  1. Note that the Porsche doesn't have any PF elements, which naturally raise the price-per-part. There's also the eventual licensing fees, though.
  2. Isn't the whole point of this model a reproduction of the 1980 set, mechanical simplicity and all? To this end, I'd add only a differential and perhaps a 3rd gear.
  3. The layout has been expanded a bit... While Gorilla Loader tries to sneak out without beeing seen, M:Defender runs to try help repelling the Blacktron Squad attack. Baryon Flux Generator (some people just call it "BFG" for some reason) has stationed outside the base and is charging its massive weapon to disable any M:Tron Corporation electronics. The Blacktrons made some prisoners, who are embarked on Flytrap Transporter. Scout Buggy has discovered a crystal miner who is noticing nothing... Here are photos of the whole imbroglio!
  4. I'm not sure, but almost certainly you'll hit the current limit built into the battery box before hitting the one on the SBrick. Having said that, I believe you can run at least 2 XLs on one output. I don't think the moderators tolerate that kind of discussion here.
  5. Actually, the bullet does more damage because it concentrates the same energy (which, according to the formula for kinetic energy, is proportional to the mass times the squared speed) in a smaller area. If you attach a spike to the battery box, it will be much more damaging to a given area, but the area damaged will be smaller.
  6. Remember the constraint is for the robot's initial size: after the round begins, it can "unfold" to whatever desired size. I'm sure that would score serious Cool Points with the judges.
  7. This is a great idea for a contest and an opportunity to use some of my rarely-used elements! Also, to be honest, I'm more looking forward to the SBrick prizes than the set prizes. In case you guys and gals need inspiration (or some virtual testing) on which kind of battle robot design to pursue, here's something to practice on: Robot Arena 2. I played this a few years ago and the "Aries 2" I built was almost unbeatable. Let's see if I can built something similar physically with LEGO bricks.
  8. That's not a cylinder engine, that's a subwoofer.
  9. Yes, I have a Sony phone and indeed it has a settings item to connect a PS3 controller. However it didn't work with my non-official one.
  10. Have you tried the official app to see if the problem lies within the controller app or the SBrick itself? I bought a non-official PS3 gamepad for that same purpose, and also wasn't able to connect via Bluetooth, either to the phone, the tablet or the computer; only via USB. It did work via BT on a friend's PS3, so I let him keep it and bought myself a generic gamepad, which does work. So, we can conclude here that PS3 controllers can connect wirelessly only to PS3 consoles.
  11. It's in August that the model's instructions become available. Remember, it was presented along the 2H sets, so it'll become available on 2H.
  12. I agree, but the 41999 does exactly that with its winch. ;)
  13. It's a possibility, but the 8043-style multiplexing only allows 2 functions per motor. If the 42070 used a servo instead of the M motor, it could actuate a 42056-style sequential gearbox to switch between 4 functions per motor.
  14. I suspect the "NewGen" 8860 is an idea born comparatively late in the development of this year's range, as a 40th anniversary isn't as "big" a number as a 10th, 25th, or 50th anniversary. Probably the Technic team only intended to do the commemorative 3L beam, but as they saw fans' expectations, they probably decided to take existing sets from the year's range and build an homage model from their parts. If so, IMHO that was a nice gesture. How do you know the 42070 doesn't work properly?
  15. Oh, I stand corrected, then. But neither has remote control, maybe at least they didn't clone the IR protocol yet?
  16. And it was the Porsche that got mercilessly copycatted by that copycat manufacturer, not the others. Probably it has something to do with PF and pneumatic elements (so far) not having been cloned.
  17. I really hope not! It's bad enough to already have regular blue, dark blue, medium blue and medium azure, not to mention the turquoise from the Competition sets...
  18. For the same reason the Taj Mahal has so many parts despite being not that big: smaller parts.
  19. It most definitely looks like medium azure instead, like last year's dragster and this year's pullback truck. And those headlights using BMW windscreens still look weird!
  20. Given the 42056's introduction of a sequential gearbox, the size of the 42070 would be more than enough to incorporate a servo-controlled version to switch between motorised functions instead of transmission gear ratios. Compared to the 8043, it has the advantage of splitting a motor into 4 functions instead of just 2, at the cost of more complexity.
  21. With the change from 42051 to 42068 the set probably suffered some changes, even if only cosmetic. As for the 42069, it probably brings currently rare parts in new colours.... if that's good or bad, that's up to each person's tastes.
  22. Yes, some of them swivel:
  23. The most logical model would be a modern reinterpretation of one of the first Technic sets but we all know TLG doesn't always do the most logical things.
