To download the building instructions and watch the pictures, please visit my website: http://pv-productions.com/lego-gbc-8/ Bron: Geek.com This is not GBC builder Philip Verbeek’s first outing with the concept — he’s on his 8th GBC build. Some of the past ones have included ball launchers, ramps, elevators, grabbing claws, and more. This time Verbeek has gone for a very ambitious build consisting of elevators, moving ramps, and a crazy undulating bridge. He’s also incorporated Lego NXT that allows him to track data about system performance and control the whole thing with an Android app. This new GBC consists of about 2,000 pieces, which is fewer than some previous builds. The contraption is powered by 2 XL Legomotors — one for all the modules, and one for the airpump. The mechanical energy from the motor is transmitted to most of the modules via gears or a network of strings woven through the blocks. Possibly the coolest aspect of this GBC is the Sinusoid ramp at the beginning. Watching it undulate while suspended by a network of strings its kind of mind boggling. It must have taken a good long time to get it timed correctly. Verbeek has also been kind enough to give us a walkthrough of the design. You can follow along with the gallery above to see each module up close. Stop-go mechanism 1: Stops balls and let them go by at the right time. Sinusoid: Moves the balls by making a sinusoid motion. Stop-go mechanism 2: Stops balls and let them go by at the right time. Elevator: Lifts the balls to a higher level. Every time 3 balls can fit in the cabin. Bridge: Leads the balls of yellow tower to the blue tower. When the elevator is down the bridge will go up and when the elevator is up the bridge is down. Stop-go mechanism 3: Stops balls and let them go by at the right time. Vertical pushers: Pushes the balls in a vertical way up. Color sensor: takes measurements of the balls. Ball pump: Pumps every time one ball. A new ball takes a place beneath another ball and then pushes them up. Android app: Controls the LEGO GBC. If you think you have the time and patience to assemble your own GBC with near-clockwork precision, Verbeek has made the plans available to download.   3. Hello! This is my new GBC module,named See-Saw. It uses one M motor to move the swing (using a crank). The ball input has 2 barriers which are opposed to each other (when one is up,the other is down),so only 2 balls can enter the swing at once. That's it,I think that seeing a GBC module is more fun than reading about it,so here's the video - Thanks for watching!

    Hi everyone, Of all the things made with Lego, my favorites are inevitably the Great Ball Contraptions. GBCs, as they are known for short, are Rube Goldberg-style machines designed with the sole purpose of moving tiny balls through a circuit. The GBC is an elegant ballet of Lego, and the ultimate contruction feat of these balls as well as their robotic NXT counterparts. The mechanisms that move the balls through the loop are generally as complex as possible, using clever actions that are reminiscent of the workings of a factory right out of How It’s Made. I think, the Great Ball Contraption is just about the greatest feat of Lego engineering that there is. So I mostly make LEGO GBCs with in particular GBC-plans with more modules mixed in one big great ball contraption. I only publish the final videos on youtube.   9. Hi! I made a new GBC module. This one wasn't aimed to be complex or very clever - It was aimed to be simple and easy to operate. I built it because many people on youtube asked me for a simple,not motorized GBC module,and only uses common Lego pieces. It's very fun to operate as you only need to press a button and the ball elevates,unlike previous marble pumps which were hard to operate by hand. I think that the video & description provide enough info...so...here's the video (there is also a LDD file in the description)

I had this idea of making a ball counter for a long time,however,I don't own an NXT and neither have enough pieces (and the knowledge) to build a mechanical one (like Nico71's) So after some work I came out with this - I've built an app for my Nexus 4,which uses the phone's built in proximity sensor to detect proximity change. The app then adds one to the ball counter,and waits 700ms before measuring again (because of the lever sometimes jumping a little after it moves) The first prototype was a rail going in front of the proximity sensor,so every time a ball crosses it will block it. This,however,wasn't reliable at all because of the sensor's low refresh rate. So I built what you see in the video - now,a ball goes up in a threads lift,moving a lever which then blocks the proximity sensor. It's 100% accurate. Here's the video,thanks for watching!

It has 4 modules: Accelerator,Mini Ferris Wheel, Up & Scissors lift It required all the pieces I have (and some improvising,like the long axle used in the Accelerator module because its motor's cable didn't make it to the battery) Anyway...Here's the video: Thanks for watching

It was rather simple to build, but the turning mechanism took me awhile to figure out.Here is a short video I made: I am almost finished with my GBC layout, so be looking for a post about it soon!   13. My very own GBC module It uses a single M Motor to elevate (and lower) the platform. There is a small 'gate' on the platform blocking the balls from falling until the platform reaches its highest point. There is another gate on the ball input to make sure the balls dont fall to the ground,only to the platform. The platform can carry about 5 balls at once. Here is the video Thanks for watching

  15. Hello I made a new GBC Module. Its a pretty simple one which will be used to bridge between the end of my GBC loop and the beginning ,with low part count. The runway in this video is only temporary in order to demonstrate the module. Thanks for watching.
  16. Hello :) After a lot of time I didn't have time to build,Iv'e finally found the time to build some GBC. So I built this module..named it clicker (because when the balls switch between levers there is a click. cant be heard in the video,tough) There are 2 issues with this module: 1) it cant take more than 2 balls at once at the queue so I need to build a seperator for it. 2) This module took 90% of the liftarms I have,because I don't have any other technic set rather than my 8043. I think the video explains the rest. Thanks for watching. (Sorry for the shaky camera)
