  1. Previously: Jack hatches a plan With Jack's plan finalized, he and Kate passed the word to other prisoners. The Lotii guards had become complacent watching over their Halosian prisoners for so long, and the number used to guard them and their diligence in their duty had waned. When an opportunity finally presented itself, the prisoners overwhelmed their guards, secured the keys to release their incarcerated brethren, and acquired whatever makeshift weapons they could. Some were able to get their hands on swords and knives, but others had to settle for pick axes and hand axes from their work site, and even a meat cleaver from a Lotii cook. Once free of their shackles and armed, the prisoners made their way through the jungle toward the harbor. Jack and Kate had assembled a group of enough able-bodied seamen to commandeer at least five ships, and there were no guards to speak of around them. Jack had his eye on a man-o-war, and there were several brigantines or similar ships docked adjacent to it. And the ships didn’t appear to have been stripped of essential materiel. Could he be so lucky? --- I would have liked to have time to MOC the overpowering of the guards, but real life interceded. This build at least gave me a chance to experiment with some different foliage than my usual builds. And this serves as a sistership build, replacing the Wolf (and subsequent sisterships Wolf II and Fenris Ranger) with its newest sistership El Lobo. All C&C welcome.
  2. Since July of 620, Jack and Kate have been the prisoners of the Lotii on the island of El Oleonda, initially forced to work in a textile mill in Oryant. They briefly escaped in April of 621 and stole a small junk, but were quickly recaptured. Since then they have been put to hard labor in Luyang. But nearly 20 months of captivity have not dimmed Jack’s hopes. “I swear they gave us this view of the harbour to torture us,” lamented Jack. “I don’t think they’ve giv’n us that much thought, Luv,” replied Kate. Jack was strangely silent in response. Something had caught his eye. “What is it, luv?” queried Kate. “I can see the Nightwing!” “Our ship? Maybe they are trying to torture us!” exclaimed Kate. “Yes, our Nightwing. They’ve captured a fair number of Halosian ships. We know that from all our fellow prisoners.” The wheels were turning in Jack’s head. “And they don’t appear to have merged many of the Halosian ships with their own patrols. They must not like working with what they consider to be strange rigging. But I can see several brigs, and even a man-o-war down there, that they never sail out.” “What of it?” sighed Kate. “We have the men to sail them!” declared Jack. “If we can pass the word among the prisoners and effect an escape, instead of trying to sail away on a small junk, we could sail out of here with a war fleet under our command. We’d have more than a fighting chance to get out of here for good!” Kate perked up. “Just get me a blade and I’ll cut us a path through the guards to those ships.” The wheels in Jack's head continued to turn. “Hmmm, yes dear, I’m working on that…” To be continued. --- Making another attempt this MRCA to get Jack and Kate out of captivity, and using this as the required build to sistership the Nightwing. All C&C welcome.
  3. Willem Guilder was entranced by his surroundings when he was startled by the knock at the door. After another knock, he came to his senses and loudly said “Come in!” The courier entered the parlor of the Governor’s mansion and immediately wondered if he had accidentally gone to the greenhouse. “Wow, tulips!” he remarked. “Yes, yes,” Guilder replied, happy that the courier knew what the flowers were. “They’re the latest rage. We’ve discovered fascinating plants and fruit and such from all over the Brick Seas – bananas, pineapples, pumpkins – but these tulips seem the most remarkable, and they’re from Pontelli!” “Yessir, my missus has been all over me to get her some.” “Well, please, take some. You must keep the little lady happy. Which do you fancy?” “They’re all lovely. She’d be happy with any of them.” “I’m partial to the Norwegian Blue, myself,” remarked Guilder. “Er, that’s Royal Blue, sir,” replied the courier. “The Norwegian Blue is a parrot.” “Ah, yes, quite right,” replied Guilder, “but they’re still my favorite.” “Where did you get all these?” “My brother Thomas acquired these for me. He’s quite the insider on the tulip trade. I must seek his advice, as I think the MCTC needs to take advantage of this booming market.” “Yes, indeed,” agreed the courier. After a pause, the courier asked, “Why did you send for me, sir?” “Oh, yes,” said Guilder, again breaking his tulip trance. “Take these orders down to the shipyard. We must get the Oscuridad’s sister ship out of dry dock.” “Very good, sir. And thank you for the tulips.” Guilder’s reply did not come, his attention returned to the tulips. ------ A small vig to sistership the Oscuridad III, and to get in on the tulip craze. All C&C welcome.
  4. Today Retired Admiral Girard Beauchamp and Master Shipwright Jean Benoit walked through the ship and have deemed her fit for launch. Of course, this particular ship has had the Retired Admiral's special attention since the announcement that his eldest son, Hector Beauchamp would be promoted into command of the Belle. In response to the to the sinking of the Pride of Oleon off the cost of Terraversa last month, the Empire has asked the Beauchamp Shipyard to rush through the final stages of construction on her Sistership the Belle of Breshaun. Crew, Cannon, Stores, and a brave and proven Commander in the form of Hector are all on hand and initial loading began weeks ago in the completed sections of the craft. She will be combat ready on the morrow and a full compliment to His Majesty's Navy in a matter of days. Build from the design of the Pride of Oleon, this 7CL Ship of the Line has "exactly" the same capabilities as the old Pride of Olean boasted. Fair winds and Following Seas to the good crew.
  5. After La Reya Venenosa II was sunk in an intense battle at sea against those nasty pirates, only two ships returned to port. However as the Eslandian efforts to fight for free trade across all the Brick Seas had once more come to fruition, the local authorities at Salida Este, on behalf of the Colonial Council, decided to immediately build a sistership of the sunk man'o'war, Lay Reya Venenosa III. Lumberjacks went into the woods a bit landinwards and did their best to find strong trees, while ropemakers and sewers were already doing their best in town. The Eslandolan fleet would soon be able to welcome La Reya Venenosa III, and continue to fight for freedom. La Reya Venenosa III will be licensed by Eslandola. I did some experimentation with tree design, to create volume. While I am really happy with the treetops and the scene overall, I am not so happy with the treetrunks... But well, those will be better next time.
  6. After the Long Beard III sank in a storm last month, the shipyard got to work to ready her sistership. The first mate checks in with the gun crews to make sure everything is ready to sail. Just a quick build for sistershipping, but that Roman numeral is getting big, as we're up to the Long Beard IV now!
  7. It had been more than two years since Willem Guilder thought about the ship Wolf. But after all this time he had decided to sistership it again. But if this time was going to turn out different, he was going to need to do something drastic. And so he found a gypsy's shop in Fuerte Unido. "Welcome to Madam Luna's," said the gypsy. "How may I help you?" "I'm told you remove curses," replied Guilder. "This can be done. I will need to hear about the curse. But first you must pay." Guilder pulled out a 40DB piece and handed it to her. "Excellent," exclaimed Madam Luna. "Now, sit down and tell me about the curse." "Thank you." Guilder sat down on the oddly upholstered stool and began the story. "Over three years ago I bought a ship at auction, the Wolf. It was a Mardierian privateer that had been captured. I had it refitted and put it to use the next month. Alas, it promptly sunk!" "Oh my, that is bad! But what can I do about a ship that has already sunk?" "That is only the beginning of the story. I decided to build a ship to the same plans as the ship that had sunk, and I named her Wolf II. That ship was subsequently captured by the Sea Rats. I endeavored to reacquire her, but before I could, another pirate had taken her from the Sea Rats. "That is unfortunate," noted Madam Luna. "But that's not all," continued Guilder. "The pirate sold her at auction, but I was outbid by a buyer from Oleon. Soon after, it was damaged in a storm, and a Corrish ship salvaged her and took her to port. There was some confusion as to her rightful owner for a bit, but eventually she was returned to Oleon." "My, it does seem that this ship has trouble staying with its owner!" exclaimed Madam Luna. But it is no longer your ship? What would you have me do?" "I have decided to build another ship to the original plans," explained Guilder, "but I don't want this new ship to suffer the same fate as its predecessors. Can you remove the curse that follows this ship plan so that my new sistership will not be cursed?" "Let me consult my mystic crystal," she said as she retrieved a crystal ball and placed it on the table. "I shall look into the past and the future ... hmm ... yes, there is much energy swirling about this ship. But you can avoid the curse!" "How?" "You must evoke the name Wolf in the name of the new ship WITHOUT actually using the word "wolf" in the name. This will break the curse." "Oh, thank you Madam Luna. This is excellent news. Thank you! I shall use a name from one of the ancient myths." And so Guilder left the gypsy's shop, satisfied that he could go ahead and commission his new ship, the Fenris Ranger. ------------------------------ A small build for the purpose of sistershipping the Wolf as the Fenris Ranger. Here's a view of the full build: All C&C welcome.
  8. Guilder waited outside one of his favorite taverns in Fuerte Unido, waiting for the arrival of the captain for his new ship. The barmaid asked him if he wanted anything, but he declined. He had business on his mind and was not in a drinking mood. Then he noticed his captain walking down the street toward him. "Ah, Captain Pellegrino! I'm glad you could make it," exclaimed Guilder. "But of course!" replied the captain. "You sent word that you have a new ship. Please tell me all about it." "You may recall the Aqua Fina, which won its class at the inaugural Pilots' Association Racing Cup in Alexport last year. Apparently it was appropriated by the pirate Bluebeard shortly after the contest. But now it has been sunk, and I have built a ship to the same plans. This sistership, La Sirena, is a class 3 vessel, armed and maneuverable. I leave it to you to assemble her crew. Be ready to sail this month." "I will get right on it, sir." "And I will send you your sailing orders shortly." ---------------------------------------- Just a quick build to sistership the Aqua Fina, briefly introduce a new character I hope to use in future stories, and have more fun with printed panels. All C&C welcome.
  9. Guilder walked through the warehouse district. He had a lot on his mind this month; as Eslandola's Secretary of Trade, he was worried about how to protect its trade ships from piracy. Captain Argentum would lead the fleet to sea aboard the Lady Cora ... if it was ready in time. Just then an MCTC courier caught up with him in the street, "Hey, watch where yer goin'!" shouted one of the cargo handlers at the courier. "Sorry, sorry! Very sorry!" he replied. Then he turned to Guilder. "Sir, we've received that report you were waiting for: the Lady is ready to sail." "Ah, I knew Captain Argentum would have Lady Cora ready in time," replied Guilder. "Thank Sol and Luna!" The courier seemed puzzled. "Lady Cora? No sir, I have word about the Cotton Lady II. The sistership for that old cog we lost a few months back is finally ready." You see, Willem Guilder was also director of the Merchants Colonial Trading Company. There was work to be done for the trade company as well. --- A quick build to sistership the Cotton Lady. A couple of extra pics of the build: Seemed like a good excuse to use some of those printed wall panels. All C&C welcome. .
  10. The new frigate's deck was as clean as it would ever be, and the crew went about their business getting the vessel ready for service in anticipation of the new captain's arrival. "Welcome aboard, captain!" There was no formal line-up of the crew, as time was of the essence in preparing La Raya Venenosa II to sail. "Mmpph..." replied the captain, and he immediately headed to his cabin. The lieutenant wasn't sure what to make of this. He hoped it meant the captain had things on his mind for their upcoming mission. --- Sorry I'm light on story. Just a quick build for sistershiping La Raya Venenosa. All C&C welcome.
  11. The captain walked the gun deck, checking on the progress of the crew. Cannons were still be lowered from the weather deck and positioned. "Make sure all carriages are properly secured," he reminded them. "And properly equipped! Shells and water buckets should be in place." The deck bustled with activity as the cramped confines of the ship-of-the-line's gun deck filled. La Comete III, sistership to La Comete, and Deuxieme Comete after that, would be ready to sail this month. --- A small build for the purpose of sistershipping La Comete again. Here's a look at the full build: All C&C welcome.
  12. Lavalette, the young postman woke at the early hours as usual, when other inhabitants of the city were still sleeping. He took a simple meal composed of plain bread and coffee, put his uniform on and shut the door behind him. But today, he looked in a hurry, because in his parcel there was an urgent letter to the RNTC office, stating that a sistership is ready to sail to replace the Licorne they lost a few months ago. This post is intended to sistership the Licorne of RNTC.
  13. The messenger, having delivered the orders from the Eslandolan Admiralty to Captain Florissone, headed back to the Salida Este harbor when he came upon a couple of sailors outside a small bungalow. Apparently local sailors used it as a flophouse to stay at when they were between voyages at sea. “Hey, kid!” called out one of them, “any news you can share with us?” “Captain Florissone just got assigned to the new warship.” “That does us no good,” muttered the sailor. “We’re not interested in a navy ship…” “…and they’re probably not interested in a couple of slackers like us, either!” added the other sailor. “What we need is to find us a good merchant ship that can make some coin.” “Well,” said the kid “they’re also bringing the Lady’s Revenge II out of drydock. I heard them saying somethin’ about needing to replace the Lady of Madrice.” “Now there ya go! They’ll be hiring crew for sure. Come on, it’s down to the docks for us!” --- A sistershipping build. Thanks to @Maxim I for the story lead-in. All C&C welcome.
  14. Commodore Dekker felt a wave of relief. The admiralty had seen fit to keep him in command of the trade squadron even after he had lost three ships, including his flagship, to a Sea Rat attack. But he was still anxious, as he had yet to see his new flagship. Arriving at the docks, he consulted with the naval agent. All was well. The Thunderer, sistership to the Stormbringer, had been readied for active service and was maneuvering in the harbor as the crew tested her running rigging. He need only fetch a longboat to go out and take command. Just a microbuild ship for the purpose of bringing the sistership online.
  15. Willem Guilder took his evening stroll through the garden. Here he could almost imagine he was back in Weelond, but for some reason he was still in King's Harbour. However, his ship was on its way, and his extended stay on the Corrish island was nearing an end. Just then one of his aides caught up to him. "Here you are, Gov'ner. I was lookin' all over for you. I was told you needed me, but they failed to mention where you was." "Well, you've found me, so all is well." Guilder let the man catch his breath for a moment, then continued. "Please see to it that these orders are delivered to the Secretary of the Navy. We need to commission the sistership of the Long Beard into service." "Aye, sir," replied the aide. "I heard about her. 'Twas a shame the Long Beard went down, but I hear she gave Zublius Von Wreck what fer, taking the pirate's ship from her. Better than a fair exchange if you ask me." "Indeed, the men made good with the capture of Hades' Hangman. The crew of the Long Beard have had quite the summer. But there is no rest for them, as the Long Beard II awaits." --- Just a quick build for the sistershipping requirements, and it gave me a chance to play around with a brick-paved walkway. The sand green tiles may seem like an odd choice, but I think they work well. All C&C welcome.
  16. Somehow, Eslandola's Willem Guilder had still not departed King's Harbour after travelling there for the Great Ball, and was becoming quite adept at conducting business while travelling. Last month he spent much time with his predecessor as Admius Legistrad of the Colonial Council, Román Fontonajo. Today finds Guilder sending off another set of dispatches. "See to it that this gets to the master of our shipyard. The MCTC is commissioning a sistership of the Piece of Eight," Guilder told his courier. "Yessir," the courier replied. "And might I say, sir, the Piece of Eight was a fine ship. One of the fastest on the seas. A sistership to her will be a fine addition to the MCTC fleet." "My thoughts exactly, Eduard. Now, off with you!" And the courier hurried away, dispatch in hand. --- Just a little build for the sistershipping requirement, and a chance to use my copy of the hall for the Great Ball that I never used at the time.
  17. Anthony Crol had received a dispatch from Willem Guilder, Director of the MCTC. He was to file the necessary paperwork to commission a sistership of the Lady of Madrice, which had been lost in a storm last month. Now captain of the Far Horizon, Tony had been first mate on the Lady of Madrice two years ago. The old sloop had a long record of service in the MCTC, and she was well past her prime. It seemed like everyone in the MCTC had been a part of her crew at some time or another, and all knew her affectionately as the Wench. When Tony entered the office, he was greeted by a gloomy old man with an ill-fitting wig. "State yer bizness" the man behind the desk said gloomily. "I'm here to file notice of the commissioning of the Lady of Madrice II." The old man perked up a bit. "Sistershipping the ol' Wench? Why in the names of Sol and Luna would anybody do that?" "Hey, she was a fine ship!" replied Tony defensively. "She was past her prime, but she had good lines and handled beautifully." "Harumph! Past her prime indeed!" Tony was clearly agitated. "Enough with the comments, old man. Scribble down the particulars in your records and I'll be on my way." --- Just a quick build as required for the sistershiping of the Lady of Madrice. I hadn't noticed I didn't get the hairpiece fully down on the clerk's head until I was editing the photo, so I figured I'd just write it into the story.
  18. "How's the work going on that old galleon? Have 'er ready yet?" "See for yourself. She's out of dry dock, just loading equipment and getting her ready to sail." "Why are they bringing her back into service anyway?" "Ah, the MCTC lost the Prince Fernando two months ago. You know, when we had all those bad storms. This ol' mistress of the sea is from the same class, so they're refitting her to replace it." ------ Just a small build to sistership the Prince Fernando.
  19. With the loss of an entire squadron, the Oleander colonial has received a terrible shock. Lagaufre, just landed in Eltina, jumped on another ship to travel to Granoleon. After a long and boring voyage, he reached his destination and presented himself at the door of Oleander Admiralty. Unfortunately, he wasn't allowed to get inside, visits forbidden without appointment. Our Lagaufre is not someone who give up so easily, he put his luggage aside and wait for monsieur de Beauregard. Many hours later... - Oh, my dear, a beggar. - No, mon chéri, he must be one of these captains who have lost their ships. - Poor guy, he must be broke. Take this, a doubloon. - Thank you, my good lady. - Hey, YOU! The officer over there, give my your letter, I'll hand on it to monsieur de Beauregard, you are a real embarrassment! His perseverance was rewarding, de Beauregard agreed to allocate 2 new ships to the colonial fleet, and assigned an officer to accompany him to the shipyards. - Romain! My friend! - Gaufre, old bloke, I thought you were retired. - Not yet, are you accompany me to the shipyards? - Better than that, I'll go with you to New Terra, time to stretch my legs.
  20. Captain Cornelius Reyngout was relieved to get a second chance. Released from Bloody Bill’s capture when the Corries paid Bloody Bill’s price for the Heart of Eslandia, Capt Reyngout feared the MCTC would blame him for the loss of the ship. But the lack of proper escort was deemed the problem, and Capt. Reyngout’s reputation was intact. With the activation of the Heart of Eslandia’s sister ship, the Prince Fernando, Capt. Reyngout was once again in command of an elegant, large trader. The Prince Fernando, built back in the youth of the Eslandola king, honors him with a royal crest on the main foresail and a princely figurehead on the bow. And with normal canvas sails that are not blood-red like on the HoE, the ship looks less Corrie-ish than its now Corrie sister ship.
