Building some chassis

Tried to make suspension close to real

Fron is something like on original, rear could be closer.

That's quite an interesting chassis!

Is it supposed to replicate some real car?

Are there any advantages to those angled front suspension arms?

That is good news. ...if one is going to build some kind of gear shift mechanism. Hehe

How tight is the fitting?

Nearly got a shock (no pun intended) here as I first though the shock absorber connects onto the drive shaft, but gladly the right side gave the better view :D

In fact, I'm trying to make something close to VW Beetle chassis, and then some Dune buggy on top of it.

As mini bwe was finished, returned to beach buggy.

Shortened wheel base

Now I made this as in real case :)  ( You know - build for real), as for those buggies VW beetle frame is used, which is shortened during rebuild.

Added engine

800x459.jpg

also moved shock absorbers more to sides

Now will come hardest part - body.

Recently built 8069, using parts I have. Intentionally used latest tractor tires.

Volvo bucket is really too big, but somehow attached.

Latest excavator bucket fits well

Conclusion - one of the best (if not the best) technic set. Really like it.

It was on sale for 40EUR on some trade place. Now really regret not buying it. Only when building, realised, that there are some other good parts, which I don't have.

8069 is my favorite set. Thanks for posting, and I like the modifications you made. Sorry panels 13 and 14 in yellow are pretty rare.

Yes, that is one of the regrets

Now I wonder why Lego waited so long to introduce them into the line-up... they just look great.

The thing is, the smaller 56 tires require a 0.5 stud offset to be leveled with the 81 tires. It's always a little pain in the brick.

Yeah, the original bucket fits way better...

Somehow I was hoping that 8069 would be a kind of successor of 8455 set, but even tire proportions were off; at least your tire choice is much better

As built 42005, I was thinking, why not to build smaller version. So, some possible axle configuration was made

800x765.jpg

Yes, wheels seems little too small, but don't know if more narrower axle could be made.

Main chassis

800x661.jpg

With spring setup like this, there is some supension travel (2+ studs), but it is still pretty hard suspension. It won't be so nice like on 42005

As one who has had a hand in building and owning full size buggies, I find your MOC amazingly true to form - especially the engine! Well done!
