  1. This is my third freebuild of the month. If you're not one of the Sea Rats and you like the build please (And don't forget to state your allegiance). Previously... Breaking Out Complications Next... A Planning Session Finally back aboard the Bleak Angel, Captain Dracken calls his first mate, Alastair Jakes, and helmswoman Liliana Vespwood to his cabin to discuss the next move. And, of course, where Liliana goes, Althea goes too. Inside, Althea picks up a small native idol and sits on the Captain's bed while the others gather around a table full of charts. “It's all very impressive,” Jakes says, “but where is it leading?” “Have you heard of Oedon Black?” Dracken asks. “Can't say I have, Cap'n.” “Well,” Dracken begins, “some time ago Oedon Black was a rather well known trader in certain circles...” “And,” Liliana interrupts, “by trader you mean smuggler.” “Only some of the time,” Dracken explains, “but yes, Mister Black did quite a bit of smuggling. Made a fair amount on trading outlawed texts, tomes and artefacts in Oleon.” “Sounds like Mister Drave,” Liliana states, “but since you're using the past tense am I correct to presume Black is no longer with us?” “Correct,” Dracken says flatly, “the authorities caught up with him and, for his crimes, executed him. Sky burial, or so I heard. Wouldn't even let his soul rest in Hades. However, Oedon Black knew better than to store his wares somewhere the Faith could find them.” A voice rose from behind the trio. “You mean the Heretic's Hoard, don't you?” Althea asked. “I do indeed,” Dracken responds, “I already had the key before our misadventure on LeBellan. Now I have the last map we need to find it.” “Let's get to work, then.” Jakes says.
  2. What's the best way to do that? I've tried with four or five different models and they've all produced that result.
  3. Since installing the 4.3.9 LDD Update any attempt to render my existing models with BlueRender has produced this error message: java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 1 Uninstalling/reinstalling 4.3.9 did not fix the error.
  4. I'd recommend a photo showing the character's face, but the overall build suggests a cramped, cluttered, improvised work space and looks pretty good. After all, I'd imagine a mercantile company has fewer resources for projects with low material rewards. Sea Rats

  6. Yeah, after the last couple of results you've had I'd look into getting the full fixed as well.
  7. That is a rather cool horror story you have there. Good work, and great use of some of those minifig expressions.
  8. It really is a handy link.
  9. If by Blender you mean Bluerender, then yes. I did a few test runs with other builds before these to make sure it was working properly (had a few issues with the height of the Bloody White Crow's masts). Quite happy with the results. And thanks. Thank you. The rowboats were actually the part I was most worried about; they could easily have come across as more goofy than thematic and stylised. I couldn't get the rigging to work to add in a crow's next/look out post, sadly. Might try again if I'm ever upgrading the fort. Also, I forgot to mention this in the original post, but the gentleman in the red coat is Roland Blaze himself.
  10. With thanks to KolonialBeamter for suggesting I use rendering software to improve the presentation of my LDD based builds. One of the greatest dangers of fledgling settlements is the threat of raids, be it less scrupulous Sea Rats, other nations, or even the natives. When the first settlers arrived on Isla del Diablo they tried to establish a proper defense for the town. Roland Blaze, captain of the Crimson Marauder, offered his heavily damaged ship to form the basis and provide materials for the first fortress. In honour of this, the settlers refer to the building as Fort Crimson.
  11. A couple of questions: 1) The Mayor of a settlement, an ingame character is necessary but it does not have to be your sigfig, correct? 2) Am I right in thinking you can under-license a build (license it as a smaller property than the actual build) but not the reverse?
  12. That cabin build is quite impressive, both in ingenuity and execution.
  13. I didn't even notice the 'missing' windows until they were mentioned. Really good street scene with plenty of things going on in and out of the buildings.
  14. Everyone needs some time off once in a while. That's a good slice-of-life build, though the size of the build makes it seem a little underpopulated.
  15. That is a very nice fort. Digging the modular playable aspect as well.
  16. Availability of real bricks is less of a concern for me, as I can barely afford the bricks I need to finish off the big(ish) ship I'm working on, so things like this are remaining virtual builds only for the foreseeable future. Though you're right to say using readily available bricks would likely help (a lesson I I have learnt after the issues I had with part of my ship). As for rendering, I have to admit I have no idea how to do that and have yet to look into it. Sometime soon, perhaps. That said, I'm glad you like the overall build. Thank you. I try to break up large sections that could easily become featureless masses of a single colour, so I always try to mix up the browns a bit when using a lot of them.
  17. Lead by example? In other news, the fort is delayed while I reconsider the design. Had an idea to do something a bit more interesting than more log walls - part of the theme for my Haven builds is things being borrowed from the ships that brought the settlers there, so I'm temped to try something more complex for the fort to represent bits of it formerly being a ship.
  18. Thanks. I think I'm going to post the fort tonight, if I don't decide to redo the lighthouse/beacon to be based on a ship's mast.
  19. Thanks. I'm trying to stick to the non-extended mode for LDD builds as much as possible though some elements, such as cannons and rigging, aren't available in standard mode. Consequently almost every element I use should be available in some form. To actually build this would probably require some more support in the roof sections. Regarding seeing inside, there isn't much to see aside from some more bedrolls like those you can see in the above pics and a second set of stairs; it's a pretty austere building to be honest. The firepit is placed where it is partly because of how much room the entry steps ended up taking up, and partly to fill an otherwise empty space on the decking. I may get some pics of the interior later.
  20. Don't mind me, I'm just taking notes over here. That exterior brickwork looks like it took serious effort to build, but suits the run-down look of the building really well.
  21. A slightly belated Welcome Aboard to the new players. Always happy to see more Sea Rats. On another note, I decided to take advantage of our new island and start my own settlement, Haven. You're all welcome to build there.

  23. Settlement Name: Haven Owner: Sea Rats Location: Isla del Diablo (Challenge Island 11) Island Description: Located southeast of the Nest of Thieves, Isla del Diablo is named for the large bay and small peninsulas that, once a map way drawn, resembled nothing so much as the horns of a monster. The bay, however, provides an almost perfect natural harbor and a well defensible position. Unsurprisingly the island has already started to draw settlers, although some are scared away by talk of cannibals... Haven is one of the first new settlements. The inhabitants arrived in a small fleet to find clear beaches and dense jungle that provides plenty of material for building endeavors. Already the de facto leader, Roland Blaze, is drawing up plans for fortifications. After all, there are more than just Sea Rats out there. Mayor: Roland Blaze (kaiju) Size: Hamlet Who can own Property in Haven: Sea Rats Who can freebuild in Haven: Anyone Map: Here Fortifications: Fort Crimson - Small Fort Licensed Builds in Haven: Black Tower Lighthouse - Medium Commerce Haven Common House - Medium Residence The Shrines of Haven - Small Art & Cultural Tanith's House of Knowledge - Small Education Unlicensed/Other Builds: Hunting for Spiders About Haven
  24. The first settlers to the ominously named Isla del Diablo needed somewhere to stay. So it was that they pooled together to build the Haven Common House. A few simple rules, and some common sense, generally keep the peace while the Sea Rats build up their presence and resources on the newly discovered island. The common house is built from a mix of local wood and timbers removed from damage ships from the flotilla that brought the Sea Rats to the island. Although little more than an overgrown shack it does have a fire pit for cooking - and keeping the residents warm - and a small bell in case of emergencies.
