Paris Opera House in Modular Style (64 wide)

Thanks everyone for keeping this post alive. I sure wish some of the blogs would front-page this creation... it would help with getting additional supporters on LEGO Ideas. Any one have any suggestions about how I can encourage the Eurobricks moderators to front page this creation?

    Brick City Depot Buildings

I really enjoy building from BCD instructions. I usually spend about 10 cents per piece for about 1/3 of the pieces requires. Most of the time, I can find about 2/3rd of the pieces required from my inventory. The WWII French Folding House was my first foray into using profesionally designed instructions to construct a building. Since then I have built four oher BCD designs: Canal Street Houses, Amsterdam Hotel, and Consulate, plus all of the BCD Mini-Modulars. If you love the modular series, then BCD is the perfect choice while you are waiting for TLG to produce a new modular set.

    Contemporary Modular

Your MOC has given me ideas about how to create modern buildings by using "clean lines" and accent colors. I'm going to try this oneof these days.

MOC: A couple of vintage scale sporty cars

I love these little cars. I might copy a few of these designs for my LEGO town. I prefer this scale vehicle from the original twon series. The new City cars are too fat for the roads in my LEGO town. I modified the NY taxi to fit a minifig and this scale works really well.

    MOC: Modular Laundry

Brilliant. I love the letters for sure.
  15. I am looking forward to getting a few of these sets. They are perfect for MODs. I struggle to come up with original ideas, so this will certainly help my town.

    MOC: Cruel Life part 3

I wonder what Dickens would have thought about these 'hardtimes'. Perhaps Part 4 might include Fagin and his gang, set for modern times.

Paris Opera House in Modular Style (64 wide)

I just weighted this creation. It came in at 42.4 pounds. Thanks for your comments. Excel is a wonderful tool for plotting out the footprint of any creation. First I convert the cells in to squares... it is not perfectly square, but pretty close. Try column width 2 and row height 15, then you can fill in the cells with different colors to represent the length & width of each piece. Here is a sample of the floorplan for the interior lobby: I also use Excel to plot out my display at Lego shows.

    MOC: Avenue Saint-Jacques

Thanks for your comments Snaillad. This creation is not easy to move, but I do plan to take it to Brickworld 2014 in Chicago. I will likely display it against some other modular building. I started building about the end of July and completed it by the end of September, so I guess it was about two months. I would have finished much quicker, if I had not made so many changes to the roof, side facades. I wish that I could copy the Barries Dept. Store one day. I cant wait to see your photos.

    Modulars with open-back?

I am not really a fan of displaying open-back modulars, but I do really enjoy the access and play-opportunities that they afford. The Avenue Saint-Jacques MOC from 2013 by Snaillad is a grand design that uses the open back method. I purchased the instructions on eBay and I built a version of this MOC. Check out this review of my experience with completing a rear facade to snap into place on this originally open backed MOC: http://www.ogelsbob.com/modular-instructions-review.html ~Ogelsbob (formerly legodt)

    10243 Parisian Restaurant

I love the unique surfacing, 'texturing', and framing of this beautiful creation. The use of feathers and so many Technic pieces, plus some Bionicle fins on the exterior are quite original and they simulate the baroque flourishes that define much of Parisian architecture. I think that Jamie Berard has been inspired by fan designers to create new methods for designing interiors, furnishings, etc. This set seems to be heavily influenced by many of the fan or AFOL designed 'modular buildings' that are being sold on eBay and Bricklink like: Modulars by Kristel, Brick City Depot, Brickbuilderspro, Snaillad, etc. For example, the dumpster, rear vines, the chimney, and the 'snot' flooring on the first floor are all features found in some fan-designed modular buildings. -------- I wish that it was larger so that the dining room would be bigger and that there would be room for a bathroom on the 1st & 2nd levels. I am going to have to figure out a way to expand the footprint of the Parisian Restaurant.

    MOC: Avenue Saint-Jacques

I purchased instructions for this model on eBay and I am about 2/3 finished with re-creating it. I have added a facade with clips on rear that aims to replicate the front of the building and I have added windows to each side for which the original design did not have any windows. This has been a wonderful challenge. I am new to Eurobricks, is it OK to post photos of the finished product , while highlighting the modifications? Has anyone else purchased instructions for this model on eBay? or tried to rebuild it?
