Technic 2017 Set Discussion
AVCampos replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Judging by the white elements on the body, I'd say the sprockets are light grey instead of white. -
A Interesting Discovery with trans Grn & Orng Pcs.
AVCampos replied to Stauder's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Unearthing this old topic! I too noticed the fluorescence effect on trans-neon-green, and thought about placing a few discreet UV LEDs on my Space layout (it's Blacktron 2 vs. M:Tron, so there's TNG everywhere). However, if I'm not mistaken, it's the UV component in sunlight that ruins LEGO colours, especially white and blue. Has anyone got any experience in long-term usage of UV to illuminate LEGO models? -
Oh, how I wished to still have assembled the jeep with Hurricane-like extra wheels I made many, many years ago... Regarding electronics and third-parties, are MINDSTORMS add-ons like those from HiTechnic and MindSensors allowed, just like the SBrick is allowed? Hah, that's exactly what slammed into my mind as I was reading the contest rules! This video is also a good showcase of what the vehicles do: There's already a crossover with Transformers (well, mostly shout-out): in Transformers Prime, Optimus Prime's new alt-mode is said to be based on a vehicle from the "M.A.S.K. Division".

PF switch is too stiff
AVCampos replied to AVCampos's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks all! Yeah, I'll work out that switch until it moves by itself and generates limitless energy. As for the rubber bands, they're there to force the switch in either of the two extreme positions: compared to no bands, it takes more effort to reach the mid point, but they automatically pull the switch past that. -
Hey guys, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I want to semi-automate a MOC by using a PF switch mechanically attached to two opposing bumpers. I have a pair of rubber bands set to keep the switch in either of the two "on" positions. The problem is that the switch is so stiff that the bumpers by themselves are unable to fully flip it, so it gets stuck in the middle "off" position. The light grey beams at the tips constitute the bumper, and connect to the switch via the black diagonal beams. I'd probably have more success with a 9V switch, but I don't have any available and all the other electrical components are PF so using converter cables isn't practical. Any tips on how to make this work? Thanks!

Definitely! To me the most "spacey" colour is by far trans-neon-green, but I can't beconsidered inpartial, due to my like for Blacktron II and especially M:Tron...

I think I read somewhere some time ago that TLG considers Space an "evergreen" theme, along with City and Castle.

SBrick General Discussion

When you do, please share with us what you found! ;) Alternatively, I'm looking at this PS3 controller; I wonder if it'll work with the SBrick? http://www.dinodirect.com/dual-shock-3-wireless-controller-for-playstation-3-white-p41350522.html- 780 replies

Bluetooth Low Energy is Bluetooth Smart. A given Bluetooth device may be Smart Ready, which means it supports Bluetooth Smart as well as "normal" Bluetooth, or it may be just Bluetooth Smart: So, it could be said that BLE is a subset of BT 4.0: some devices have both BLE and the other BT functions (like the iPhone 4s and newer), others only have the other BT functions (like the Nexus 7 2013), others only have BLE (like the SBrick).- 780 replies

Regarding the PS3 controller, will any one do? I don't own a PS3 and my Xperia Pro only has BT 2.1, so I was thinking about buying an "imitation" controller in one of those cheap online stores for the SBrick.- 780 replies

SBrick General Discussion
AVCampos replied to Nofer89's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
At least I don't mind! The project is currently at 70% of its time, at 90% of its target budget. I believe it's going to make it, it's just a pity that the stretch goal of £100000 for the stair-top design looks unlikely to be reached...- 780 replies

In the vein of HawkMech, here's another MOC built using parts from 31008 Thunder Wings. I wanted to build a Stegosaurus-like dinosaur, but the parts wouldn't allow it, so I invented one, with a single row of dorsal plates and one pair of spikes in the thagomizer. As the plates are so tall and in a single row, it also reminded me of a Dimetrodon, hence this MOC's name being a mixture of the two. The biggest challenge I faced was the tail: how to make something thin, centred, and able to oscillate side-to-side (for defence against predators), using this limited selection of parts? I managed it with some SNOT, and even so it ended up looking a little weird. "I'm evolving, I'll be a biped!" "When you gotta go, you gotta go!" "Won't somebody pet my belly?"

Here's something I built to practice "single-set MOCs"... a mech using just the parts from 31008 Thunder Wings. As in my opinion the set has too many main colours (white, black, orange and blue is just BOLOCs), I tried to make orange as hidden as possible, and I kind of think this ended up well... Besides the poseability in the legs and arms, it can also convert into an aerial form, for faster movement. Considerations about this first try: the design ended up good, and I managed to give it quite some articulation using the set's parts. The aerial mode could integrate the terrestrial mode's legs better, and the ball joints are a bit too weak for the "knees".

Cool contest! The parts and time limit mean I should be able to participate. 8272 Snowmobile.

Lego Technic Figures
AVCampos replied to BasOne's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
As much as I'd like techfigs to return (if so, please make them more "modular" so we can mix-and-match them for more variety!), I don't think that'll happen, for two reasons: a techfig is complicated (with lots of assembled parts) and therefore surely eats a significant amount of the budget for the set it's in, and its fixed scale makes producing sets in different price points more difficult (imagine a 42020 and a 42021 at the same scale). That's a good idea! Not necessarily official by TLG, but maybe some kind of "Miniland-scale" figures using them. Too bad they (so far) only exist in grey... -
Thanks all! Actually, the layout began with just AT Loader which I cobbled together from Exo-Force parts and some other stuff. Then I built LR Carrier to have something for AT Loader to, well, load. Then I saw 70500, fell in love with its elegance achieved with few elements, and bought a copy to modify into something to spicen up the M:Tronians' life. the base and the rest of the vehicles came in a "the hell with it, I'll make a full scene" moment. ;) As for M:Cat, when I saw , I couldn't wait to try if that was physically possible.

A Blacktron 2 squad is attacking this outpost belonging to the M:Tron Corporation! The base's crane and AT Loader had begun loading LR Carrier... ... when CRASH! Marauder Mech tears down the gate and points its weapons at the petrified worker, while his colleagues run for their lives! While the jetpack-equipped soldiers jump over the fence, Artillery Mech moves into position to provide support to the attack. [/url] At a distance, Comms Intercept Trike coordinates the attack. Indifferent to all this commotion, M:Cat only thinks about the next space sardines meal... Besides this MOC's "diorama" factor, I tried to give it some "playability": there must always be some Technic in what I do! The three mechs (AT Loader, Marauder Mech and Artillery Mech) are poseable, AT Loader having a mechanism to raise its crane. The base's crane pivots and has mechanisms to raise it to catch magnetic containers. LR Carrier has steering on 4 of its 6 wheels, and the cockpit turns into a ship for emergencies. Comms Intercept Trike has functioning steering from the side "antennae". Finally, here's an aerial panorama of the attack: (note: the photos have this background because they were taken during BRInCKa 2014, my LUG's large event) Comments & Criticisms?
