I hope Lego eventually does a version as would prefer official figures, but for now it's epic seeing them together. Just waiting on the official Symbiote outfit, MJ and Green Goblin in January and that'll be a fairly complete Raimi collection to display. Still wouldn’t mind them doing a Doc Ock Hideout remake as would love to see that design updated. I reluctantly agree with John Walker not being treated as 'hype' as the trailers make no attempt to get anyone hyped by his inclusion, despite him personally being a character I care more about than the rest of the Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four or Wakandans. A Doc Ock hideout set would be perfect. Spider-Man 2 is the most popular of the Spider-Man movies anyway. When they re-released all of them in theaters, 2 years ago, it was the highest-grossing re-release. They could easily make a 2nd set from that movie. I think we have to keep in mind that John is not really a household name and he lacks ground appeal amongst general audiences. He's only had 2 MCU projects, one of which was as a side character in a fairly criticized Disney+ show and the other being one of the lowest grossing MCU movies of all time. The majority of audiences who see Doomsday will probably have no idea who he is. For kids, most of them probably think he's just Captain America in a darker suit. I wouldn't be surprised if the choice to give him a beret is specifically to make it more obvious that he's not Cap and distinguish him from Steve (who inevitably will end up back in the Cap suit I'm sure, by Secret Wars anyway). 1 hour ago, Agent Kallus said: Would he though? He's been a set before, admittedly an expensive one but she never has... Until now. She's like John. I agree with you. Mystique is a new character and one of the most iconic ones from the original movies thanks to her design. She's easily Marvel's most famous villainess. And even in the reboot X-Men films, she was one of the main leads and played by JLaw. Gambit was very popular in the 90s but he went through a steep decline in the 2000s. He only regained some of his popularity again in the last few years. Outside of the 90s show, he never had any mainstream media depictions as a lead. 1 hour ago, Mandalorianknight said: I hear this and I just don't get it. Putting aside that marvel's been inconsistent in terms of whether or not they consider recasting a dead actor's role disrespectful, Johnathan Majors didn't die, he just committed a crime and got arrested. He wasn't even particularly good- he did well as HWR and Timely, but even putting aside the quantumania writing he just wasn't a good Kang. There's no reason they couldn't have just recast him and continued with the Kang stuff. That's all to say, I think marvel used Major's crime as an excuse to shift gears from an already failing phase and break the RDJ glass in case of emergency. I refuse to believe that they didn't recast kang out of respect for majors, or because they thought it would be confusing to audiences who just saw 3 different spider-man faces if the blue-faced time travel guy suddenly had a different face. Yeah, it had nothing to do with Jonathan Majors. For a character known for his alternate versions, they could easily have recast him. It had more to do with how badly Kang was received, in both Loki and especially in Ant-Man 3. Marvel did a major pivot to try and win back the fanbase by dumping him. And as we've seen in recent projects, Marvel has already repurposed some of their scrapped plans for Kang elsewhere. Quote
JeanGreyForever Posted July 22 Posted July 22 (edited) 9 hours ago, Mandalorianknight said: It's mentioned once or twice. He's of course the pilot in the mission that gets them their powers, but I believe he also pilots their ship in the Galactus meeting. Whenever I mention him not being the pilot, though, I'm just being facetious- the real reason the pilot is cyclops is because Sam and Thing both have extensions to their minifig that would prevent them from fitting in the cockpit. I don't actually blame lego for that. Apparently. Gambit is like the one character I've (until your comment) only seen people being positive about, and even with the memes that are popping up from the trailer, all of them but the "Doom stops stormbreaker with two fingers" one are just the bits of the trailer Gambit's in- him yeeting himself off the balcony of the mansion and slamming down in front of the avengers, him holding the card in front of his face with the "don't try it" expression, etc. I don't think I've seen ANYTHING about wanda (again until your comment), or asking about missing characters from the trailer at all- most character-based discourse I've heard either in real life or online has either been people hyped to see Thor, Gambit, and Shang-Chi (the latter of which surprised me but I suppose he was a fun character), or people complaining there are too MANY characters and most of them will probably just show up, quip, and leave. I would say Raimi and TASM are both more likely just off being spider-mans, but yeah, X-men are more likely than any of the old failed movies or mature stuff like Blade/Punisher/Daredevil. Though I think at this point it is becoming clearer and clearer that the next X-mansion we get, while I guess technically a fox one, will be a Doomsday mansion. (And you already know that set will have two Yelenas to inflate the fig count) About wanda: Hide contents Marvel seems to have hedged their bets with a few of the actors/actresses in terms of if they can/how expensive it would be to get them. We pretty reliably know at this point that Strange and Wanda are both in Doom's Cabal of masked allies, but it's unclear if they ever take their masks off. What's funny is unlike many of the heroes in the trailer, it sounds like we actually do have a lego Wanda coming with that "female doom" minifigure in the january mech battle. I can't remember now, but he must have piloted the ship when Reed was helping Sue give birth in space. Most of that movie left no impression on me. I think it depends on which fandom you're in. I mostly see things from the X-Men fandom and they've hated Channing Tatum as Gambit since day one. Especially since the X-Men fandom tends to have a much larger percentage of female fans and LGBTQ fans. Gambit has always been a major sex symbol, like Nightwing in DC. So his fanbase has never felt Channing Tatum had the physicality to play Gambit, who is much more lithe. There's also quite an uproar that a joke character (meaning his portrayal in D&W was a joke, not the character himself) has been included over more long-standing X-Men like Jean, Storm, Rogue, Iceman, etc. And I recently saw that Anna Paquin did confirm she wanted to come back but was not asked. So health issues are not the reason for her absence. At this point, Famke Janssen, Anna Paquin, and Shawn Ashmore have all said they wanted to come back but were not asked by Marvel. Including Mystique (a villain), Gambit (a joke character who wasn't even part of the original films), and Beast and Nightcrawler (one-movie characters) over the aforementioned names who were in all of the trilogy films just comes across as shortsighted. Many people wanted to see Rogue and Gambit in a movie together, especially since Doomsday is pushing the 90s aesthetic. On Instagram, about half the comments on the trailer were asking where's Wanda. All of this goes to show how massive this character became and how badly Marvel dropped the ball on their only genuinely popular "new" character since Endgame. Spoiler I'm also of the mindset that she's going to be masked for most of the movie, if not all of it. If we're lucky, we might see her face once for a reveal or something. It's clearly how they plan on bringing her back without actually having to use Elizabeth Olsen. But I have a strong feeling this is going to backfire and just get more hate. People already disliked what happened to Wanda in MoM, so Marvel is crazy if they think fans will accept her as Doom's brainwashed pawn, that too in a role where she's just played by a stunt double and we never see her face or hear her voice. Imagine bringing back Steve or Tony that way and not expecting fans to riot. Although Chris Claremont claimed that Wanda will be introduced as Magneto's daughter in Doomsday. Which none of the leaks have said so maybe there's a surprise waiting for her role? But he also claimed Famke is in the movie and that we'll see Psylocke. The only way I can see Famke in the movie is based on the opening scene (what the trailer shows with Xavier at the mansion) with claims that Famke's Jean will sacrifice herself to save the rest of the surviving X-Men. Cyclops' optic blast scene being a reaction to that. Killing off Famke's Jean early would also work to segue Sadie Sink as the new Jean, since she'll be one of the leads of Secret Wars, to establish the multiverse early on. I meant outside of Raimi movies, which we already have sets of, the original FoX-Men movies are the most likely to get new sets. That or TASM movies which I've said in the past could also be likely to get at least one set. Even if they're not a popular as the Raimi movies, the fact that they're Spider-Man-themed means they have a good chance. And Andrew's Spider-Man became even more popular after NWH. Spoiler Plus we know he'll be in Secret Wars although he won't be a main lead the way Tobey and Tom are. Edited July 22 by JeanGreyForever Quote

"Azula always lies, Azula always lies." Andrew Garfield also said he was not going to be in Spider-Man: No Way Home. I mean they probably aren't in it but maybe they could be (then again they'd probably use them in the marketing to try to drive more X-fans to the cinema) but hopefully there's a bigger chance of them showing up in secret wars especially if it's been divided into 2 movies like some rumours suggest. If they want a deep cut mutant from the old universe then Emma Dumont played a great Polaris in the TV 'The Gifted', not really relavent I know but she was great in that show and if they want to jam pack the avengers Doom movie then it'd be cool to see her. ___________________________________ Back to Lego talk, could someone summarise what know about the 2027 sets? Sue & Shang Chi however are meant to be the hype, they are given key moments in the trailer. Sue Vs Namor and Shang Chi Vs Gambit are supposed to be big hype moment of the trailer. Those look pretty cool and accurate to what I remember of the film. I'd sorta imagine an Epic Moments set would just be an inspired-by Void fight but with the selection of characters I mentioned: Yelena, John Walker, Ghost and Void (Maybe throwing Bob in also). Releasing them in January would risk them leaking before the movie, which Disney would probably not be pleased abou Yeah. I swear marvel either somehow doesn't know he's popular or doesn't want him to be- they wanted to make him a villain (and a hulk) in thunderbolts in the original script, and even in the new version they never actually clear up ghost's "publicly killed an innocent man" lie so anyone who didn't watch TFATWS is given the impression that he just merked some random civilian in the street. (Which again, not to get into the whole "was John's kill justified' thing, but at the very least we can say it was not an innocent man). Plus the stupid beret. Yes, I know that one's not really a valid argument and probably just there to differentiate him from cap. I don't care, it looks dumb. Is Sue fighting Namor there? And if so... what? why? Are they not doing "Namor has a crush on Sue"? Are they doing it and just going uncomfortably far with it, to the point he tries to forcibly stop her from leaving not-atlantis? But yeah, Sue, Shang, and Namor were all given some play in the trailer (and Gambit!) despite not being in the sets. Thanks! the final void battle would also be great- my initial mockups of what would become these sets were before the Epic Moments collection got revealed, but if I'd made the vault battle today it would be in that format. (I think the vault battle is also fairly likely as it'd be a cheap way to get the missing characters from that film- Taskmaster, Ghost, and John- alongside a re-used Yelena and a Bob that could be kitbashed) Which makes that mech battle all the more confusing- even if the minifigure's costume wouldn't spoil anything, the design doesn't seem like it'll be in the marketing. (You want to talk about a money shot for the trailer stinger, THAT would have been a good one. Adds a lot of intrigue and is something that while not a spoiler IS something we haven't already seen in the marketing.) 3 hours ago, Agent Kallus said: How else are we gonna get a flesh tone 3 eye strange? This is the second movie now where Black Widow refused to dye her hair red Why does Captain America have wings? Oh, cool, Thor. I like him. I don't think your comparisons hold. Reed is the leader of the F4. Personally I don't care for him, but he has visually striking powers AND pretty much every other scene in the movie has the other members marvelling about how smart he is. Whereas Sue is only there to be motherly and prop up Reed, AND her power is literally not being noticed. He was in Dr Strange 2 as well. Even if you haven't seen the F4 movie you might be familiar with him. People are also familiar with Falconcap by now, he was in plenty of the Avengers movies (in a different costume but more people probably notice the wings than their paint job) AND he had his own Captain America movie. (Which probably drew at least some viewers who thought it would be about Steve Rogers Captain America.) And anyone in my generation would know who Cyclops and Mystique are (though I give you that Nightcrawler's new look is confusing). Yelena is a bit of an outlier, though it's always been established that there are multiple Black Widows, and otherwise she'll just be taken for a regular agent or assassin or something along those lines. The people I was referring to were all only in very specific movies that weren't particularly well-received, or ones where enough time without any follow-up has passed that no-one really remembers them. Or in Gambit's case the movie was highly popular but R-rated which again excludes a large chunk of the audience. Quote
BoyLego Posted July 22 Posted July 22 I don’t find it at all surprising that not all characters have been included, there’s just too many and if they hold some back now, they can be included in future sets to help them sell better. I also don’t think they will be using something as woolly as character popularity to determine who to include, there just isn’t enough hard, sales based, data for a lot of these characters. Sure they know Spider-man is popular because they have sales data from sets that just include him but a lot of these characters it will be really hard for them to tell. You have to remember not everyone is terminally online and the majority of people who like these characters enough to buy a set with them in aren’t posting about it online, so online comments are not a good data source for what will sell well. Looking at the spread they mostly seem to have picked the characters that have had the most screen time/were the lead in their movies (barring a few exceptions) which is the logical thing to do. The oddest omission by far to me is Sue, just because they are such a small, close knit team (with the number of them in the name) and she was more or less the lead of their mcu movie. This is most likely based on the focus groups they would have done with kids for the galactus set, I can easily imagine kids not picking her as their fav just based on her not having long legs/big hands/fireballs. Antman not being there is kinda strange but he could have bad sales/bad focus group responses from his previous LEGO outings. Mystique was (for some reason) a lead in most of the Fassbender/McAvoy era movies. Nightcrawler is odd. Shang Chi and Shuri they have sales data for so those sets likely sold poorly. The trailer got me pumped and did a great job hyping up Doom as a threat. Glad he has an accent, gives me hope he’s not just a Stark variant which in my opinion would be doing dirty one of their best characters from the comics. The X-men nostalgia didn’t land for me although if I didn’t already know they (and Steve) were going to be there this really would have hit so hard. Not really their fault, if they hadn’t announced it I’m sure it would have been spoiled anyway. Quote

The reason I don't think that's necessarily the case here is because Famke said the same thing about Deadpool & Wolverine and how she wasn't in it. And she's been pretty vocal for years about how she's never been asked to come back unlike her male co-stars who have had countless opportunities since DOFP. For D&W, there were plenty of leaks claiming that Jean and Storm would be in it. How there was a big battle on Alcatraz from X-Men: The Last Stand where Magneto would unveil Wanda as his daughter and she'd fight with Jean and lose. None of that ended up true, but back then, people thought it was real and that Famke was lying. So I'm inclined to believe her a 2nd time. Similarly, Shawn Ashmore said he's not lying about not being in the movie because if that was the case, he wouldn't be allowed to talk about it at all. I also find it hard to believe they'd hide Rogue or Iceman from the marketing if they were really in the movie. Jean, I can understand, since she's a much bigger character and significantly affects the plot due to her powers, but there'd be no reason to hide Rogue and Iceman if they're showing Gambit, Beast, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, etc. I do find it funny that D&W brought back Pyro but we still can't get Iceman or Rogue back. Fox had a very long history of cutting down Rogue's role in multiple movies (X2, The Last Stand, The Wolverine, DOFP, I think even Logan) so I can buy it. Considering Marvel doesn't even want to include characters from their own Disney+ shows now (She-Hulk, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, Echo, Ironheart, Wonder Man), I can't imagine they'd ever entertain including a failed Fox show that I think got cancelled right after the Fox buyout. But I do remember Emma Dumont and I think she was pretty vocal on social media about wanting to appear with Wanda in the MCU. But I guess she doesn't have the clout Hugh Jackman had when she said he'd return to playing Wolverine only if he could star in the MCU and work alongside Captain America. Quote

There are some surprises they've managed to keep themselves from spewing all over the marketing. I don't think Hela's that popular at all. She had one big movie which give her a bit of a boost in merchandise and media depictions, but she's still fairly minor. If I did a survey of random people on the street, more people would probably recognize Mystique by name and face than Hela. And she got heavy criticism for being wasted as a villain, even played by multiple Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett. Most MCU villains have suffered from their onscreen depictions. Only Loki, Thanos, and to a lesser extent, Killmonger, really took off. I think people forget too that not only was Mystique one of the central characters from the rebooted X-Men movies (and a big part of why most of them didn't work in the long run), alongside Xavier and Magneto, but she was also played by JLaw. Who at least back then, was one of the biggest actors of the era thanks to Hunger Games and her Oscar win. That being said, it's not shocking that the second her benefactor Harvey Weinstein was put away, her career died. As you said though, Mystique is in that same boat as Magneto now where she's seen equally as much a hero as a villain. I think it's more that Channing Tatum was too old for the role by the time he's cast and he doesn't have the physicality that a thief would have. Let alone his lack of a believable Cajun accent. Just so you don't think I'm making up the fan backlash, I've posted some tweets to show you some popular consensus. There were a lot more but they used profanity and I don't know how strict this place is about that so to be safe, I won't post those lol. Yes, it's true that Channing Tatum is a big Gambit fan and has been lobbying to get him a movie for years. But I don't think being a fan necessarily means you're a perfect casting for a role. An example is Michael Jackson was a major X-Men fan (I heard he loved Morph from the 90s show so much that Morph was brought back due to positive fan reception, including MJ) and lobbied for the role of Professor X in the movies. I don't know if I would think he'd work as Xavier, although I think he'd be better casting than Channing is for Gambit. Gambit has gained popularity again, I agree. Like I said, he was major fan fav of the 90s but his popularity took a decline by the 2000s. Part of that was ironically because the movies kept pushing him back since they felt he was too popular to waste in a one-and-done. He was supposed to be in the first X-Men movie (also Beast and Jubilee, Jubilee in the Rogue role. Beast's content was all given to Jean when he was cut out), then in X2, and then in X-Men: The Last Stand, which basically had every popular A-List mutant ever (Angel, Beast, Colossus, Kitty, Psylocke, Jubilee, Juggernaut, and even Multiple Man), except for Nightcrawler (who was supposed to come back but Alan Cumming felt the movie didn't give him anything to do) and Gambit who was purposefully removed from the movie since Fox didn't want to waste him in one role. Unfortunately, his debut was in that Wolverine Origins garbage and so he was viewed as damaged goods for many more years. The last few years did help build up his popularity again, particularly D&W and X-Men '97, plus all the 90s nostalgia which he's heavily linked to (Jubilee has also seen a slight resurgence due to this and now she's rumored to be one of the main cast of the X-Men reboot). But going back to the Channing Tatum portrayal, I remember he was heavily disliked as a casting choice long before D&W came out, during all those years that Gambit solo movie was being rumored. Most fans admired his passion for the character but felt he was seriously miscast and someone else should play him. Including him in D&W felt more akin to Nicholas Cage's cameo in The Flash for his aborted Superman movie. If you look back at the 90s, the big characters were Wolverine, Gambit, Spider-Man (always in vogue), Venom, Carnage, and Sabretooth. Cable as well to a lesser extent. Most of these characters have become relevant again in the last few years such as Venom (the Eddie Brock version specifically) and Carnage. My guess is that certain absences will be characters killed off early on in some of the trailer scenes. But that's probably just going to irritate fans who don't want to see their favs come back for a single death scene, while others like Gambit, Mystique, and Nightcrawler get slightly more central roles. As we spoke about a certain missing female character, they seem to plan to include her in a way that doesn't involve actually utilizing much of the original actor, so I don't think that's going to earn Marvel many brownie points for "bringing her back." Personally I don't care for him, but he has visually striking powers AND pretty much every other scene in the movie has the other members marvelling about how smart he is. I mean, I can make points for the characters you said too- Shuri has essentially the exact same thing you said for falconcap except her movie made twice as much money, for one thing. My point is that I don't think you can say the specific characters left out are the least popular or most obscure or anything- generally (but not even always) the main/leads of each team are present, but beyond that who got chosen and who didn't seems almost random. Also I get that you have problems with Sue's portrayal in the film, but for all intents and purposes she was the lead of that movie. Just as they tell you Reed's super smart, they remind you a few times in the movie she's some sort of major world leader. She's the one who actually takes down Galactus. She's even the one who gets the marvel hero fakeout death in the vein of iron man, black panther, captain america, and the rest. Her name may be invisible woman still, but I don't even remember her turning invisible in the movie- the focus on her powers was on her force fields, something the Doomsday trailer even spends a shot displaying. 13 hours ago, BoyLego said: Antman not being there is kinda strange but he could have bad sales/bad focus group responses from his previous LEGO outings. Nightcrawler is odd. I will say given lego didn't even give Quantumania a standard set I think it can be implied that they don't have much confidence in ant-man to sell sets himself, but it's not as if they ignore him in the team-up film sets. With this one I would guess that it could be a case of them not having enough figure slots and him being on shelves in a near-identical suit already. For some reason it really seems like they want to push Nightcrawler in this movie. He's getting a lot of merch and promo stuff, they're even going to drop him into Rivals a month or two before (with the other Doomsday character dropped being Doom himself). 12 hours ago, JeanGreyForever said: I don't think Hela's that popular at all. I don't think it's true that Hela suffered after being in Ragnorak- on the contrary I think she's really started to take off in ancillary media and comics. She's shown up in stuff like the what if show, she's started popping up in a lot more games, ones mystique hasn't shown up in like Cosmic Invasion or Rivals- where she's actually one of the only villains on the entire roster-, and now she's getting a whole summer event focused on her in the comics. Mystique may have been the most famous marvel villainess in the early 2000s, but I don't think that's the case anymore. Again he has spoken about how the accent was done like that purely because it was being used as a joke in the movie and he'll have a more authentic/realistic one in doomsday. I don't think you're making up that some people on twitter are upset, but some people on twitter are always upset. The fact is that DP&W did give gambit a massive popularity boost with the general audience and casual fans. There's a reason he's back in doomsday. I'm going to put this in a spoiler even though I will not say who specifically the returning characters are, just because it is online now and I think a lot of people can puzzle out from context who I'm talking about: Spoiler X-men wise, there is one character who appears in the opening and ending/post-credits. It's unclear if there is going to be a fakeout death or if the audience be shown the character survived and it's just the other x-men that will believe them to have died. Another character will not just appear in the opening but at the very least in the battle between the X-men and 616 heroes. This character does not die in the movie. As for Wanda, I mean... she did die, they can't exactly just put her in doomsday as if nothing happened or spend a bunch of screen time in an already bloated movie bringing her back. The reason her face isn't being shown for most of the movie is the same as why Strange and the others will appear masked- they want it to be a surprise for the audience. The way she appears to return does tie into a major arc in the comics, what with her kids seemingly going to be part of the secret wars's much smaller primary cast- plus I think it's been speculated basically since disney bought fox that she's going to be a major part of starting the mutant saga- so she will have a big role to play in secret wars. And since there's no Quantumania Ant Man figure to have him displayed next to his giant counterpart, it's understandable why that set wouldn't be as desirable Just something noteworthy though, Ant Man in the Doomsday trailer has his AMatW/Endgame suit rather than Quantumania or a new one. So he could've been an easy reuse, but at the same time, at least he was in the Endgame diorama, so he's basically been covered Just two more sets based on what we've seen in the trailer would cover a lot of bases; Wakanda Vs Talokan (featuring Black Panther, Namor, Invisible Woman, USAgent, Ghost, M'Baku and Falcon). Kaijumeister Posted July 22 Author Posted July 22 It seems like a lot of pieces are used in the Avengerz Tower for that blue subassembly at the back. Seems unnecessary to me. Curious to see whether this will simply have an open back like the current mini-modulars or will actually swing open like all the previous Avengers Tower sets. For my initial thoughts, I don’t think this is a spectacular wave by any stretch which is quite sad given this is our first Avengers film in 7 years. I’ll reserve my full thoughts for when we can see more than eight pixels because I do think the poor image quality is exacerbating our initial impressions. Seriously, would it kill them to give Reed the stretchy arms? Quote

Seriously, would it kill them to give Reed the stretchy arms? Why is it even blue in the first place? It really seems to be black in Thunderbolts, which is the same color it is in the Sentry Watchtower in the comics. It's windows/glass, yes, but black-tinted ones. Yeah. Really disappointing overall. Only 1/3 of the builds is actually anything good and it also happens to be the one that's extremely overpriced. My thoughts: Regular Jet: This doesn't look like a quinjet. It's too thin in the front, the fuselage is more of a line than the bowing quinjets have in the MCU, it feels more like a downscaled passenger plane. A lot of the quinjet attributes are missing- and even if those are Doomsday issues and not Lego issues, the build itself is REALLY basic in a lot of places and almost gives 2003-era lego vibes. Figure selection, as mentioned before, is pretty lackluster. Shirtless Thing only confirms to me that he doesn't work as a normal minifig. One thing I want to point out- it looks like cyclops has regular blue arms, not navy blue. I was already going to skip the set, but if his suit's the same color as the cartoon minifig I won't even bother bricklinking him. I predict this set's going to sell the worst out of the three- Thing, Falcon, and Cyclops have all just been in sets of similar or cheaper prices and Doom is in literally every set this wave. Marvel Legends Sentinel: Credit where credit is due, that's a nice sentinel build. If this set goes on discount, I might pick up the sentinel for my X-men display. But he does look to be the same size as Galactus, more or less, a set that was already a pretty dubious price, and we're asking for $40 more for.. two more figs and a little base? And the figs aren't anything to write home about either. Once again, Reed is refused the stretchy arms for longer legs. I basically already have that Thor. Doom's in every set, and I've got no clue what's going on with that magneto design. Magneto and nightcrawler may be another case of doomsday issues rather than lego ones, but neither are figure designs I want. Props to lego for giving Mystique a better haircut than the movie did. I might pick it up if the figs are somehow going for a lot so I can get the sentinal for pretty cheap, but that'd be the only reason. Set needed Gambit. A Vicious Personal Attack on Me Specifically: Gaagh, Agh, LEGO, WHY? Look. I can forgive most of the weird stuff you're doing with the doomsday sets. I can forgive that this is the least playsets of any avengers film. I can forgive some of the missing characters. I cannot forgive excluding Walker and Ghost from this set, but we'll move past that for now. But at the VERY LEAST, why couldn't you be bothered to make a decent build? This is awful. You can't even call this a tower. This is just terrible. I legitimately think mine was better. I think most people here could design a better one- I'm pretty sure if you force-fed an AI stud.io data it could make you a better build than this. I guess on the bright side, they've made the figures so lackluster that I'm not as tempted to spend $110 on baby's first mini modular. It looks like not a single bolt has printed legs. Sentry's hair isn't blonde- again, maybe that's a doomsday issue and not a lego issue, but Sentry's blonde, that's kind of a major part of his design. Bucky also has black hair again- what's going on with the hair? Can somebody talk to the figure designer for this theme, they seem to have a really tough time telling what color hair people have. This isn't the first time they've done this to Bucky. At the end of the day... agh, I do love the thunderbolts. But I think at the very least, I can wait a few months and hope for a sale... or a leak on a future thunderbolts set. But really, these are bad. And it's not just weird fig choices, or the limited selection, the quinjet and tower both do not look like good builds. It's weird to think that these are the same execs and the same team responsible for this January and next January. Quote
JeanGreyForever Posted July 23 Posted July 23 I love the Sentinel set and it's the only one I'm sure to get. I didn't expect the colors to be so bright and saturated so that's a nice surprise. Nightcrawler looks awful but that's more his movie design I'm not a fan of. Mystique got a much needed improvement with that longer hairpiece, even if it's (thankfully) not movie accurate. Interesting that they're both Dark Azure instead of Blue. They won't match Beast, or the CMF Beast anyway. If we ever get a Doomsday Beast, wonder if they'd lighten his color to be Dark Azure as well. Quinjet is a pass for me, even with Ben. Avenger Tower looks very cheap. I'm interested in Johnny and Sentry but the set itself looks really off with the scale. I guess nothing would compare to the D2C set. I forget Beast was in this but he's yet another missing character, although given he's been entirely absent from any marketing I won't blame lego for that one. Quinjet is awful. Worst figure selection and a really lackluster and not quinjet-like build- you can't have both. Given how Doom is in every set, I don't even think "cheapest non-bust way to get doom for like three months" will work as well as I imagine lego is hoping. If you're already paying $60 for a set, I could see most kids with that kind of money (or access to parents' money) just buying/asking for the $100 ones. And pretty much right after the movie comes out, there'll be a much cheaper way to get this fig anyway. Tower also looks awful. Some of the figures are OK, even if lego still thinks Bucky has black hair, not a single bolt has leg printing, and John Walker and Ava Starr are missing, but yeah, the build just does not work. 4 minutes ago, hvader said: I think we can all agree now that the Doom mech set is most likely Doomsday based? I think people underestimate how popular Nightcrawler is. He's one of the most iconic X-Men. The Alan Cumming portrayal was the breakout character of X2, widely considered the best X-Men movie. There's still merch of his X2 version to this day, despite only appearing in one movie. That's why I don't mind his return (or Kelsey Grammer's Beast) since both were critically acclaimed. I'll use Beast as an example where Kelsey Grammer's one portrayal was better received than all those countless movies Nicholas Hoult did as the young Beast, a completely forgettable version. To give you an idea of Nightcrawler's popularity, even though he wasn't part of the 90s Jim Lee lineup, he was still frequently included simply because of how iconic an X-character he was (Kitty Pryde did not fare so well in comparison). When the 90s show had DVDs, they used to put Nightcrawler on multiple covers to sell those DVDs, but in the actual show, he's only a guest-star in 2 episodes tops! It didn't shock me that in '97, he was the first new character they had officially join the lineup since for years prior, they had been retroactively acting like he was a main character. Just to clarify, I didn't say Hela suffered from appearing in Ragnarok. I admitted she's gotten a boost of popularity since then in other media, but she's hardly some A-List villain or household name where a random person on the street would know her by name or even recognize her. Most of the media you mentioned is pretty niche, particularly the comics which have been a dying industry since the 2000s. So much so that Disney almost shut them down after the Marvel buyout but only kept the comics around to keep making more material that they could potentially use in the movies. You have to remember that even the Disney+ shows are pretty niche and most moviegoers watch the MCU movies having no idea who the Disney+ characters are (Kang being a prime example), so if that's the case for shows that are heavily marketed by Disney as part of the MCU, you can imagine what the case is for all these minor games or comic events that only hardcore fans, if even, are familiar with. Marvel movies are dedicated to general consumers. The Marvels is the best example where only the hardcore fans came out but general audiences were not interested so it flopped. Same with BNW and Thunderbolts. Doomsday will survive only if general audiences accept it. Marvel knows they always have hardcore fans. They're bringing back people like Steve, RDJ, the FoX-Men, etc. because they know general audiences are not interested in the Thunderbolts, FF, Namor, Shang-Chi, etc. A Mystique has more name and visual recognition even today than Hela has ever had. Due to the movies, she's probably the most recognizable "X-Woman" after the trinity of Jean, Storm, and Rogue. We'll see, I still thinks he looks and acts like a buffoon in all the Doomsday footage so far but Channing Tatum was never a good actor. And I wouldn't say him being included in Doomsday is saying much since this movie also includes M'Baku, Ghost, Red Guardian, Sam as Cap, Sam's sidekick, Ant-Man, etc. Hardly a stellar lineup of characters lol. Infinity War may have sidelined some A-listers for Endgame, but it's overall cast was still very relevant and significant. Spoiler Wolverine for me is a non-issue because no one thought for even a second that he won't eventually show up. Everyone assumed he's absent for Doomsday so he can be a lead in SW, which is what we're seeing is the case. He's just here for the opening of Doomsday and ending to set-up SW. Same with Tobey. I believe the 2nd character you mean is Deadpool, who I've heard does have a slightly more extended role, compared to Wolverine and Tobey. I've also heard rumors that there might be other X-Men outside of the ones they're promoting. But they're only going to be in the opening scene and most likely be killed off immediately. The X-Men confirmed and promoted for Doomsday are the survivors of that opening. I haven't heard anything concrete about any names for this but there were very old leaks featuring a full X-Men lineup including Jean, Storm, Rogue, Iceman, Angel, Colossus, and Psylocke (I don't remember if Kitty was here or not, I don't think she was). And Claremont has said Famke is in as Jean and Psylocke is also in the movie, so perhaps this matches up with that leak. Others have been saying that what Xavier and Scott react to in the trailer is Jean sacrificing herself to stop the incursion and the orange flash is her Phoenix effect. Also hearing mild rumors that Wolverine may end up becoming Phoenix for Secret Wars??? But this might be like those MoM theories about Tom Cruise as Superior Iron Man or Magneto being Wanda's father. Except Wanda's easily the most popular new character and more people would be interested in seeing her than literally 75% of the actual Doomsday cast lol. I haven't seen the Agatha show but I read the ratings were so strong that it beat Daredevil: Born Again (also didn't watch that, partly because of your criticism towards it) simply on account of being a WandaVision spinoff that teased her return. So I do think they could easily have done more to promote her return as a big part of the movie or reshape the narrative around her more, considering fans have been asking for a Wanda solo movie for a while now. I have mixed feelings about the stuff with the Young Avengers since I don't think most of them are commercially viable. The stuff about Wanda being tied to the mutants has been teased since Phase 4, since the Fox buyout was around that time. It really depends on how willing Elizabeth Olsen is to reprise her role for another few phases of movies. I saw Feige saying he's got a Mutant Saga mapped out up to 2042, but even that's only contingent on if the X-Men reboot works and if audiences are invested that long with the deteriorating quality of the MCU. I have my doubts. Especially based on how aimless Phases 4-6 were and how much had to be scrapped and altered with Kang flopping, Black Panther's death, Captain Marvel flopping, Wanda becoming an unexpected breakout character, all the Disney+ characters failing to take off, the lack of any real Avengers team, Thor losing all goodwill for future movies, Samcap flopping, Thunderbolts flopping, FF underperforming, Blade never taking off, Shang-Chi getting stalled enough to lose momentum, etc. 19 minutes ago, Scarilian said: Did some sleuthing and found the prototype for the Sentinel online via instagram user 'avengers_doomsday_leaks_' Key differences: Dark Red and Purple, closer to the darker tones of the movie Appears to be 7 figures, not 6, the 7th is difficult to identify possibly Beast or Gambit (?) He would have been a perfect companion to the X-Mansion Sentinel. Suddenly, I'm not as invested in the set now. Although it's promising that there's a 7th character, possibly Beast or Gambit. Why do I feel like it's Beast so they can have all the blue characters in one set lol? Also is it just me or is the spoiler minifigure clearly a much demanded spoiler character? I don't think Lego will be able to market this minifig by the character's name, but I'm assuming it's not some rando. 21 minutes ago, Mandalorianknight said: Yeah that's the one improvement lego's made here, they actually made mystique look better than the movie version. Her face is definitely closer to lego's dark azure in the trailer- I guess we haven't seen Nightcrawler to confirm yet. Now I'm wondering if even the Mystique hair in the photo isn't accurate to the final product and if they're going to go with a shorter style to match her movie look. Nightcrawler in X2 had a very dark blue color but I also can't tell if Doomsday made him lighter/brighter or not. I'm too distracted by that awful hair. FoX-Men had a weird tendency to make white hair a plot point: Rogue getting her iconic white streak from Magneto's machine, Storm getting white hair from Apocalypse, etc. Never thought they'd carry this over to the MCU to plague poor Nightcrawler. The Quinjet is way too small but honestly, I still think it's better than the Tower which looks absolutely abominable. I thought I was being overly harsh to it but I saw other people here hate it as much as I do. The Sentinel set was the only saving grace of this wave but learning the color scheme is different changes my mind on that. I get why Ghost is missing, since she was such a nonentity even in the Thunderbolts movie, but the lack of John is quite odd. I really wonder if they're worried people will think he's Cap in a new suit and cause confusion, particularly since these sets don't have Steve and kids might get upset about that. Spoiler I could be wrong, but isn't John one of the main leads of Secret Wars? Maybe Lego is saving him for that. 19 minutes ago, NXS7 said: Part of me was/maybe still is concerned the tail would just get printed on his back, especially as there's not a current piece (to my knowledge) that would acceptably work for his tail Wouldn't the devil tail piece be perfect for Nightcrawler? But I don't know if it's still in production or not. They didn't include it for Lock, Shock, and Barrel for The Nightmare Before Christmas set. Edited July 23 by JeanGreyForever Quote

I just remembered that Iron Heart, when she shows up in Doomsday/Secret Wars, is powered by Mephisto energy because she made a deal with the devil... and they'd have to address that in the movie likely without Mephisto showing up. It might also be a gender-specific thing to differentiate from other characters in that costume but of a different gender. Is Iron Heart confirmed to appear in these movies? That's so crazy to me that they picked her over Captain Marvel. Quote

If you mean bottom right that looks like part of the spare arm rather than a Minifig to me. The extra head is there, bottom left under its foot, the whole base is flipped. I’m not sure this is a prototype, just looks like a different image of the same set to me. Quote
