    I don't consider myself a casual Technic fan (but not expert either), and it also goes over my head.

    It's a bit worrying to know that a funcional part works differently based on orientation. It makes usage in mechanisms that can tilt, such as crane arms, less predictable.

    Well, they recoloured a gazillion parts in keetorange for the McLaren P1. They're actually metallic gold, which is prettier and even more expensive to produce than pearl gold:

    But it has no differential, so only one of the rear wheels is driven.

    Well, one way in which it isn't better is that it doesn't have rubber tyres.

    I'm still convinced that TLG doesn't want to produce parts that are meant to rub against each other to create friction and wear over time. The only exception I can think of is the 24T clutch gear, and even that is meant to rub against itself (that sounded way more wrong than I expected) occasionally.

    To me, the best celebration would be a modernised version of a classic set... but I can't decide which one I'd personally prefer.

    It's still a voluntary, and therefore non-indicative, thing. For example, I only mark a review set as owned after the respective review comes out.

    I noticed that, too. The thing is that nothing prevents you from marking any set, upcoming or not, as "owned".

    You don't have to get sets from the current year to be a LEGO Technic fan: there's plenty of stuff from previous years.

    The real ones use hydraulics. There's no way TLG would use water due to the risk of spillage, much less oil. What's left is pneumatics, which sag over time (especially with a load as heavy as a 1:8 car) and LAs. In face of this, I'd then definitely pick LAs.

    Yes, that definitely looks like it could accommodate one or two less links without straining the chain.

    I wouldn't mind a new Car Transporter instead. 42098 went away many years ago already, and since then we got a deluge of stuff to fill a new one (or a reissue) with.
