[WIP] Lancia Stratos
zweihander replied to piterx's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Congrats, the hood looks good now :) My opinion about the headlights is, remove them if you are going to do it in plain color, but keep them if you want to try the iconic alitalia racing livery. -

It's good to hear that it's not dead, and it looks like it's coming along great! My only question is, will the battery stick out like this from the hood? -

Which tool are you using for the modeling? The renders look awesome! -

Can you show us how you solved the steering mechanism? It's a very hard thing to do in that small space. Btw, I love your model! It was one of my icons as a kid. -
Since I got out of my dark ages three months ago, and finding older sets is hard here, most of my small-mid my sets are 2014. 2x42020 twin rotor helicopter 2x42021 snowmobile 2x42026 black champion racer 42023 construction crew 42024 container truck 42027 deser racer I might get the 42029 pikc-up truck too in a couple of months

Looks good, but it's a little bit more technic more than model team for my taste. Then again, it has only been around 3 months since I got out of my dark ages, so you may disregard my opinion :)

The popular opinion seems to be against digital building, so it seems I might join just for fun (provided I can actually build something ) The problem with actual building is, at least for me, it's very hard to obtain parts. I live in Turkey and lego shop does not ship here. And for bricklink, shipping costs are high, also there is the question of if it will be able to pass through customs without a problem since we are still not in EU. There are shops based in Turkey, but their parts catalogs are very limited. The most feasible and cost effective way to obtain parts is to buy new sets, but it may be costly to buy numerous sets, just to gather some specific parts.

Can't say I'm very good, but I have some experience (and some cheat sheets :D ). Maybe if you tell me what you need (and how to access the data), I can try some things with the topics related to the MINI contest. I'm guessing we need to parse the BBCode of the posts in the entry & voting thread? -

Maybe we can create a script or tool that directly accesses the forum database which can generate voting post, or check&aggregate votes etc. I'm not familiar with forum software ( or other web-related software ), but being a software engineer, I would be glad to be of help. -
I was just going to ask if it would be okay if I build digitally, and hope someone with enough bricks builds it and takes photos. Not that I have any hope of being able to build something good, but one can dream :)

I think a C-model event should not be a competition, it should be an event like a theme month, without prizes. This way, members who do not own the set can share their digital creations. Nobody gets left out, and we all see more awesome creations! There are a lot of sets to go through, this event can be done bi-monthly. What I am saying is, whenever there is not a competition, there should be a c-model event! I am excited by the idea :) -
Congratulations to the winners, it is a well-deserved victory for all of you. Also congratulations to all the entrants, it was a lot of fun competing with you all. And I have to say, I'm really amazed by the creativity in this contest, it shows us what Lego is all about, imagination.

Mini Unimog 4x4
zweihander replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I can't quite put my finger on it, but I feel like there's something wrong with the ratios. Are the tires a little bit small for that scale? Or is the gap between the tires and the body is a little bit larger than it should be? I'm not sure, maybe I had too much coffee today. Overall, I like the cabin and the body. Nicely done in this scale. -

I don't think a fake revote would yield trustable results. Current voting participation is quite high since it is frontpaged, and people from other subforums are participating a lot as a result. In the case of a fake revote, most people would not take the time to vote again, and percentage of technic subforum regulars among the total votes would be higher, therefore results may change drastically. If we can devise an algorithm to convert the current votes to F1 scheme, that would yield a better result, with the exception that finding that algorithm is almost impossible. But I'm definitely in favor of trying it out in the next contest. -

You make a good point. I withdraw my opinions about F1 style voting :) -

In retrospect, I think people who look in detail and spend time on voting tend to distribute points to a large number of entries, whereas people who spend less time tend to just give the points to less number of entries, therefore making them jump ahead. Of course, I don't have any measurement on how long people spend on voting, so this is just a guess. I think a Formula-1 style point system would force the people to spend points more evenly, therefore making the competition closer. But that's my 2 cents. -
Well, I don't think Jim's gonna count the points manually. A script that goes through all the entries and calculates the total votes would be much easier. I am guessing that's why he requested that no other text should be present on lines where points are given. edit: he replies faster than me :)
