[MOC] Simple Supercar
zweihander replied to Lipko's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't understand the fuss about the color scheme. I think it looks great regardless of the colors and I think the colors make it look much better. -

I think it's much better with the lowered roof. And I love the overall model, it has very clean shapes. -
Basic MOC techniques
zweihander replied to MrAwesome's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I've come out of my dark ages around 1.5 years ago, and I've just recently started being able to build decent MOC's. If you were used to studful building, getting used to studless building takes some time. Being able to imagine what kind of connection or mechanism or gearing etc you need for something takes some time. I really had trouble at this stage. My advice is don't be too hasty. Try to build official sets and other people's MOCs as much as you can and try to take your time while doing so and analyze mechanisms and stuff. You start to learn bits from each and every one, even if you're not aware of it. Also try to start small. I find myself building better if I have some kind of limit, size or piece count or anything. If I don't try to adhere to a limit of some kind, I find myself building too ambitiously and failing. This may be temporary and may pass as skill increases over time (hopefully ). -
Thank you. The white door is a Manitou thing, without it the model would be just a telehandler. And I think that it looks a bit more striking than full black cabin. Good to hear. I'm planning to create instructions after the contest finishes. Thanks a lot. I really like those photos too. The caged one looks like it's just been delivered from the factory, and the other one makes the model look much bigger and mighty

Opinion on Status of SBrick
zweihander replied to knotian's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't really agree with that. SBrick provides a functionality that makes a lot of sense given the current state of widespread technology, very much the opposite of what regular PF remotes offer. I'll actually go ahead and say that it should have been made by LEGO, long time ago. -
Wow, I feel honored . I'll do it as fast as I can, even though that render will probably make mine look puny next to Jurgen's

I'm thinking of building something that's not a construction machine, kinda like set 9393. My inital idea was a dragster sort of vehicle with 4 wheels on the rear axle & pulley wheels on the front. I may also try an ATV, if nothing else comes to mind. But I'll see what comes up when I grab a hot cup of tea and start building it I'm currently modeling this in MLCad and after I finish that, I'll get right on the B-model.

Hi everyone, it's time to fully unveil my TC9 A-Model, Manitou Telehandler. The manual functions: folding forks and cabin door: Forks will most likely be replaced with better looking& functioning technic fork parts in the final version. The movement range of the boom, both raising and elevation. Raising the boom is done with two 1x11 pneumatic cylinders (second one will be added when it arrives ) and extending the boom is done with the 24z gear on the back of the boom. Changed the boom extension gear from 12z to this because it was too slow to extend it fully in the old version. Attachment Angle is controlled by the red axle connector at the end of the boom. Also pneumatic: Outriggers. Rubber feet on the outriggers provide better grip than regular beams/connectors. Here's a bonus shot that I really like: The rear black connector controls the boom elevation, and the front one controls the outriggers. And here it is sitting comfortably inside the 17*36*16 bounding box. The model is actually one stud narrower than the box, so model's volume is 9216 cubic studs. All images are clickable for higher resolution versions. If you'd like to see some more photos, please head to the flickr album.

RC Mini Truck
zweihander replied to Chade's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looks super cute, and it looks so much fun to drive! The looks remind me of the Suzuki Super Carry that I adored as a kid. -
Well, I tried that and it looks rather good, but it came apart lifting the slightest load. Yeah, I like to build fully technic . I also generally do not mix studded with studless. Well, except for the boom this time

Yeah, I'm definitely gonna try that piece, it looks just the right scale & form. I just have a slight problem, I'll have to order it from bricklink. There's only two viable bricklink stores here in Turkey, and both of them are unavailable right now. One of them is on vacation, and the other one still hasn't sent my previous order for 2 weeks (1x11 pneu cylinder) because he is moving. And if I order from other stores, I may need to wait 2-4 weeks for international shipping to arrive. I guess I'll have to save the final photoshoot to the last week of the competition, and shoot both models at once.

[C-MODEL] 42000 - Bootleg Belle
zweihander replied to Immo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Maybe we can use banana as a size limit for the next competition? -
Thank you for your thoughts, feels good to know that heavy cannons like you guys approve this model . The A-model is finished now. I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out overall. Unfortunately it was late last night so I couldn't take pictures. I'll take some and post it tonight. Meanwhile, I can't decide on which type of fork suits it better: I think the axle looks better and more in-scale, especially when folded, just a bit wobbly. The beam is sturdier, but looks a bit large for my taste. Any opinions?

Sorry to hear that. It's moments like these when people experience the 'bullet time'. You look at the tripod, falling gracefully. Then you take a look at its target, and notice the 8258, sitting there all innocent, like a bunny under a speeding truck's headlight. Time slows down, rain drops start to float down like feathers. You feel a strange sensation taking over you. Then the tripod hits the 8258 and it goes flying. At this point time comes to a complete halt. Rain drops linger in the air, without any trace of their momentum. But 8258 doesn't. You imagine the impact, and the bitter sensation grows, completely engulfing you. Than it happens. Gravity works its magic against all your wishes. A single teardrop falls from your eyes, rolling down your cheek. Again, sorry to hear that.

Hey everyone. I couldn't spend a lot of time last week, but I got back on this again recently, so it's time for an update. Here's the list of improvements: 1- Completed cabin. I may tinker with it for a bit, but it's finished more or less. Also added mudguards and they improve the looks greatly. You can also see the pneumatic pump on the right side of the top image. I tried a rotational pump, but it proved to be too shaky. This one is much more stable because it is very close to the wheel. The bottom black gear on the right is steering and the top one is boom extension. 2) Worked through multiple iterations of outriggers. At first I tried something with manual linkage, then one with LA's, and finally decided on pneumatics. This final version both looks good and functions well, in a compact space. Also it doesn't touch the wheels or the boom. The rubber pieces at the end really provide grip. I'll replace all the connectors on the outrigger feet with rubber ones in the final version. 3) Again, multiple iterations of the fork. This version functions good enough, and is stable. The only downside is that the forks do not fold up. I may modify it if I can think of a good solution to folding, but I won't use pneumatics on the fork because of stability issues under load. Here's what I'm planning to do next: - Do the bodywork. This is the biggest thing missing. - Clear silicon hoses are placeholders, I ordered some official lego hoses and will replace them. (It's almost impossible to find third party ones with colors close to Lego here in Turkey. I ordered some blue ones but thier material was polyethylene and they were very hard) - I'm also waiting for a 1x11 Cylinder. Final version will use 2 for lifting.

[REVIEW] 42001 - Mini Off-roader
zweihander replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Once again, excellent review Jim! Than you for not skipping this small but pretty great set. I also got two of this and I have to say, I really admire the nifty suspension. Building a third bodywork for the same suspension system is still on my backlog.
