8868. If the method is used in official models, I guess it's fair to say it's legal. Ok, I realize that the 3/4 pin was introduced in 1995 (three years after the 8868), but I think my point is still valid. -
Generic Contest Discussion
kolbjha replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I am now repeating an idea I posted almost three years ago in another topic. What about a universal set contest? The entry would have to be a universal set inventory and instructions for different models. Perhaps different classes; basic, pneumatic, PF, etc. A good entry in a competion like this, would include only common parts. In other words, anyone with a decent modern Technic collection should be able to replicate the models (perhaps not in the exact colors, but still...). -
42108 - Mobile Crane
kolbjha replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Manually operated outriggers is one thing, to me totally manual slewing is even worse. On a mobile crane, IMO the core functions are related to operation of the crane itself, including slewing. I am aware of that all the "modern" mobile cranes (42009, 8053, 8421) have only manual slewing, but still... Slewing worked perfectly well on 8460, it shouldn't be to hard to implement in newer models. Perhaps LEGO believes that manual slewing gives better playability, easier to bring the boom to parked position etc.? -
Your Best Technic Bargains
kolbjha replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I find it for NOK 3472 at lekekassen.no, that is around £295. But it is a Norwegian online store, and I think they only deliver to Norwegian customers.
