MEC Category C: The Road Goes Ever On
-
So I decided to enter the Middle Earth moccing contest on Eurobricks, detailing the works of JRR Tolkien`s Middle Earth. The contest is organised in honor of the very last wave of sets coming out shortly, and I decided to enter Category C, in which you need to depict Bilbo in one his existing (or imagined by you) adventures. The idea for this MoC is that when Bilbo set out from the Shire with the company of Thorin Oakenshield and Gandalf the Grey, he didn`t know anything outside his rural life. During the long walk, Gandalf brought Bilbo up to date on what had come to pass in the world. So we come to this moment in Bilbo`s unexpected journey that they pass some ruins of the men of old, all the while that Gandalf is telling stories of a past of glorious heroes and evil beings... I based my build around the areas and atmosphere we get to see in the movie inbetween Bree and Rivendell, with the trolls and everything. Here we often glimpse old ruins that nature has reclaimed, and fallen statues of mighty warriors that lost their battle with the elements. It isn`t all that doom and gloomy looking per se, but for Bilbo, this is all a world of marvel and adventure... and took the title from the famous Bilbo song from the end of the book, and in sort sung by Gandalf at the beginning of the Lord of the Rings. Roads go ever ever on, Over rock and under tree, By caves where never sun has shone, By streams that never find the sea; Over snow by winter sown, And through the merry flowers of June, Over grass and over stone, And under mountains in the moon. Roads go ever ever on Under cloud and under star, Yet feet that wandering have gone Turn at last to home afar. Eyes that fire and sword have seen And horror in the halls of stone Look at last on meadows green And trees and hills they long have known.

How do we actually proceed when a build is done? Do we put a link here to a freshly started topic? Or do we post the whole build and any fluffy blah blah in one go here?

Amazing, the blue roof makes it really stand out

Some very nifty details on there like that winged section, and the tower is perfectly executed

Love the build overal, and in specific areas like how you incorporated the pastel colours, lovely

That is a fantastic looking vessel, great work

Being the pacifist that I am, and carefull of the position of Mitgardia in `between guilds` relationships, I would go for sending him off to Nocturnus where he gets attacked on first sight. That way, our snowy lands keep their hands clean in all this

Love the tree and a great atmosphere in that build

Love the roofing, nice build

A small vignette I build yesterday, this is actually the dual-purpose sigfig vignette for my Space setting character with the minifigs swapped out, an idea that just struck me when I was making the pictures of the space guy to give it a try. The idea was to have a go at a willowy looking tree, and since I have a LOT of the green and purple small elements still from a PAB trip, I went for the alien colouring / dark swamp style. More info for the space version and the idea behind this build can be found on my little blogpage here.

Hmm, this one I`m going to enter me thinks, especcially catergory 3 :-)

He thanks, thought to do something funny for well, no reason bar feeling like doing it. It broke the day after trying my hands at two more AoM builds, and a SciFi sigfig vignet... that actually seemed to fit into GoH just as well by swapping just the minifig. PS: the 3rd quarter freebuild thngy ain`t up yet, or am I mislooking?

It`s a common saying heard all over Avalonia, Kaliphin and even Nocturnus. Parents telling their children `watch out for the wildlife when you go outside`. But in Midgardia, the wildlife says to each other `Watch out for the kids when you go out!` Like I stated many times, I really like the Chima sets. Not per se for the theme all by itself, but for all those handy MOC elements, cool minifigures that are useable in medieval fantasy, and the amount of ice, fire and tan coloured elements you tend to get together. I liked the Legendary Beast Wolf that came out last year, and as they tend to be not to expensive, showing up at -30% average these days in most stores here, I always wanted to `do something` with the big white wolf. Use it as a mount or something. But during my `moccing time` I had today (knocking together 4 to 5 builds, the last one is a `dual purpose` one actually, but more on that in a later build), my eye cought my Lil` Red Riding Hood collectible minifig... and I just started putting things together... And actually like the result :-)

Reminds me in certain ways of the Orc Forge set, which is very good, because it looks very orcish indeed!

Though I did builds this initially for a new GoH style group on MOCPages I was invited to join as my sigfig there, I think it fits within our setting as well. The Staff of the Fire-Heart Cobra... the ancient perkamentus scrolls told of it`s mystical powers of being able to `breath fire in those where it had been extinguished`. She had learned of it`s tales, the tales that would allow her to raise the rulers and their armies of a time long gone and bend them to her will. Surely, like with all heirlooms, there must be a catch, but she hadn`t found anything about that in the old texts, nor heard any stories. Maybe it was indeed safe to use? Standing on a small dune, Princess Cleobricktra sang the ancient incantations of awakening. The gem on the staff started to flare up, and she felt mystical powers course through her body. Pointy her hand at the sands, a blue strike of energy shot out, and the sands started burning with an occult, blueish fire. Nothing seemed to happen at first, but then amidst the flames the sands shifted, and slowly a bandaged hand appeared. As the energies kept flaring, she saw how a mummified body appeared and slowly crept out of it`s old sandy restingplace... Like Guilds of Historica on Eurobricks and Eras of War on MOCPages, Chronicles of Old is the second `roleplay build game` I have been invited to join over on MOCPages. There are five `lands` in this setting, Tolmost, which is a mainly human `medieval` faction, Algeirim which consists of the more barbarian style of fierce warriors, Folbiorn, a green island with men and dwarves as it`s main population, Whintham, a magician led land of dark things, and the faction I choose, Oain-Dul, the desert lands. The choice for this is partly due to my choice for Mitgardia in Guilds of Historica. There I was torn between choosing either the icy lands of my guild, or the sandy lands of Kaliphlim, finally settling on the former. But now I had the chance to get building with my tan bricks and suitable minifigs. Now I plan to build the faction for my entries with a twist, settling more on a `The Mummy` style of land (I have all those Pharoah`s Quest bricks and figs after all), so I`m planning on going by a mixture of undead and the living gathered together towards the goals of Oain-Dul. Whatever those might become, because as in EoW the group is still young and starting out exploring it`s angles. But of course, the first thing one needs is a sigfig for the game, so in the end I picked the Egyptian Queen from the Collectible Minifigures series (Cleopatra for the friends) to lead my region of the land. I wanted to have her at the start of her newly discovered route, recently having come in possession of a mythical relic and now using her newfound powers to literally raise herself an army. Now to the drawing board to get inspiration I have conferred to actual builds... all CnC is welcome!

To `celebrate` my return to the pitch after nearly a decennia of hiatus, I went out and build a small Korfball pitch to celebrate this. The antagonists? In the yellow jerseys and black pants, Kwik KC, the team I played for for actually almost all my `career`. In the red jerseys with the green pants? Spartacus, where my Nemesis`s GF plays.

A really fantastic build, the street life details are great! I love the map vendor
