How much is your collection worth?

Recommended Posts

Well i'm always writing the properties of my sets in a .txt file when i buy new ones, but i never took the time

to count how much it all is together. I think something like €900.- to €1000.-

My best estimate is probably around $150,000. :'-(

You must have an insane collection. If it is anything close to your estimate, that would imply 1.5 million or more bricks. I assume that you've got a bricklink store or that you're a professional builder because I couldn't imagine anybody having a personal collection that large.

Later.

Have you seen his minifig collection?!

I would love to see have a collection that size. X-D

I have just recently started recording each of my sets, starting with all the ones I have boxes for, then without, and then extras, such as bricklink orders etc. I have however picked up some pieces at gala's or auction etc, so I don't really know how to price them.

I am having difficulty finding prices for lots of the earlier sets, I am wondering if Peeron has RRP for all these...

I will check it out. :-)

Oh very high I should say X-D I have to much really, the UCS MF is £350 pounds alone! 8-

how much a thing is "worth" is different to how much is "cost"

My collection is worth exactly what it means to me, which is more than anyone could offer to buy it for and far too much to put something as obscene as a dollar value on.

LEGO Love On! *y*

My collection is priceless. :-P Seriously though, I'm never going to worry about figuring out how much it is all worth, as you have to factor in so many different variables.

Well, I started building my collection a little over a month ago. Checked my bank statement yesterday, started totalling my purchases and stopped when I got past $600. Couldn't stomach going past that. :-$

My annual Lego budget is about $10,000-$15,000 and I've been collecting since 1995. Do the math and my estimate is actually very conservative. I don't sell on BL as I found I spent more time doing it than it was worth to me (e.g. packing and mailing a $5 order meant that I spent about $100 in my billable time to fulfill). I'm not a pro builder. In fact, I wish I had more time to even take pictures of what I have. So unfortunately, all I am at present is an obsessive compulsive collector. I also have several thousand Star Wars action figures. So Lego + action figures means my son is really happy:

Colour me impressed!

That's some crazy collection you've got there. I never would have imagined that there was a fan out there with such an enormous collection of LEGO.

Well done on the collection *y* .

No idea on price but a conservative estimate of 500 kilograms in the household would be a good enogh guess. Mostly complte classic town sets and a lot of Pirate and Castle including around 25 pirate ships which seem to push average prices up a bit. Lot's of 12 and 9 v trains and a bunch of technic and powered stuff. The 2 year old in the house has about $500 worth of Duplo and there's plenty of MISB sets squirelled away in cupboards throughout our 2 properties.

I'm far too disorganized to come close to estimating an appropriate value, but I would hazard to guess that it easily approaches the $6,000 mark. I mean, how do you value 100,000+ in lose bricks?

That's my quandry exactly. I probably have about that much brick, but so much of it came via pick-a-brick and used lots there's really no logical way to tally it. I certainly am not going to be inputing tallies of every brick in my collection into peeron or bricklink.

Ive never seen a topic on here before AND I searched so I figgured it would be safe to start a topic asking this question:

"How much money is your LEGO collection worth?"

Mines about $1,150, give or take. Ive actually thought of insuring it....

The last time I actually added it all up, the replacement value of my collection was about $40,000. Yes, I do have a special provision on my home owner's insurance to cover it. It took a lot of explaining to the insurance agent to get them to understand that LEGO could be worth so much.

I think that my collection + the other things I collect goes over 10.000 €'s . So I've also really been thinking about insuring the whole thing, it would just suck if it all burned down. I don't really care about the money it's worth, but we had a litle fire in the house a whille ago and if we wouldn't have been at home at the time, I would not have a collection anymore...

But, I think most collections are less valuable these days because of the low dollar. Almost all the collecting stuff is counted in dollars (for now).

roughly $410, plus about 4-5 gallons of random parts just laying around, lots of mini figs, and 5 McDonalds exclusives from the 70s (still in bags, about $50 each)

so according to me:

lots of SW sets, $about 700, lots of minifigs X-D

Selling each peice down to the last on Bricklink, I am sure I could get at least 15,000. Ebay would be considerably less. But to me the collection is worth so much more. If all it was worth was money I would just sell it off. I can only imagine the fun I will share with my (future) children in the years to come.

$1800. For what I've spent it on, it's been a pretty terrible run to be honest, I've enjoyed about half of the sets. But LEGO's been good to me, it's just that I was stuck in it's little "depression" age and bought most of my things from this. Half is Bionicle, probably. Financially, I haven't been so amazing. But I don't care, being slightly lower income/commission than other families just makes me think more about what I'm buying, and that makes me very happy. :pir-laugh:

Peeron says I have 13199 parts, and I may have missed some sets or mis-identified them. Actually, I know I missed some sets. Converting into real money, I find that they're worth a total of 1037.96 euro.

How much is my collection worth? That's a very good question! Even though I am very organized, I can't tell, since I have no clue how to estimate this! I kept the instruction manual of almost every set I ever got, except for doubles and Brick Bucket idea books. I do have the buckets, though. Do I just look up the price of every set and bucket/tub? If yes, do I look for the current price or the price of when it was released?

Anyhoo, considering all the mindstorms sets, other large sets, buckets, tubs and all the many, many small sets, it probably comes up to about half a million dollars! I mean, I have a whole 7x7 feet large closet stuffed with tubs and sorting cases for pete's sake! And if you need to know the proportions: 1 tub contains bricks from a different color (ONLY BRICKS, no plates, no <insert that tiresome argument> parts, no round bricks) and I need one sorting case that is larger than 2 PS2s put together to contain all 1x2, 1x3, 2x2, 2x3, 2x4, & half of all 1x4 plates! And you have no idea how many MOCs are lying around my big room! So, you see, I have quite a proud collection for somebody my age (20)!

Showing off ON!

PS: Can somebody please still answer me the question(s) from above?

Half a million dollars? And I thought I had alot of bricks! If we go by the US average of about 10 cents per brick, that would put your collection at arround 5 million bricks! Consider the fact that this castle is made of 36,000 bricks. With 5,000,000 bricks you could build something that size 100x over! Heck, I don't even know if there's a bricklink store out there with an inventory that large. Your collection must be among the biggest in the AFOL community.

Still, I'd love to see a photo or photos of your collection. From the sounds of things, it must be insanely large! I know that there are some wealthy fans out there with collections that make us mortals weep, but I wish more people would put photos up on brickshelf.

 I know! I was just kiddin! Don't be intimidated, I probably don't even have half a million BRICKS. As I said, I have no idea how to estimate this! So, I'm not THAT wealthy, but my collection is pretty large. There are still a couple of people who have a whole basement stuffed with bricks (as seen on brickshelf) who I would want to be. :look:
