LEGO Ideas Discussion
Alpinemaps replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Me too. I'm willing to pay $180 x2 for two of these sets. I don't see how I can have *just* the Lions on display, or *just* Voltron on display. I'm going to need to have both on display. -
Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces

Okay....what in the world is that from? It looks like a penguin wearing sunglasses? -
Stunning. Looks fantastic!

Nice review, thank you! I just recently picked this up, because of the integration with the Roller Coaster set. I'm wondering though - could the Boost be used to attach to say, the Carousel and programmed to make the carousel go?

LEGO Ideas Discussion
Alpinemaps replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I know we're all anxious about Voltron, but we just need to relax. There are a lot of moving parts on this. Yes, it's been two years. But you have to remember - it was one of the fastest to reach 10K, and did it in about 3 weeks time. And reached 10k about 12 hours after the cutoff for a review period. So we had to wait 4 months for it even to go into the review stage! Then we had to wait two reveals before it even got announced as successful. That right there took a year. Beyond that, you've got multiple rights holds (USA holders and Japanese holders). You've got animated series on Netflix that has a schedule. They're going to want to time it just right. For all we know, they may want to do a reveal at Comic Con. Or put it on sale at Comic Con. Lot of crossover marketing that can be done there. I think LEGO also learned a lesson with Doctor Who - they put it out there, right as one series ended, and there was nothing on TV for over a year to support the set. Also, this is one of the largest Ideas sets to ever be produced. The set needs to be designed just right. I'm sure a lot of time is going into those fine details to balance playability, etc. I've waited this long. I can wait a little bit longer. (But, I get it...I'm anxious too!) -
I might be speaking out of turn - I don't have a lot of experience with LUGs, but, from listening into a conversation when I was considering joining one, I understand that some LUGs are allowed to order bulk parts from LEGO. It's my understanding that you're not allowed to sell the parts you get in bulk when you're part of a LUG, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happens regularly. So I'm sure some LUG'r got 1000s of parts from LEGO cheap, and can resell it and still make a profit.

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces

Even more specifically (and hopefully this is allowed), here is the Parts section of Brickset.com: https://brickset.com/browse/parts You can browse by all sorts of categories, but they have a section based on "Date Added" to the Brickset database. -
Do you have a set number for that?

Voltron & Ship in Bottle IDEAS approved
Alpinemaps replied to Hoth Rebel's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Great, fantastic. Glad it's here. I'm interested. I'll buy it. Now...bring on Voltron!!!! -
Divisive, yes. I'm of the opposite opinion @ood0. I love TTG. My kids love it as well. It's meta as heck, and as a old timey comic book fan, I love all the references and easter eggs. I'd love to see a couple LEGO sets from the movie. Maybe we could get Aqualad or Terra or the Fearsome Five (all speculation, no spoilers - I have no idea who else is in the movie beyond the main TTG cast of 5).

Did anyone ever post the instructions or an LDD to this?
-
Actually, no. I do not own a single Taj Mahal. I have an incomplete one I picked up this summer from a neighbor. It's missing the first instruction book, and I don't know how many pieces. I do have about 70 sealed bags of pieces, though. I spent all of $45 on it. It'll be good for my winter village. Or, now that it's coming back out, maybe I'll inventory it, figure out what's missing, and build it. Others are right - this is not the first re-release (I'm looking at you Death Star and Winter Toy Shop). Only time will tell, though, if I'm saying the sky is falling, or if it really does. I value this brand, and I value those things that are special. I love the uniqueness of big sets, and I love that big sets tend not to be re-released. I want LEGO to look forward, not backward. There are so many other interesting buildings to create and sell, that putting out a set that has already been done just reeks of being lazy and greedy. And no, I don't believe I have to MOC for a LEGO set to be considered special. If I didn't think LEGO was special, I wouldn't be buying it.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
Alpinemaps replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Interesting. I’m pretty sure I saw a knock off Chinese brand showcasing a Carrot minifig sometime this week. Totally possible it’s a takeoff of the custom, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they got it as a leak from the China factory of a real minifig. -
Well, it shows that LEGO is willing to cut corner, reduce develop costs, and just pump something out for a quick buck. If LEGO sets are always available, they aren't special anymore. Why should I buy them when I know I can get them at Lego's price, whenever I want? Or, to put in into Shop @ Home terms - the "Retiring Soon" tag means nothing as a sales pitch, if I start thinking it'll be back soon enough.

Just stumbled upon this. Any chance the photos could be uploaded elsewhere? They aren't showing up anymore.

Has anyone seen the instructions for this posted online yet? I'd love to Bricklink just even the tree.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Alpinemaps replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I'm not sure how long they've been out of production. Individually, I think it's been a few years. There was a blue baseplate included with the Sydney Opera House, though. The photos that were leaked earlier this week shows Blue Baseplates back as an individual item again next year. So, looks like they are back. -
I'm definitely interested to see how this works out. Please post some progress!

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Alpinemaps replied to Gearslover01's topic in LEGO Town
Interesting that Thursdays have been a popular day to announce. The Ideas sets were just announced this past Thursday. And with the "average" pointing toward the 10th, and it being a Thursday...seems like this week would be a good possibility. -

Me too! I am SO happy to have Voltron. I will definitely be buying two - gotta have my Voltron and my Lions standing next to one another. There were a ton of really good projects this time around. I really like the Ship in the Bottle set - it appears to my love of LEGO ships, and my love of Micro LEGO sets. I also really dug that Vintage Tram, and thought that would look great. It's a bummer it didn't happen. -

I didn't mean to suggest that Voltron was happening because season 3 drops tomorrow. I was merely suggesting that the announcement of its section is timed to the release. I do think the delay was related to Voltron. I then think that they decided to wait until the drop of season 3 to announce it. I'm sure LEGO would have liked to announce it a couple week ago - I suspect they had this all tied up just before Comic Con but wanted to do the cross promotion. No inside info, just my theory. If Voltron doesn't get announced today I will definitely be bummed! -

Just to add to some speculation... Voltron Season 3 trailer just dropped yesterday (Tues Aug 1) with Season 3 hitting Netflix on August 4 (yes just 2 days from now). Maybe we get an announcement this week? It would be excellent timing. -
Future DC Super Heroes Rumors & Speculation
Alpinemaps replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
Genuine curiosity - why couldn't they put their classic looks into a set? Some sort of contractual agreement? -
I would buy the heck out of those. You could have a whole line of "famous comic book covers." Detective Comics #27 with Batman swinging in. Wonder Woman #1 with her riding a horse. And on and on...
