TBRR (Texas Brick Rail Road) Austin Meetings
JopieK replied to garethjellis's topic in LEGO Train Tech
The Facebook link does not work and I think you also think you should not link to other fora in this way. -
One problem with power pickup is that LEGO is very light. I have had a colleague from the mechanical engineering department mill me some metal wheels. One can then use e.g. desoldering copper wire to pick it up. To make a reliable connection one will still need to add a lot of weight on the wheels especially if one would want to use DCC for example (that was my intent).

Great job Ex cinno

North American 3' Logging Mallet locomotive

Great train ShrikeArghast you really caught it well! -
Those new parts for the Vulcano sets also might be good candidates for such a constructs.

True, but there is also another route and we will probably never notice if LEGO uses that route (and the definitely will consider it): they work together with different companies (some are even located adjacent to the LEGO factories), if that company would buy out a third-party on behalf of LEGO they could just incorporate that technology. I was amazed to find the company (actually two companies) that makes PF stuff for LEGO at a large electronics faire and I spoke to their people about integrating electronics in plastics.

Is that so? It can connect to multiple bluetooth devices (at least bluetooth low energy), at the same time! The 4.3 implementation will also support meshing of multiple bluetooth devices and is supposedly merely a software update. Granted that it is not very common and costs some effort to make use of multiple bluetooth devices but it is doable. In fact in the background iOS keeps a list of all bluetooth devices that it sees. See: https://spin.atomicobject.com/2016/01/20/multiple-ble-devices-in-ios/ About trains: would be great to see a new train. Hope that LEGO will also pick up on the SBrick idea and buy them out :)

In case of 3D printing I recommend shapeways! I have used that for other (non-LEGO) prototype items, but they are very good, especially the acrylic material.

Very nice!!! Great book, great deeper insights in what really matters in this universe, and great MOC on this theme after all as well!

It is a nice built Ludger! A touch of 7750 and of My Own Train and of some originals. LEGO would be wise to even bring it out when it would not reach the desired amount of votes. The red undercarriage would be a not so wet dream for all train fans of course!!!

Cable is not the problem I presume, the connectors will be the largest challenge. Mouser / Farnell have a lot of small cables.

Soapy water (dish washing soap) often works very well to reposition stickers. It will not deteriorate the glue if you don't use too much and too aggressive soap. After a while the soap and water evaporate and the stickers will not be respositionable anymore.

Very nice Ex cinno. I like the 7-wide option too, 8 is too wide in my opinion, but 6 makes one loose details. I like the brows version better although the light blue looks nice too!

That is great news indeed. But still hoping LEGO will release some train items this year but I'm afraid not.

What's your budget for lego and how do you keep them?
JopieK replied to wgemini's topic in General LEGO Discussion
We needed the bigger house indeed haha ;) But the problem is my wife has a list: - detective office - bank - simpsons - ghostbusters - then all the new Technic sets So then my budget is probably LUGBulk haha ;) -

I'm moving all my LEGO right know, already four car loads, probably need a fifth. Hmmm... it's an addiction ;) -
Experiment: Using Raspberry PI and SBricks for automatic train control
JopieK replied to Asper's topic in LEGO Train Tech
On the train side I indeed agree that SBricks probably is the best option at this moment! I use IR, have IR poles next to the tracks, does the job but has it's disadvantages (mainly line of sight of course). The Teensies are very small though! @dr_spock, it has 4 USB ports so one could add a BLE USB stick. -
Experiment: Using Raspberry PI and SBricks for automatic train control
JopieK replied to Asper's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Very nice idea although I don't think the Pi is the best choice. I think an Arduino would be a better choice for detection, maybe connecting them using XBee nodes. The bad thing about SBricks (and in fact all BLE 4.0 solutions) is that meshing is not very good. I'm looking forward to new 4.2/4.3 chips that allow meshing at a hardware level. I'm currently making a home automation system with about 13 Arduino (in fact Teensy) nodes and a Pi as controller, very effective. -
I've found lots and lots of metal track for sale
JopieK replied to Paperballpark's topic in LEGO Train Tech
So it might not be LEGO compatible and why then do you post it here? It is a nice find, but better for non-LEGO railroaders wouldn't you think?! -
Hi Brick Hog. That is not a very wise idea. Please read our rules first: Read This. There is a special buy / sell subforum. You are also revenging a 4+ year old thread and that is not how it is supposed to be! So welcome to eurobricks but first familiarise you with the rules that you agreed to when joining!

Review: 75827 Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters
JopieK replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
Very nice set, too bad it is so expensive, my wife wants it so that means I don't get that much LEGO this coming year haha ;) -
Very nice!!! Great idea, should become a new set!

Welcome to Eurobricks sube82. I agree that the 7740 is a nice train, that was my first motorised one when I was a kid, but please don't only awake older threads and also try to be involved in more recent topics.
