    Boutique Hotel Mod

Some nice mods there. I am not too bothered about the floor height on the original to be honest, but i did think the sand green curves finishing in open studs a bit odd, as well as there not being some on the semicircular window sides too. I like your addition, but I may settle for just 2x1 tiles or possibly cheese slops. Did you look into covering up the annoying gap at the rear where the angled wall meets the rear one? I’m just reorganising my Lego room right now, but will be doing something to hide this as soon as I can. I think I’ll drop a drainpipe down this hinged gap too, to hide the mixed colours you see.

Nice discount so early in its shelf life. Never see that much here.

    LEGO Trains 2022

I do wonder if LEGO will pause trains at some point in the near future, and then move to a 7 or even 8 wide system. My reasoning is simple. The 6 wide train has been around since Noah’s dog was a puppy, and road vehicles have gone from being 4 wide, through to 6 wide as a norm. The 6 wide train now looks comically small to even a simple delivery van, like the bank van in the current Cargo Train set. Maybe that’s why we’re only really suffering rehashes of old sets, and not anything more innovative.

Looking to build a small model railroad

I wouldn’t drill and nail the plates, but use good quality grab adhesive, like Gorilla Grab, or No More Nails. Make sure your wooden boards are cleaned off, and have at least a little bit of a key, (maybe a low grade sanding) and then use the adhesive and spread on the underside of the baseplate, in a zig zag fashion. Place this board down in the corner of your board, and press down firmly. Scrape any squeezed out adhesive from the edges. Repeat with the second baseplate. It’s important that you then attach the two glued baseplate together with some 10x2 bricks, make sure they have bottom tubes, as this will maintain the right distance between the studs, and keep the studs in line. I would suggest a minimum of 4 stretching across the join, NOT along it. Repeat until all the plates are glued down. Leave in place until the adhesive dries.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Whilst getting another Creator Expert GWP car would be fab, I’ve decided to go ahead and order my BH now, as I’ve a funny feeling they’ll sell out before I get a chance to own one, rather like the situation with the space shuttle earlier in the year.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I seem to remember that the GWP didn’t get released on the first day with another modular a couple of years back. Maybe my memory fails me because I can’t think which one it was.

    Ideas for new City sets

I guess that most people who want a zoo, pick up these jungle and safari sets, and then make their own. Zoos divide opinion, and most zoos now are getting more like safari parks, at least in the uk.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

It’s also true, for almost almost everyone at least, that at the moment, these comments are based on images and other peoples video reviews. Quite often peoples thoughts change once they’ve built it, and had time to move it around their displays. I, for one, applaud TLG and the designer for breaking out of the “square” block. Whilst all Modulars have flaws, it’s refreshing to have another angle in the series.

    UK Sales

Am i the only one this year, who is quite disappointed in the high street store Boxing Day sales for Lego. Argos say they have loads of sets, however, there are almost non available within 70 miles of me. Even my local independent toy shop only had a fiver off of some £35+ sets.

    2021 City Advent Calendar.

I’m braced for backlash on this one…… I think this years advent calendar, and perhaps the last years too, have concentrated too much on the miniature city builds, like the hospital, fire station and car wash!?! And the small scale vehicles too. I used to like the fireplaces, and cookie stalls etc, which now seem the preserve of the friends calendar, which my wife has. These fed into my MOD/MOC box, for expansion of my growing town. Am I alone in this feeling…… ?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I never minded them, if they didn’t compromise the build too much. The Bank and Laundromat i thought worked well, however i thought the cookie tunnel in the detectives office was a bit forced into the building.

    2021 City Advent Calendar.

Thanks for the images. Really helpful to illustrate my thinking, and Yep. I think 2019 wasn’t to bad but 2020 and 2021 have been a lot less inspiring.

Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion

Yeah, We have the yellow stripe. Often also with a wider bit at the back. We don’t tend to have the trailer nor the extending cannon thing, but its good to know that its at least based on something. Just unusual in the UK, and i don’t recall ever seeing one in CH or FR.

Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion

Having lived in a couple of European countries, I can faithfully say that I’ve never seen a fire engine like the one in in 60321. Perhaps just not exactly where I lived? Europe, on the whole, doesn’t have specific School Buses as such. Certainly not all painted yellow with stop signs. In the UK some of our police cars are now silver. In Australia, some fire engines are yellow. I don’t think I’ve seen an articulated fire engine outside of the USA. I think LEGO has to have a blend that doesn’t offend either US or European minds too much. It must be hard, and with each release, the designers must brace themselves for the inevitable criticism when groups within the fan base don’t like things. All I know is that I look at each wave and pick out the couple of sets that I’ll pick up to add to the growing city, i might grab others if discounted later on, but these usually end up being modded somewhat.

So gutted this is 4+ and not a great vehicles version. We seem to miss out on ‘middle sized’ commercial vehicles, and jump straight to yet another articulated transporter of something really big.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Stepping away from the thoughts about the next modular, I know many of us have issues with seemingly random architectural styles across the buildings. It got me to thinking about some of the streets in the cities I grew up in. Since much of the UK was bombed in the Second World War, and without any master plan for rebuilding, I grew up with varying styles all in one street as a norm. Perhaps not to the same extent as the Modulars have, but still, Classical banks would sit next to Art Deco store, across the road from a 1960s brutal slab fronted shop. I guess for many of us across the world, this may not be the case, and the jarring styles wouldn’t resonate.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

It’s always interesting to see the comments on a new modular. Especially when its ‘constructive criticism’. The thing i think we all forget, is that there is probably a target price point for designers to work to, and that may not be the price we see, but an internal one based on the cost of producing the number of each individual part required. When it comes to the more intricate bits which high end moccers will always fix on their own designs, but because of this ‘cost cap’, the designer can’t fix it. I think the cost of the Corner Garage, which surprised quite a few of us, might be explained by this. I’m just guessing here, of course, but I know this is a business model that is used in some industries.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I really like it. The ‘odd’ angle is a clever twist and although there are compromises to make it work on all floors, i think its a really good twist on the standard square 32x32 baseplate. It’s a shame people can’t just appreciate it for what it is. The great thing about lego, is that if you don’t like it, either don’t buy it, or buy it and mod it to suit. I just hope the scalpers don’t beat me to it and the GWP for VIPS.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

IF true, It could be trying to emulate the copper sheet roof style that you do find in some 1920-1930 buildings.

Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion

I think the hospital set has got promise, maybe can be modded to a modular, Whilst i love the double wide doors on the fire station, its design is a bit meh. Mind you, I expect them to be quite expensive as they have the fairly new road plates in them.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I would love to own all the Modulars from start to finish, but only started collecting from the cinema onwards, although they were not purchased in order. My first was detectives offices. I’ve seen and had a good look round the earlier ones and do think they were mostly seen as ‘dust collectors’ originally, but have grown beyond, whilst we still want both good interiors and exteriors whilst not seeing much of a raise in price. I think the interiors have fluctuated quite a bit, and the Bookshop left a little to be desired, whilst I think the Diner, Garage, and Assembly square have pretty good interiors and exteriors to match. Yes the garage was expensive, but to have added the pieces to make it without gaps, and add a more cohesive interior would have pushed it much higher. I can’t wait to see the next one, although whether it will be a 15th anniversary special, we’ll have to wait and see. I hope it is in many ways, but if its a bit larger, and more expensive then my wallet will not thank TLG for it.

Zavvi in the UK have it reduced to £55 I think. Not sure if that’s where you are though.

    LEGO Trains 2022

I think a 3 car DMU/EMU would be good, perhaps with the battery box in the centre car. They’re quite common in the UK on shortish, local routes, and I’d wholeheartedly agree about the doors. Bring them back! I also agree about the one piece noses. They should go, however I can see why we have them. To create a similar shape using other existing bricks would require SNOT techniques and complex building beyond the trains target audience.

    The Cooking Academy (modular)

I don’t think they’d ever green light a true modular building, that fits with all the requirements, however this doesn’t appear to be a full modular building. That being said, its a great looking build and with a bit of finessing on the hinged ends of the walls, i think this could be up there with some chance of gaining the needed 10,000 supporters.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

That’s a fab price. I’ve seen a couple of ‘B’ model builds for this set, and if I had the money, I’d be straight round for a second copy.
