Over the years we have been introduced to many different versions of a police station.

But since lego city took over from world city we have been give 3 very different stations,

The first lego City Police station was released in 2005, It contained a Helicopter, Jail cell And a light up minifgure. What more could you ask for.

The colour scheme was quite bland as they we no bright colours besides the minifigures skin and the occasional yellow bricks here and there.

Then Lego decided to release ANOTHER police station which included the new blue colour scheme.

This one included 2 Garages, 3 veichels, 2 jail cells and alot of rooms inside.

But this station didn't include a landing pad and the helicopter was released seperatly. (where does it land default_oh.gif)

However. as we are now leaving 2010 and heading into 2011, lego ignored many fans (Mainly T/AFOL) who have been begging them NOT to release any more police related sets in the City line. and what did they do. they went ahead and will be released yet another station in 2011. This time it will include a Female officer (First time in a city set), A landing pad (yet not helicopter), A white bicycle and alot of rooms inside (Which we haven't seen in any of the past versions) oh any many new pieces Eg. A crowbar, new torso design and a new Dog. default_blush.gif

So my question is - out of the 3 differnt versions, which is your favourite ?

I'm not really a fan of any of them. They're all a little too colorful and busy. Maybe we'll get a modular version someday.

yes a city version would be a lot better.... like a Emporium sized cop "Station" like in Rochester NY(my home City)

The past three lego cop sets have no real look to them... yes playability, but if you go out and buy one of those "Play sets like from playschool or other "some assembly required toy companies...You then give it to your child, they play with it for like 10 minutes and walk away never to play with it again.... So should playability be incorporated into a Lego city set (keep in mind it has no look to real city layout) so us as adults would help build the cop shop and let our child play with it... sure as Shite, 10 minutes later he/she is walking away or have destroyed it already....

But if it was modular, then the ability to change the floor layout or even add a floor would be a nice replay value...

As for adults buying it for them selves, 5 days after I buy a booooooring set like those cop shacks, it is break down time.... Like I stated before, if and when I buy a cop box, I will be getting both 2008 and 2011 models to morph together... I need the back blocked off... wal to wall "WALLS" I require!:angry::wink:

But yes... if they can make a fire house modular, then why not a police office as well?

7744. No question-- absolute pleasure to build and it looks pretty darn perfect when completed. I remember asking several members here about whether or not it was worth the purchase (Lightning Tiger and others) who all assured me it was one of the better sets TLG has produced in the last 3 years or so, and they were right. I'd recommend it to anyone else, for sure.

High piece count + small layout = lots of small details

If there is anything in common with 2008 and 2011 you have missed it:

there is two of everything, two cars, two baseplates, two garages, two cells - at twice the price.

How can it be hard to produce a version with a back?

As a parent and consumer I really hate both because I would gladly buy half twice and make something unique, but feel forced and reluctant to buy even one.

The 2011 looks more solid with less parts, but 6398 below looks more varied with even less part.

7744, wins hands down, I feel it has a higher playablity than 2011....although I do like the mug-shot area in the new one which was missing from 7744. It was the set that introduced my son to Lego and brought me out of the dark ages.

Granted the new one comes with a white bicycle and a female officer (what about a female crook eh ? ) the 7744 has the COOL prisoner escape feature that sold my son on the set when he saw it on Cartoon Network all those years ago.

Keep on policing your city !

I like the 2005 one. I don't know why, but it's got something that the others don't.

1996 (or 1997?) version os the best, the one right after 6398.

It has a small harbor, police boat, and the jail's on an island Alcatraz style (and 8 figs IIRC); what's not to like?

Version 2008 and 2011 are my next favorites, still haven't decided, but it's like they can coexist rather than replace each other.

Sorry but I'm not really fan of the recent new Police Stations. I'm a sucker for classic town, so my most favorite police station of all-time is this one:

6598 - Metro PD Station

This is so "Bricksterish". We need fresh though, fresh is good.

My favorite is and always will be 588 Police HQ from 1979. They just don't make 'em like this anymore.

Okay, I suppose out of these... :hmpf: I'll go with the big one - not sure the number.

What can only trump 588 from 1979 is a Police Station Modular. That 6598 Metro PD Station is certainly nice though.

Note: you should add set numbers to your picture for those of us not into LEGO's attempt to create police states.

Oops, almost forgot, 588 - still got the pieces together:

My all-time favourites are the ones escortmad79 and KielDaMan posted but since this topic is focused on three specific police sets I'll just pick my favourite from those.

7744 is just unbeatable. It's not just one of the best police stations ever made, it's one of the best City sets ever released. Lots of parts, a lot of building process involved, a great number of minifigs, two cars, one motorcycle, many interior deatails, lots of play features and it looks just beautiful. Plus, the size is perfect for both classic town (if you are into that) and city displays.

One more advantage that 7744 has is that it can be MODded. The ground floor/shelter areas can easily be built to become cells, offices or whatever you can come up with.

Still waiting to take a more detailed look at the new police station to have a more complete perspective of course.

my favourite is the 588 as put up by "TheBrickster".

Due to sentimental reasons. this was the 1st big LEGO set me & my brother got when we were 6-7yrs old.

till now i still remember the motorbike which had to be assembled brick by brick. and also the hair of the plainclothes policeman which looked like a small piece of chocolate!

I really like the 2010 (the new one) and probably will get it. However, my heart is set on 6384 which is one of the first LEGO sets I ever got.

I had to go with 7744. I like the design the best--it really seemed like an return to the classic style. And updated return, but a return nonetheless. I was actually pretty sad when I had to take this one apart due to its taking up too much space that my modular MOCs needed.

I like all three. though 2008's and 2011's when combined will make a fantastoic mega-station. Once the blue tiles are switched to dark bley the new one looks a lot better. switching the fences at the front from red to white or black helps too.

the main problem these sets have is the placing of the prison cells on the exterior. incorporating them into the main body of the building with access via the rear of the set would give it a more real feeling quality, then there'd be room above the garages for a decent helipad.

My vote goes for 7744 - but it is close to the new one.

I like the idea with the "closed" parking more then an open road - and that's mainly the only thing which makes the winner here, as both are fantastic sets.

The first one however is nice as well, but I dislike the hill baseplate. That's btw the reason I don't have the hospital yet. :)

That reminds me of the police station from back in that old Lego Island PC game (the first one). Ahhh...time flies by so fast. I only have a few of the town sets from the 90s and such but same here, every time I see the classic town sets, I feel like I missed out on such cool sets.

Canada_7, that's because the police station in LEGO Island was, in fact, 6598. It brings back memories for me--I never owned the set, but I loved playing LEGO Island. If I could have voted for it, I would have, but since this is about the City police stations, I chose the one that perhaps reminds me most of 6598.

As a huge fan of the city Police Line I like 7744 for Stations released in the last ten years . One of my favorite classic sets of all time is 6398 and still had this in my town until a few weeks ago when I created my own mega station
