  1. Henry Moose Personal Log: Today I got my first flight in one of the newest MANTIS toys; the Hornet Class Gunship. If I'm honest my first impressions were that it looks to be more gun than ship.... The two giant particle cannons aren't exactly subtle, I doubt that if I come across any Octan or Kawashita vessels I could convince them my intentions were peaceful. Though maybe when your staring down both barrels you can be convinced of anything... The cockpit is hardly spacious, and the field of view isn't great, but at least the radiators on the particle cannon shield my eyes from the glare when firing. And despite the lack of subtlety she looks very sleek. The technicians assure me that whilst the drive looks like a re-purposed trash can, it is in fact a precision engineered pulse-fusion thrust chamber... and it just so happens that the most efficient geometry is identical to that of a universal standard waste disposal cylinder. She flies reasonably well, though is far better suited to space than atmo... And I'm all for efficiency and smart design, but really, using the nose landing gear as the targeting array....? Still, this is much cooler than the survey ships I would have been flying for Octan and it's only two days until my first larvae Friday. I can't help but be a little worried about what they are expecting me to have to go out and fight with this thing though.... EDIT: resized pics and added an extra shot.
  2. Voice Log of Mister S: "Kara and I finally made it to the closest hangar bay on the Kameko. Due to the location of my garage in the Research and Development section of the ship, the closest hangar was also research and development. Fortunately there was a small two person fighter in the bay and Kara and I quickly hopped in it. I asked her if she knew how to fly it. She said that she didn't and that she thought that driving was my department. I started to explain the difference between driving and piloting but realized we didn't have the time. I experimented with the controls until the voice activated interface spoke up welcoming us to "The Ambassador". It only took a few sentences to have the fighter powered up and exiting the Kameko."
  3. Mission Log: Entry 10 ~ My mission on Crentium ended in a total disaster. I spent the entire day hunting for that alien, but it was nowhere to be seen. At long last, I gave up and returned to my shuttle. To my horror, I found that the alien had also found the shuttle and had somehow figured out how to work the controls. Before I could do anything, it had taken off with my only escape route off Crentium, and two files filled with important Kawashita military secrets! I was crestfallen. It was the first time I had failed a mission and now I was utterly stranded. Luckily, a transport arrived to pick me up. On board, however, I was faced with the wrath of Narbilu and the branch executives. He informed me that if the other corporations got hold of the secrets on the files, the consequences would be disastrous. He gave me a simple task: find the alien and retrieve the files, or lose all status and rank as a KG board member. I was shocked. I promised resolutely to complete this task, but there was a problem. I had no shuttle any more. However, Narbilu showed me to a private hangar where reserve ships were kept. He told me that I would be assigned to a brand-new Kawashita Y-Class Mk.VI shuttle! I had piloted a Mk.II shuttle before, so the controls were easy to manage. The shuttle had sophisticated tracking devices which quickly locked on to the stolen shuttle's location, and powerful repulsor beams on its rear. At last, I was ready to find the thief and reclaim my honour! [ C&C Welcome! ]
  4. :: Kawashita HaR :: :: Hit and Run :: Together with the masters of warfare, I (Narbilu) developed a small manoeuvrable vessel, which carries a single Peacemaker rocket. The Peacemaker can, on impact, destroy a whole command centre or large warship. The Hit and Run (HaR) is just that. Hit your target and get out of the fight as soon as possible. The small rattling gun on the side can keep your adversaries at distance, but won’t save you in massive battle. The Gate Drive can get you out of harms way as quick as you entered the scene. All for Honor & Glory.
  5. After leaving the Healing House of Susanna, the brothers Alfrich and Gavin headed to the coastline of Avalonia. With their trusty pig and but a few belongings they made it to the town of Khandar, where Kha and his crew were helping to fight the plague. Kha had been sailing up and down the coast for most of the week keeping the shipping lanes clear and boats from making harbor where the plague may spread. Alfric and Gavin were desperate to make it to the city of Calder where the family has some extended relatives. Kha accepted their offer to work as deck hands in the hopes of making it south to the city of Calder later in the week. As the ship sailed around the corner of the bay, a member of the crew spotted a mysterious dark boat coming towards the city. Kha knew of the rumors of the 'black winged' ships spotted off the coast of Avalonia just before the plague broke out, and was determined to stop the ship from spreading further mayhem. As the boats approached each other, it became clear that the ship was not stopping, but seemed to be listing lazily through the waters. An oarsmen exclaimed in horror that the entire crew appeared to have died. It was then that they noticed movement on the deck.... So, here is the build for Category C for this Challenge. I was extremely over ambitious in how much time I had for this build and ran out this week! I ended up adding more foliage and less of the town than what I originally wanted, just to make sure that I could field an entry. Not super happy, but here it is. I would like to give some recognition to Zcerberus and Michael Rutherford for the inspiration on alot of this. 6. The desperate citizens of Brevis were prepared to try anything to rid themselves of the terrible plague. So when a half-mad bard from Kaliphlin offered his services, they were ready to give it a try. Against all conventional wisdom, he said the town rats were the villain. "But never ye mind laddies, they love mah sweet music so much they will follow me anywhere" claimed the bard. And when he started to play those pipes, the rats did get up and run. But it seemed the were running away from his music, not towards it... Anyway, there was no more cases of the plague reported in Brevis after that. 7. Hello All, Here is my entry to GoH Challenge 2: Category A - Team Simon. Unfortunately, due to the contest ending tonight, I have not finished the story yet, but am working on it. I will probably edit it tomorrow with the full story, but meanwhile here is a quick summary: Feren and his men were traveling to help his friend Simon get rid of the Drow from his lands. During one of their rest stops, Feren sent out his elite Rangers to scout ahead. When one of them didn't return, he and his lead archer/friend went out to search for him, knowing the general direction the missing Ranger took. Due to Feren's inhuman hearing ability, he heard whispering, and following it found this supposedly ruined castle, that was almost rebuilt. He and his friend sneaked up to the wall (Feren started climbing up), and heard the Ranger betraying their company to the Drow, and where they will be in a week. That is what this build is about, I was going to continue the story in my 2 other entries, but (due to the time limit again, and life) I was unable to build them. So here is the summary of what was going to happen. Build 2 Category B: When the Ranger came back, they grabbed him, put him in chains, and brought him to Feren. However, he explained that he was actually leading the Drow into a trap. He told the Drow Leader the fastest way to intercept Feren's company, which happened to lead the Drow's army through a narrow rocky valley between 2 cliffs, the perfect ambush spot. Build 3 Category C: Feren led his men to the cliffs and split them, putting half his men on both sides. They spent the next couple days preparing for this ambush (gathering rocks, traps, etc). When the Drow arrived, the attack would begin (Which is what the MOC would have been about, the full scale attack/ambush). That is the full story summary for what I "was" going to do for this Challenge, but didn't have time to build them all. For the Glory of Avalonia, and Go Team Simon! Thanks for viewing! Soli Deo Gloria! ~Matthew Oh~
  8. This is my Category C entry to Challenge 2. I've been meaning to do a large landscape with lots of tilted plates for a while now. Most of the larger plates are simply resting in place (though they're held there by the stuff around them), the smaller plates by the ruins are all actually attached. As soon as the scouts had reported to Glorfindel that a Black Spire army would be traveling through Skergat Pass, Glorfindel ordered his men to prepare for an ambush. The Mitgardian soldiers were soon concealed along the ridges on both sides of the ravine. Once the Black Spire army was well into the pass, Glorfindel signaled for the attack. Pouring down the sides of the ravine his men had both the advantages of surprise and the higher ground. Without figs: More pictures can be seen here: link C&C welcome
  9. Here is my entry for Category A of the challenge. I thought I'd turn the tables on the tunnel-loving drow a bit by having them be the ones caught sleeping on the surface for a change. Somewhere South of the Mitgardia border, a long-abandoned dwarven mineshaft is suddenly the setting of a tense meeting. An Avalonian scout, one of Lord Simon's, has been called down to the underground in the company of dwarven soldiers and a pair of lantern-wielding prospectors who claim they have something dire to share. "Shhhhhh..." comes a whisper from above them. One of the soldiers has climbed up a makeshift ramp to where cracks in the stone form a natural passage for sound and smell. And what sounds! What smells! Directly above all their heads, drow spider-riders creep through the underbrush. One directs his spider to deface an Avalonian flag that once stood proudly from the squat spire of rock. In their harsh language, they confer about the whereabouts of Avalonian encampments. An ambush is being planned. The dwarves want to deliver an ambush of their own. The scout argues with them. Let the drow think they have the element of surprise, he says. He'll head back to the nearest encampment and raise the alarm. The dwarves are reluctant, relishing an opportunity to strike back against their most hated enemy. But the scout is persuasive and the dwarves agree to let this one go... for now. The complete build. I built is so that the rock outcropping is removable, as is the top layer of grass and foliage where two of the drow are positioned: In the bottom right corner you can see structural supports built of wood by the dwarves. The bottom left is a cutaway for visibility. Thanks for taking a look, C&C always welcome. Especially on the rockwork as it is only my second attempt at SNOTed rocks/terrain and I still have a long, long way to go. Note: more pictures available on flickr. These may be fun to look at because they show how I constructed the MOC for easy removal of parts.
  10. This is my Category A entry for Team Simon. Credit for the tree design goes to Mark of Falworth. Sir Glorfindel had sent two of his scouts ahead to try and find how far the Black Spire had advanced into Avalonia and the best place for an attack. The scouts were walking through a forest when they heard some noise not far away, the two men quickly swung themselves into the branches of a nearby tree. They were barely out of sight when a Drow and Orc commander stepped into view. The two imposing figures then discussed their attack route on a nearby Avalonian city. The route they chose would take them right through a ravine perfect for an ambush. The scouts listened carefully then told Glorfindel of all they had learned. C&C welcome
