I would imagine that these 27 characters are considered the movies 'leads' I'm more interested in characters and backstories than powers, and of those 27 characters you know how many I'm interested in seeing again? John Walker and Magneto, that's two. (And I'd rather have Michael Fassbender Magneto TBH.) Maybe Alexei and Bob for the entertainment value but that's pretty much it. There are other Marvel characters I'd like to see again (Star-Lord, Captain Marvel, Strange, Agatha, Loki) but none of them other than Loki seem to be in the movie. There's also a bunch of characters here that I very much DON'T care to see more of: Steve, Falconcap, the F4 and their stupid sexist 60s royalty fantasy, Thor after his last movie, Ant-Man after his last movie, Patrick Stewart Professor X (I dislike Professor X in general but the younger version is at least more entertaining), and Cyclops. He was by far the dullest of the X-Men in their 90s movies, why is he front and center here? It really feels like they've been scraping the bottom of the barrel. As for the Thunderbolts: If we get them at all, I'd expect LEGO to spread them out over several sets just because. Even if it's somerhing like one team member missing who you can only get by buying the most expensive set. That seems to be their M.O. lately. Edited July 15 by brickbride Quote

Hopefully Doomsday gets kids hyped for the X-men so we can start getting some stuff. It got my younger brother to start reading up on Cyclops and Magneto, at the least. 1 hour ago, brickbride said: I'm more interested in characters and backstories than powers, and of those 27 characters you know how many I'm interested in seeing again? Couldn't have said it better myself. Magneto sounds like he's going to go WILD in this movie, though like you I would have preferred Fassbender. And while I doubt they'll give him nearly as much screen time as his fan-favoritism should get him, "literal gods fighting to destroy universes and only-slightly-stronger-than-human John Walker is set up against insurmountable odds" is a great situation to drop the character (and thunderbolts as a whole) into. If marvel knew what they were doing, they'd parallel the endgame Steve-against-the-odds moment with the taco shield. I will say I'm interested to see Cyclops, Loki, Thor, and the other bolts again too. 1 hour ago, brickbride said: There's also a bunch of characters here that I very much DON'T care to see more of: Steve, Falconcap, the F4 and their stupid sexist 60s royalty fantasy, Thor after his last movie, Ant-Man after his last movie, Patrick Stewart Professor X (I dislike Professor X in general but the younger version is at least more entertaining), and Cyclops. Steve here is a half-measure of them wanting Chris Evens back to get people in seats but not wanting to admit Falconcap didn't work. I didn't hate the F4 movie but Reed especially didn't work for me, and that's pretty much the one you need to get right if you're going to pit them against Doom. I think the Russos are bringing back the good version of Thor but he was definitely marred by the last movie, and I never particularly cared about Ant-Man. Professor X is a character you're often meant to dislike- I imagine if they're doing Time Runs Out it'll be the same here with him intentionally destroying other universes to keep his doomed one alive a little longer- but at this point I think Patrick Stewart really needs to be done with the role. They already cashed the nostalgia ticket on his wasted role in Dr Strange 2 anyway. Only one I disagree on is Cyclops. From what I've seen of the movies they haven't done him justice- much like a number of the recent comics- but he's supposed to be THE X-man. If anything, it'd have been better if Professor X had died before this point in the timeline and Cyclops and Magneto now lead the remainder of the X-men in the Time Runs Out scenario. Putting him into the position of being the new leader of the X-men as the world literally crumbles around them would be an opportunity to make him shine. Quote

JeanGreyForever Posted July 16 Posted July 16 I find the MCU's misogyny more apparent than ever with this Doomsday poster. Failed heroes like Ant-Man and Falconcap get chance after chance, despite derailing two franchises. Thor isn't far behind and I doubt a Thor 5 is viable at this point. Yet, it's interesting how Captain Marvel doesn't get the same multiple chances as Ant-Man or Falconcap. Falcon's sidekick, whose name I couldn't even tell you to save my life, gets to be in the movie but not Ms. Marvel, Monica, or Miss America? None of these characters really took off but it's the double standard of the male ones getting to still be considered salvageable while the female ones are instantly scrapped which I find off-putting. In a cast of 27 cast members, note how the poster has just 5 women, not even 1/5 of the cast. Spoiler Steve and RDJ are both front and center, but the MCU's two most popular heroines, Black Widow and Wanda, were both unceremoniously killed off and neither have been brought back the way the two male characters I've named have been brought back. It's even worse for Wanda, since she has actual links to Doom and was easily the MCU's most popular character since Endgame and the only new one who really took off (Shang-Chi to a much lesser extent but the momentum for him seems to be completely dead now). And then we have the X-Men. Mostly known for their iconic female characters yet there's only one female X-Man on the team and she's not even a real X-Man but a villain. We got Mystique but no Jean, Storm, or Rogue. Let alone Kitty or Psylocke. I understand Anna Paquin has health issues so that explains the lack of Rogue but what excuse is there for Jean and Storm? That being said Spoiler Chris Claremont does claim Famke is back as Jean...but he also claimed Scarlet Witch and Psylocke are in it so I don't know how reliable he is. And some people have argued that since Sadie Sink's Jean will have a big role in Secret Wars, that they won't bring back Famke's Jean to avoid confusion. Yet, this confusion doesn't stop Tobey and Andrew from coming back and sharing screentime with Tom. It goes to show the annoying trend where the female actresses are considered replaceable, if not outright disposable, once they hit a certain age, while the male actors can be geriatric but keep getting comeback chances. How many times have we seen Hugh Jackman or Patrick Stewart in their so-called last outing now? From DOFP to Logan to MoM to D&W to this. Feige is going to have another thing coming if he's hinging the X-Men nostalgia and money shot all on Cyclops. A dud character in the movies who most audience members would only remember for being the third wheel in the relationship between Wolverine and Jean and getting cuckolded. Even the Insomniac video game is ditching Cyclops to start their X-Men universe with Wolverine and Jean. I think people forget that in the original trilogy of the FoX-Men movies, Cyclops is basically just a cameo in the 2nd and 3rd movies. Between Dudclops, flop stars like Ant-Man, Thor, & Falconcap, a non-existent Avengers team nobody has even met yet, plus two box office failures led by the Thunderbolts and FF, I don't know who Marvel is targeting with this cast of characters. No wonder they broke the glass in case of emergency for the two spoiler male characters/actors, since they're the only hype. Quote

BTW the new Falcon's name is Joaquin and Wanda's survival has been heavily hinted at (I think she might be in either this movie or the next but they can hardly put her on the poster), but other than those minor points, all of this so very much. The F4 movie was already sexist beyond belief, Captain Marvel really needs to be there if there's an intergalactic threat, and so does Monica Rambeau! I don't even like her but last time we saw her she crossed over to the X-Verse that also featured a lookalike of her mom! And while The Marvels maybe wasn't that great it was nowhere near Quantumania or Thor 4 terrible. Tiny Shuri on the poster is overshadowed by a big, burly dude. Sue is, as always, overshadowed by Reed. (That's basically her entire characterisation right here.) The Thunderbolts fare somewhat better but they're not really heroes, and as you've said the X-Men are all about Cyclops. Basically female heroes seem to no longer exist independently, only as attachments to men. And sonetimes not even that, i e. where's Shang-Chi's sister, the new leader of the ten rings? All valid questions otherwise, but for Wasp at least we do have an explanation since Evangeline Lilly has retired from acting. Sure, they could recast her, but they‘ll probably only do that after the big reset I‘m excited for Doomsday, but despite having a stacked cast there are still a lot of noteable gaps. We‘ll see how they handle that in the movie And there‘s still Secret Wars coming, so many of the missing characters could still show up there! Quote
RobbieHxC Posted July 16 Posted July 16 (edited) I think that even though the concept art featured the confirmed characters, there could be lots of unconfirmed characters who will make surprise appearances, eg Captain Marvel and Photon. How could they not be included since Photon is currently in the X-Men universe with Beast? Scarlet Witch is screaming out for a ressurection, which would surely be kept secret from marketing? Notably I do find it a shame that two of the three remaining original Avengers, the Hulk and Hawkeye, are not confirmed for the movie - just Thor. Nor is Nick Fury, although he wasn't in marketing for the last two Avengers movies either but made cameo appearances. Also with the return of Robert Downey Jr, surely War Machine should be around here somewhere? Edited July 16 by RobbieHxC Typo Quote

Marvel lost all rights to those when they made us pretend that Edward Norton and Mark Ruffalo are the same guy. Or William Hurt and Harrison Ford. Or Terrence Howard and Don Cheadle. And in the case of Rogue at least so much time has passed that her looking different should not be any kind of issue at all. Evangeline Lilly's appearance also varied between movies. Quote

So glad I’m not the only one disappointed at the complete lack of women in their X-Men lineup. I can understand not having Rogue due to Anne Paquin’s health issues and not having Kitty since Elliot Page transitioned (although I still think they should have either brought him back and just have Kitty transition too, brought back one of the other actresses who played the role before him, or recast the role). But no Storm and no Jean is completely ridiculous, especially when this is supposed to be cashing in Nostalgia for the original movies and they brought back Beast and Nightcrawler who were each only in one of those movies and Gambit who wasn’t in them at all. Since they use the same cast for Doomsday, seeing this guy as the leader of the X-Men would feel extremely weird to me. I haven't watched the original ones in full, but your description of Professor X is largely accurate to the comics aside from the fact that there are often major story arcs along the lines of that Magneto quote, where the X-men get tired of him keeping secrets and the like. Sometimes he is shown legitimately as a good teacher and father figure, but he fails often and his students call him out for his behavior when he does. Again I haven't watched the originals in full and from what I've seen of them cyclops comes across more as Professor X's stooge than his protege, but in the comics he's generally the field leader of the X-men (or, of their main team, sometimes there's like 5 teams). He is a hero who very keenly feels that the weight of his subspecies is on his shoulders and that his actions determine the future of his people (which has led to some worse stories for him where he ends up deciding his people's survival is more important than humanities, but for the character in general it's why he's so by-the-book- he knows the actions of him and his team will be scrutinized, he knows that Wolverine running around like an animal is not going to help the X-men's public image). About the female heroes in the MCU, I feel like it ultimately comes down to a lot of separate, smaller things that affect some of the individual characters who would otherwise have been in the movie. It's difficult to explain without spoilers, but I think there's a very obvious reason Spoiler Jean Grey's old actresses are not returning that has nothing to do with her sex, and at this point it's pretty clear characters like Spoiler Scarlet Witch are in the movie and just being kept secret. The only one that I think really isn't in the movie and has no obvious reason to be excluded is Storm. You've also got to remember that a lot of other heroes are weirdly absent- star-lord, vision, war machine, moon knight (the comic version you could easily just say would get powerscaled, but show moon knight isn't exactly netflix daredevil), Strange, Spider-Man, Hulk, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, etc. Much like with the female heroes, some of these have reasons (hawkeye is probably retired for good, and at least one of the people I mentioned is 100% in the movie and being kept secret like one of the female heroes), but some of them just... aren't here. I think a lot of this comes down to the failure to set up any sort of Samvengers team. Right now, it looks like his team is literally Sam, Falcon Junior, and Shang-Chi, which is just nothing. And I would hazard a bet Shang-Chi would have been left off too had it not been for DDC directing the previous iteration of this film and seemingly lobbying hard for the character. 17 minutes ago, psqidexslizer said: I am. I second that- it's great to see him in a real suit. Plus we've seen from the sonic movies of all things that James Marsden can actually emote as an actor (even alongside CGI constructs), so I really don't blame him for how he comes off in what I've seen him in as Cyclops. Mandalorianknight Posted July 16 Posted July 16 Welp- we should be getting Doomsday set images by the end of next week. I think there's a lot for them to clear up with them. Here are my final guesses, definitely more on the optimistic side but going off the one set we do have an excellent figure count for: New Avengerz tower: Comes with Doom, Steve Rogers, Captain Falcon, Shang-Chi, Gambit, Cyclops, Sentry, Yelena, Bucky, and Invisible Woman. $100 vehicle set: Spoiler Actually the New Avengers Quinjet. There's still been nothing about an evil avengers team with a dark quinjet- there's Doom's Cabal, but no indication they'd be using a quinjet or are even a big part of the film. They aren't in the leaked trailer or anything, and nothing about an evil Cap being a part of the cabal. New Avengers Quinjet: Includes John Walker, Red Guardian, Ghost, Thing, Human Torch, and Shuri. Brickheadz 5-pack: Doom, Thor, Reed, Cyclops, Yelena. Quote

JeanGreyForever Posted July 16 Posted July 16 8 hours ago, brickbride said: All of this. So very much. Where's Cassie and the Wasp if we HAVE to deal with Ant-Man again? Thanks, I think Joaquin was introduced in Falcon & Winter Soldier, but even as someone who watched that show when it debuted, I have zero memory of him. I've heard rumors about Wanda but I also remember MoM and D&W had a lot of leaks that never panned out. Does anyone remember Tom Cruise as Superior Iron Man in MoM? Also claims about Magneto showing up as Wanda's father. D&W also claimed Wanda would show up as Magneto's daughter and have a major battle with Jean on Alcatraz, based on X-Men: The Last Stand. So I'm skeptical about if Wanda will actually have a major role (or any role) in these upcoming movies. Leakers seem to insert her in a lot of speculation. It is weird how Captain Marvel was primed to be the most powerful Avenger and protector of the universe and now she's completely absent. Endgame set her up in this position and now when the Avengers are finally assembling again, there's no Captain Marvel in sight. I didn't care for Monica either. I remember reading that there was supposed to be a Disney+ show featuring her in the lead, set in the FoX-Men universe, but it was cancelled after The Marvels failed. I think Monica's role was cut out of Doomsday so she'll probably only appear to introduce the FoX-Men. Even in Thunderbolts, I feel like Ghost is just there for the sake of being there. Out of the main cast, she had the most minimal role in the Thunderbolts movie and you could cut her out without changing the plot. I don't see that being much different in Secret Wars. Like you said, they've cut out a lot of female characters like Wasp and Shang-Chi's sister. Shang-Chi was also a movie where virtually every supporting character was more interesting than the actual lead: his sister, his father, his best friend. Quote
hvader Posted July 16 Posted July 16 I'm actually crying bro they got me real excited for Hydra Cap for a moment… obviously not blaming the leakers too much just think it's incredibly funny. A red and dark gray quinjet would be incredible though, esp with Cyclops included. I'm still hyped Quote

Captain Marvel was supposed to be at the forefront of the MCU and the new Avengers team. Marvel's in a really tight spot where Black Panther had to be killed off, Captain Marvel failed to take off as a character, same with Faloncap, and Doctor Strange got hurt by MoM's critical reception (although he's still easily the most popular and viable character Marvel has left). Her being completely excluded from marketing pretty much tells us that Marvel has no faith in Captain Marvel as a character and there's been plenty of reports that Brie Larson is also tired of backlash and wants out. Whatever role she does end up with, I can't imagine it'll be very big now. But it's interesting how even after one billion dollar movie, and Marvel doing little to nothing in developing her character, that she's so easily removed but they won't do the same to Falconcap, who failed to shoulder even one movie and gave the first flop in the Captain America series. I don't think the MCU knows what to do with War Machine either. He's in the same spot as Falcon, where he's mostly known for being the sidekick of one of the main Avengers, but there's not enough interest in him as a character individually. Armor Wars was supposed to be a Disney+ show centered on him but that was cancelled, if I'm correct. Just now, hvader said: Unibricks on Instagram. I had a feeling Hydra Cap was just a false leak since Endgame had the same confusion too. 5 hours ago, psqidexslizer said: So glad I’m not the only one disappointed at the complete lack of women in their X-Men lineup. When Elliot Page transitioned, I remember he was still playing a female character in Umbrella Academy and willing to continue playing the character as female, but the showrunners wanted to transition the character to suit the actor. So I wonder if Elliot would have been willing to play Kitty as female as well. In Kitty's case, her character was always very queer-coded (like most of the X-Women) and is canonically bisexual. Since I think having a trans Kitty wouldn't be too far of a leap especially since the Doomsday X-Men don't seem to be the exact FoX-Men team from the previous movies, just variants of them. For Beast and Nightcrawler, I can see why they were brought back since even though they were only in one movie each, both of them were well received and praised for their comic accuracy. Whenever Marvel has gone back to make new merch for the FoX-Men movies, I've noticed they always make a point to include Beast and Nightcrawler. But the fact that they've dropped mainstays of the team like Jean, Storm, Rogue, Iceman, etc. is where this team's lineup just feels very jumbled. All the X-Men movie merchandise always makes a point of including Jean, Storm, and Rogue (Iceman admittedly is often snubbed) so that's why their omission here feels very out of place. Especially throwing in Gambit, who I still think is seriously miscast. There were early leaks (debunked now) that we'd see all the FoX-Men team members. Including the missing names I listed (Jean, Storm, Rogue, Iceman) as well as Angel, Colossus, Psylocke, and I think maybe Kitty or X-23. So basically all the core team members from the original movies. That made a lot more sense to bring them all back rather than just pick and choose. Quote
hvader Posted July 16 Posted July 16 (edited) Out of the rest of the characters, I’d really want: Sentry, Loki (not gonna happen), Gambit, Steve Rogers, Namor (not gonna happen I feel). One of the slots in the tower will go to Doom since he’s seemingly in all the sets Edited July 16 by hvader Quote
JeanGreyForever Posted July 16 Posted July 16 5 hours ago, brickbride said: Please not War Machine, he's even duller than Cyclops. Plus they'd need to get their continuity straight as to how long he'd been replaced by a Skrull and how this now affects him and everyone else, and I don't get the feeling that anyone's at all interested in revisiting that particular plot point. The latter, sure, like I've said. But Captain Marvel and Monica should play a significant role (given their powers and placement) and should therefore be prominently featured on the poster. Honestly? Like 90% of the nostalgia crowd will go: "Where's Wolverine?" The rest will be here for Magneto, Mystique, Rogue (who's not in it), maybe Jean Grey (who may not be in it), or Professor X. No-one's going to be clamoring for 90s movies Cyclops, thar's for sure. I don't expect Secret Invasion will ever be referenced ever again. That reminds me, they set up so much in making Riri Williams/Ironheart the new Iron Man and that's another new character who's conveniently disappeared now. Agreed. Captain Marvel and Monica are not characters who would need to be kept hidden the way Wanda would need to be. Same with Miss America, whose whole powerset revolves around the Multiverse. There's a whole movie on Wanda trying to steal her power, so why wouldn't a new multiverse movie not have Doom want Miss America for the same reason? If they're not in the promotion, it's because their roles were probably cut down to as small as possible while still having the plot work. Exactly. I think people underestimate how much of the X-Men's appeal comes from Wolverine. He's Marvel's 2nd biggest character after Spider-Man. There's a reason that after Blade, the original Marvel movies centered on Wolverine/X-Men and Spider-Man and these two franchises really ushered in the modern age of comic book movies. All the movies starring Wolverine were considered successes, outside of his first Origins movie (X-Men, X2, The Last Stand, The Wolverine, DOFP, Logan, D&W). And that also shows how much goodwill there was towards the character that even with a failure of a solo movie, audiences were still willing to give him repeated attempts. Meanwhile all the X-Men movies that lacked Wolverine as a lead (First Class, Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix) failed. I don't think Feige realizes that bringing back the X-Men without Wolverine is something that audiences have not accepted and generally, the characters with the most screentime and appeal were the ones connected to him, like Rogue and Jean.
