MOC: Santa Fe Super Chief EMD F7 A-B-A (4-Wide)
Pdaitabird replied to CMF-1138's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Great job! You've captured a lot of detail and some difficult shapes in 4-wide. -
Oof...someone at the post office didn't get the memo that "next-day air" usually involves a plane! Thank you!

That's amazing! The wands as belaying pins look really nice whether they hold securely or not, and the zip line handles are a clever idea! I kind of like her without square sails set - it looks like she's tacking upwind. Well done!

Lady F. now has a crew! An assistant would often sail the cutter back into port single-handed after transporting the pilot to a larger vessel. Surprisingly none! Maybe having the initial row of white tiles on the outside helped to stabilize the hull while applying the rest of the tiles. I still held my breath while placing them!

That's a lovely galleon! The base and nameplate designs look good too. -
[OL - FB2] Drydock, Beauchamp Shipyard
Pdaitabird replied to CapOnBOBS's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Another fantastic build! I can tell you put a lot of thought into how the drydock would work. It's nicely detailed and laid out. -

That's a beautiful build - truly worthy of an admiral! -
Wow, this is seriously impressive...even more that it can take standard curves!

Yes they are. I think anything else would have looked too bulky. Bragging rights You should check out the original short stories by G.K. Chesterton - much better than the show! I figured some combination of those and cheese slopes will probably be the best way to smooth the bottom.
-
Thank you - your wish is my command! The bottom is much blockier than I would prefer due to my currently limited selection of dark red parts. I may eventually rebuild the bottom with slopes and tiles for a smoother look.

We have a winner! @caiman0637 Thanks!

That's a really nice tower design and color scheme! The landscaping works well too.

I think @Cousarmy0001 is right - tiling the hull does make a difference. It took practically every black 1x2 and 2x2 tile in my collection, but I like its looks better now. @caiman0637 @evancelt Thanks for the feedback! Thank you! Thank you! That 4263 sounds like a good idea. I don't have one in my collection, but I think I'll keep an eye out for one next time I order parts. I'm also considering ordering some dark red slopes and tiles to smooth out the bottom. Edit: Bonus points for anyone who gets the name reference (without Googling it)!

That's a really nice design! It's more "realistically" scaled to minifigures compared to the typical school bus-sized dragons that shouldn't be able to fly. This one looks more agile. It's very posable too - well done!

Nice work! The 3-axle truck looks like a good improvement!

Nice build - it's good to know that at least part of the canceled set will live on in your layout. Brilliant use of the pith helmet for the gramophone bell!- 14 replies

On a rocky islet in a lake stands the Duke of Gilchester's castle... I've always wanted to build a castle, but I never tried because I don't have nearly enough gray parts. But the itch to build one was still there - so I used red instead, one of the most abundant colors in my collection. I know I can't begin to approach the amazing building techniques of castle builders on this forum, so I decided to keep it in the style of '90s sets and emphasize playability. The roof of the great hall and the upper floors of the keep are removable. Being so small, the interior is necessarily simple. The first floor of the keep contains a table and chair, a fireplace, and a ladder to access the upper levels. The second floor has the duke's quarters - another fireplace, a bed and table with a lamp, and a chamber pot (with a window to dump it onto unwanted guests!) The great hall has the duke's throne. Big thanks to @soccerkid6 and @LittleJohn for the chair design! In the spirit of classic sets, pulling a pin drops lowly peasants who annoy the duke into the dungeon. Finally, here's another overview. If I modify this into a redcoat fort, the smaller island by the pier will house a few cannons. Thanks for looking! Soli Deo Gloria

Thanks! I'm already using a few modern parts, so I might as well add some cheese slope too! Unfortunately I only have a few in brown and gray and none in green. I took @Alexandrina's suggestion and put an elevated step around the inside of the battlements. Now my defenders can step up to shoot and step back to take cover. I also added some light artillery to the defenses, based partly on a design by @evancelt that he shared here. Yes, we're moving Gilchester Keep into the age of gunpowder!

Nice build with lots of details! (At first I misread the title and thought it was Baby Yoda's hut!)
