Captain Whiffo's Duel...
Sailor Leon's Letter...

"Well!" Captain Whiffo went on, "while that oaf was busy getting himself in trouble over in Elysabethtown, I was out a bit more... reasonably occupied..."

January, 617, at sea near Elysabethtown

"Sail ho!" sang out the sailor in the crow's nest one early morning.

Captain Whiffo leaned out over the railing of the White Doubloon and pulled out his telescope.

Eslandola had now been at war with Mardier for a few months over some unwarrented predatory attacks on Eslandolan shipping, and the captain was out with his shiny new ship (well, new to him at least - it had belonged to a sea rat before that...) and a Letter of Marque, and he was very much up and ready for the fight.

38361516914_216e81d956_z.jpg

He brought the telescope into focus, and scanned the horizon.

25204891978_6204148749_z.jpg

"Aha, we've caught sight of those villains at last!  Prepare the cannons!"

"Er, captain?" queried the first mate; "looks like the Mardierian battle fleet, don't it now?"

Captain Whiffo continued gazing through his telescope.  "Mmm, that's what I said, wasn't it?"

"But sir," added the stuttering mate, "you do know we're just in a tiny Class 2, don't you?  Looks to me like that there flagship's got to be a 6 at least, and a couple of 5s with it too."

Captain Whiffo put down his telescope and looked over at the mate.

"Why, my fellow, we'll just go for the flagship, then!  There's nothing like loosing your flagship to a Class 2 to strike terror into a battle fleet!  All sail, and set course to intercept them!"

...      ...     ...

25204876948_65f17193a6_z.jpg

"Yarr, you piratical scoundrels!  Theives!  Villains!  You'll pay for this, you will!  A pretty lot you Mardierians are, to steal a ship like that!  I'll be even with you yet!" Captain Whiffo ejaculated from the little raft he and his little crew had been tossed onto.

As it turned out, he had never even made it to the flagship - the second largest ship of the fleet had cut him off before he had come within firing distance with it, and there really wasn't a whole lot the White Doubloon could do against a ship three times its size anyways, to tell the truth.

27294057259_d77e4cbe4c_z.jpg

Captain Whiffo's eyes narrowed as he glared at the Mardierian Admiral - the Admiral smirking back in mocking triumph all the while.

Whiffo's first mate moaned out loud.

The Captain glared.  The Admiral glared back, neither moving a muscle as the ship slowly slid farther and farther away, leaving the raft astern.

The skull and crossbones-

-=-     -=-     -=-

"Captain-" interrupted the first mate, who was listening to the Captain's tale with the others in the inn, with a sigh - "there were no skull and crossbones."

37600747495_92e079820b_z.jpg

"Well, there may as well as have been!" returned the Captain.  "If the Mardierian shan't show their true piratical colours it only makes them more the villains for it!"

"Well then, no skull and crossbones.  But as I was saying, I glared at that scrupulous villain until my eyes nearly popped out o' my sockets, while we were slowly left farther and farther behind..."

A few minutes more, and the raft rolled along alone on the bosom of the great blue sea...

To be continued...

The next installment of that duel collab with Titus which has been in the works for way too long!  This was an MRCA result build I always wanted to do (ever since last January ) but never got around to until now.

A couple more pictures of the microships (some of the designs stolen pretty ruthlessly from some of KB's great designs!):

And a shot of the whole other build, for the curious (no, the sky definitely was not photoshopped :pir-grin: :pir-laugh:):

Kudos to anyone who can guess what famous event/picture the second build here was (roughly) inspired by!

Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!

Fun story! The telescope effect is very cool, and the microships and the sea are wonderful. I'm still marveling at the effect you got of a rolling sea so simply. Outstanding!

Great job with that part of a ship, the curves are really nice and I quite like the deck although the only way to access it seems to be through the cabin windows. :pir-laugh:   The micro ships are really cool too!   And the water looks very good.

Very nice.  I still love that interior build, and in this quick submission I must say that the shots through the "telescope" stand out and are well done.  :classic:

Wow, that's some very nice builds you've got there! I've already commented on the inn, but I still really it. The sery of microscaled ships are fine as well, and the telescope just add that tiny bit of extra flavour needed  The bigger ship is even better, I fear: the yellow is just yummie-yummie and you pulled off it's curve quite well!

As for the story: just hilarious  Please, keep it up mate!

Thanks Capt!  I was actually originally planning on covering all of the blue with trans-clear, but I ran out, so I decided to spread it out a bit more and really liked how it turned out!  Yep, a judicious (or utterly random ) placement of a bunch of trans-clear parts can really work well for water like this!

Thanks Kai, there's a door or something on the other side, no doubt!    Don't ask me how they actually got on those things!  Thanks, glad you like 'em!  I particularly liked that one here that I took a heap of pictures of (obviously :pir-grin:) - those upside-down curved slopes are just too cool!

Nicely narrated story. The builds were a nice addition and all were spectacularly made! Can't wait for part 2!

Glad you're enjoying the story, mate - and the builds as well!  I hope not to keep you waiting for too long!

Thank you!  Seems like that telescope idea was a hit!  It definitely was a bit of a pain to take pictures holding it in one hand and the camera in the other, though!

Thanks a lot, Titus, really glad you like it!  I definitely wanted to spice up the micro-scale ship scene a bit, and figured that'd probably be a good way to do it!

Thanks!  I mean too!

Very nice ship stern, especially the balcony thingy, and the telescope view is ingeniously made. Funny story as well.

Lovely MOC! The way you made the rolling waves and the micro ships is really nice!. The stern is great looking as well  . I'm guessing the MOC is based other on the Mutiny on the Bounty or perhaps Géricault's Raft :sweet:?

Thanks mate!  I've always wanted to try out that balcony thing on a ship, and figured this would be a good place to do it - plus I didn't have too many more yellow slopes either, so...   Thanks, glad you like it! :classic:

Thanks Khorne! - and you've got it (the Mutiny on the Bounty)   I did swap out the ship's boat for a raft, though, as I've built a lot of boats recently and no rafts hardly at all!  I'm happy to hear that the water really worked well too!

This is a great continuation of the story, and the story does not disappoint. For the photography, the view through the lens is superb! The microships are great duplicates models. :pir-laugh: The rear of the ship looks great except the deck looks like it is falling off. Great coloring and design though. The water style is a favorite part of these builds.

Great builds! The telescope view with the microships looks amazing, not only the ships but the sea is very nicely built in there!

The picture of the raft looks great as well, you were very lucky with the weather, very appropriate

Thanks Silentwolf, glad to hear you've been enjoying the story so far!  Much more of that to come, I hope! :pir-grin: :pir-sweet:

 Yep, ha, ha!  Well, they did actually tilt back like that a bit, you know, and I assure you it is attached there pretty firmly!   The water and telescope seem to have really been the hit here!

Thanks a lot, mate! :pir-sweet:  And yes, that did work out quite nicely - I must admit, I did have to sit around a couple of days to try to get some nice clouds, though   I'm just glad it didn't start raining on me for my pains
