Where’s my Venomised Anakin Skywalker?

The idea of a Lego Star Wars x Marvel crossover is really cool, but after 2024 getting yet another recoloured non-canon Millennium Falcon where the draw is the unique minifigures feels tiresome IMO, especially when we still haven’t seen a proper playscale Falcon since 2019. But maybe it will be more unique than it sounds.

What annoys me is there’s so much demand for stuff like the Fondor, Mantis etc. etc. that Lego routinely ignore and claim they cannot possibly cover everything, but somehow there’s plenty of room for display slop, smart bricks, and non-canon stuff like this again. Not to mention the seeming lack of coverage for Ahsoka S2 which seems to have so much cool stuff in it that’s ripe for Lego representation.

All that said, I’m still looking forward to next year which is sounding like an improvement over this year, despite the recent disappointing details we’ve learned lately.

I also presume the Iron Falcon will be releasing next summer given how packed 1HY2027 already is. If that’s the case, maybe summer set details won’t be too far behind.

But seriously, even one Ahsoka S2 with Enoch would be enough for me.

To be fair they pretty much just sold a grey baseplate with the characters from the show on it last time, you're probably not missing any sets worth having

Soooooo

Poopy Hulk or the Grinch? Your call Lego.

I imagine this Marvellous creation will be released for the May 4th wave. As it’ll be both Star Wars day and the 15th Anniversary of Avengers 1.

Lego is really making anything but the TIE Avenger next year bruh (Day #472 of complaints)

I was trying to figure out what was going on with that figure, but man, it's really disappointing that we're getting 5 crossover figs and somehow Captain Industry Plant snuck in over Steve (and Luke!). You couldn't have done Captain Illum? I get War Machine if Iron Man is C-3PO, but the rest of this figure list is so weird. Hulkbacca makes sense, but you'd think Han would be his marvel doppleganger Star Lord, or someone connected to Hulk, not Spider-Man. They don't have a similar personality, powerset, or anything!

I think this is RTG S3 and the What If writers managed to get hired again. There's no other explanation for how Captain Carter snuck in again. I'm irrationally annoyed about this- it's such an overdone and annoying character and somehow they've managed to actually get her snuck into a different franchise. It's comical how hard they push her, a character that should never have been more than a single episode of the what if show. Aside from it being part of the continued loss of actual Steve Rogers Captain America content, there is a captain britain! There has been for decades!

Hey, you could always get a... Loki Vader? Doom Vader? out of it. (But yes, it's extremely frustrating that they refuse to give us a normal millennium falcon. It's been 16 years.)

Probably more to do with the Spider-Han pun.

I didn’t even mind Captain Carter until she hijacked what could have been an awesome 1606 episode. Just the Winter Soldier sequel to her story would have been fine, maybe even a third to cover Civil War I could give a pass to. But making her the main character of what was advertised and wanted as a kriffing anthology series was so annoying. Haley Atwell is a great actress but Captain Carter just sucks thanks to overexposure. This will be our 3rd Captain Carter variant while Deadpool and Daredevil only have 1.

It has to be Vader Von Doom right? Perhaps also Greedo Goblin. Should Boba Fett be Scorpion or Vulture? Or Kraven?

We might see after this weekend. There are rumours of a D23 trailer for both Ahsoka S2 and Starfighter.

I’d probably break a lot of rules if I truly expressed my thoughts on the iron falcon. I hope it’s fake, I doubt it is. Problem is is people will buy this pile of garbage so much so it’ll start a whole new theme. Probably get the bat falcon and AT BAT next year. This is the kind of stuff that genuinely makes me want to step back and stop collecting. Nobody is going to force me to buy it and trust me I won’t I wouldn’t even piss on the set if it was on fire it like someone else pointed out haven’t got a normal OT system falcon in forever. The finale of TboBF wasn’t covered when there were characters and things that would’ve been popular despite the shows mixed reception. They could’ve milked the bad batch and clone bros for years with 3 seasons worth of content. The Jedi games are one of the most popular SW games we’ve ever had and again there is an opportunity at some point to produce something from them. The franchise is so big and there is so much they could make and it would be well received but someone instead comes out with this? We haven’t had a count Dooku figure a major villain from 2 films and CW for forever, they pump out Vaders like I don’t know what but while he is the most iconic villain there are others.

even the smaller sets, like battle packs, micro fighters, cheap little duel sets or location sets they are just non existent what is the gateway for kids in to the theme now? They used to make 3/4 a year and would all sell well at a reasonable price.

Cant do anything except vote with my wallet and carry on boycotting this crap but obviously in the minority otherwise why do they still keep making these stupid sets

Kinda weird there‘s no villain included!

That isn't remotely the weirdest thing about this. 😅

I'm all for weird stuff, truly: the mechs, micro fighters, rebuild the galaxy... It's fun stuff, accessible for children. Gives us some unique figures and pieces.

But this is commercial slop. Those themes sell well, what if we did a crossover? It's almost insulting, it's a Lego version of the Picard "use the force, Harry"-meme...

And like others have pointed out: it's not like we've ran out of ideas for good Lego SW sets either. Andor had two playsets. 2. We have this slop before a TIE Avenger. 😭

It‘s like the annoying Glup Shitto slop. Mildly amusing at first, but it‘s become overused slop to the point main characters are referred to as Glup Shittos and it‘s so unfunny now it physically HURTS.

Reminds me of my last train ride to Germany. Glup shitto doesn't refer to just random extras, it refers to any character star wars fans make a big deal out of that sound like gibberish to normal people, Zeb Garazeb is a glup shitto, Stinky Rotta is a Glup Shitto, Gungi is a glup shitto. If the glups bring you joy embrace it but supporting cast monster man from a decade old cartoon show is always a glup.

Also, in the 2020s I don't think it's overused to refer to a marvel/star wars crossover as commercial slop. Everything now is one of those cringe TeeFury shirts where Mario is dressed up as Batman or something. Post Ready Player One it's kinda a big issue where studios make adverts for all the IPs they own instead of anything creative. Disney doing Star Wars/Marvel stuff is very Space Jam 2 and that is the definition of commercial slop

One set a year isn't too bad, but it ties into the overall problem of there being too many subthemes. I think the gingerbread AT-AT is a cool set, the Christmas Bespin duel just sounds unnecessary to me  :shrug_confused:

Even as a kid I didn't like to mix licensed themes, not sure who this is for.

I can't and won't criticize additional sub-themes just for the sake of it. Execution remains the key factor. If it's a well thought out set that comes with some attractive qualities and even delivers great value on top of all that, that's great in my eyes. Even if not, it's only a drop in the ocean compared to the biggest offenders out there.

I can see why you feel this way. We get enough regular AT-ATs, so getting a special one doesn't take away anything from it. While the Duel on Bespin, at least for the time being, is based on something unreasonably rare, so it's mere existence is much harder to justify.

It's first and foremost for the casual crowd which tends to Impulse buy stuff first and ask questions later. Because it sure as hell ain't about true Lego Star Wars fans who didn't ask about any of this whatsoever.

It gets even worse when you consider the fact how much longer it has been since the last playscale OT themed Falcon released. Spoiler: it's been 84 years. Give or take ~70 years.

This is what's tremendously bothering me as well. We, the fanbase, can be quite good at finding excuses for Lego's design decisions and business models. While it basically gets continually harder to strike a good balance in between the army of individually released properties is true, their persistence to keep throwing more and brand new sub-themes at us left or right is their crusade... not ours. Yes, they may have good reasons to even do so in the first place. There have to be enough people who purchases all this stuff in the first place. Otherwise they would have reversed ship a long time ago. And who knows how much the Mouse House factors into all these decisions. But still... The system scale slots getting butchered and cannibalized like there's no tomorrow is completely out of control at this point.

One can only hope, I suppose. I need some positive leaks to lighten the mood yet again.

I couldn't agree more with your message even if I tried... or even like to admit that I did. The incredibly irritating inflational speech is among the biggest annoyances in 21st century communication. Like you said, if you repeatedly have to say something that is meant to be serious (sorry/thanks) and should convey some actual weight, it loses all meaning rather quickly. It becomes like a stupid gag you can stick on the fridge or something. I think, I only used the term "slop" for the outstanding Smart Play™ sets and come on... If that can't be considered slop, what possibly can? :head_back:

Yeah, the Glup Shitto term should be reserved for absolute background characters (you may or may not know the name of) with very limited screen time. Someone you have to check Wookipedia for to get any grasp of the character's origin or something like that. Certain Cantina Aliens are Glup Shittos, yes. Sebulba, on the other hand, is not. As for main characters, I don't even...

I don't actually travel a lot with the highly reliable Deutsche Bahn, but when I do, it more often than not becomes insufferable having to listen to all the stuff people have no inhibitions of telling out loud in hearing distance of total strangers. The principle of privacy has suffered a lot in this world. :vader:

We will get our glorious TIE Avenger, it just gonna takes some time. If I had to take an uneducated guess, 2028 sounds about right. You heard it here first. :purrr:

If I had to apply a matching metaphor for this matter it would be about cockroaches. No matter how many times you flush them down the toilet, they always manage to creep back up on you.

Halfway there. I've got two Santa Vader's (2014 & 2020), Beach Vader and the 20th anniversary Vintage Vader. Can only dream about any Chrome figures. Would love to add the Bacta Tank Vader to my collection someday, though.

Oh, as things stand right now, I would rather volunteer for a colonoscopy than getting this set. And yeah, I remember writing about this very topic in here not too long ago. If I can manage to find it, I ought to be pretty proud to add this newest entry (in addition to the latest and greatest UCS Falcon) to the long list... not.

Yup- I know they've only been around for a few months, but it is concerning to see that second wave scuttling in nonetheless, especially since wave 1 was hit with early retirement. Actually- does anyone know if they're still retiring early in the US, or if the listings are just being refreshed for global release?

Ah, I forgot about sweater vader from 2020. I used to have Bacta Vader before selling the castle- he's certainly a unique minifigure.

It's wild how difficult they're making it to just get a normal falcon. There will be 3 falcons on shelves next year and none of them will just be a normal system falcon. Much like the Dark Falcon made me look back more fondly on the TROS falcon for at least being the right color, the Iron Falcon is making me look back fondly on the Dark Falcon for at least including some Visionaries/EU figs like Jedi Vader from ROTJ Infinities and Darth Jar Jar from... well, from the memes.

To be fair to lego, these are all different markets:

The display slop is for adults who don't buy normal sets because they're scared of minifigures. I used to think this couldn't possibly be a large market, but I've now met a number of people who buy a bunch of the display slop sets but view any standard sets as "the ones for children"

The smart sets are... an abomination, but they're also meant for a different demo, that being young kids.

The Fondor and Mantis's opponents aren't the smart sets or display slop demographic wise, they're sets like the Lambda or Sandcrawler. Now you can make the argument that we should be getting more sets like the lambda and sandcrawler and less display slop and smart slop, (I'm using slop so much specifically because of @BrickBob Studpants, though I do agree with him that it's getting overused), but these types of sets are meant for different demographics from eachother.

She was fine in her one episode of what if and as a Multiverse of Madness cameo, but like you say the issue is that they turned her into the main character of what's supposed to be an anthology show without one. Also that because of how hard they pushed her it's becoming one of those things where she's now more well known than the real Captain Britain.

That's a better name than just Vader Doom, I was trying to figure out how to do it. Kraven is probably the closest match for Boba, but I kind of wish we instead had Spider-Mando and Venom Fett.

If I had a nickel for every time lego released a set that sounds like it came from misreading a common eurobricks comment, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

I've been watching the Ninth Jedi show and am about halfway through now, and it's disappointing that it won't get any sets, but if Maul doesn't there's no way it will. It's a shame as I'd put it up there with Maul in terms of a show that somehow manages to go pound for pound with andor in terms of exploring morality. The start is pretty basic and kind of comes off as a long homage to the saga films, and there certainly are a lot of elements of that, but towards the end of the first episode you start to see that that's not the case.

Especially with the villain- Nawaam initially looks like a Vader on the surface, but really he is the most interesting antagonist to come out of any disney era film or show. They did a great job making a force-wielding villain that is very much not a sith, and differentiating him from the sith. I was interested from the moment the trailer gave him a blue saber- since in this universe saber color depends on the will of the user- and predicted what his end goal for the galaxy was, but I wasn't expecting such an interesting story for what he's trying to do for himself as a person.

Though now that I think about it I wonder if lego would have ever made sets for a show where the teenage girl protagonist

Visions in general has A LOT of set potential, but yeah, it‘s too niche when even some live-action and canon animated shows get absolutely zilch :sadnew: I enjoyed TNJ a lot, even though nothing will ever beat the twist in the original short.

Slop is the way. (This is the slop?)

I can understand more not doing visions stuff because it's an anthology set in a bunch of different universes, so it'd be tough to choose what to do without knowing ahead of time what would get more focus in the future, but it's more frustrating when Ninth Jedi gets a dedicated series.

The original short's twists were still the best, but the slow burn of realizing Nawaam

I don't know about any regional EOL specifics, but let's just hope this second wave is one of those things that would have happened no matter how much the first one failed. If there's no downtime come fourth 2028, I shall be legitimately concerned about the so-called "biggest innovation since the invention of the minifigure".

Well, it's not a particular interesting Vader variant to have. But interesting to see you guys coming through with selling entirely owned sets of yours. I could never manage to do that with Lego Star Wars... at least not as far as my precious plastic puppets are concerned.

The RTG stuff ain't mine in terms of wanting to own them as well, but at least those things, like you said, have some... finesse and creative spark to it. They're fun for those who want it. And yeah... that Jedi Vader won't be forever able to escape my grasp... fantastic looking fig.

Now I'm fully aware we can literally just cover the bases of the Star Wars X Marvel sets and it's genuinely foolish to prejudge something or someone, but yeah... I have a bad feeling about this by principle. It's the last and certainly least thing I could muster up some excitement right now.

Too unrealistic, there are no buildable characters.

 How could I forget the buildables.

oh and the compulsory Batman in every set.

maybe one more mash up that I forgot in honour of the f1 speed champions line where they sell 12 of the same car with different colours - 12 Jedi starfighters each with different Jedi and colour including in true Lego fashion a minimum of 3 obi wans and 3 anakins each in there blue/red/yellow/green and any other colour I’ve forgotten.

I hate this combo idea so much. Probably have a Batman hulkbuster and an iron mobile.

I didn’t even think about all the Harry Potter possibilities either ffs

My initial reaction about the Iron Falcon was something along the lines of "Is this really where we're at right now?" probably similar to some of you all as well.

Upon thinking more on it, this is part of the issue I have with the direction LEGO is heading when it comes to their non-display focused offerings (I have opinions on their adult display stuff, but that's a whole separate thing).  I don't have any issue with them experimenting and trying new stuff - I think that's where LEGO's greatest innovations have come from!  If in the 1970s, they had stuck with the Homemaker style figures, rather than introducing the minifigure, things would be dramatically different today.  Bionicle basically saved the company from self-destructing in the 2000s, and that was a totally new innovation.  The mini-doll and Friends has proven to be one of LEGO's best selling themes ever, still going strong after 15+ years, something that very few themes can claim to have done.  Even Star Wars itself was quite a bit of a leap, jumping into licensed themes for the first time, and look at their brand portfolio now, 25+ years later!

So in a vacuum, I think things like the Smart Brick, or this type of crossover set are very "LEGO" at heart, in terms of being a bit silly and different than what we're used to.  My issue is that none of this stuff is actually affordable for kids, who SHOULD be the target market of these more innovative products.  Look at every example I've listed above, all of that stuff was accessible without putting down a huge amount of money.  Friends and SW had smaller sets that were affordable with allowance money.  I'm pretty sure the first wave of Bionicle cans cost like $7 each or something.  I realize that LEGO has always been expensive (I didn't really realize how great we had it in the 2000s/2010s when prices were really not increasing year-to-year very much) but this Falcon feels like a total cash grab when they could just as easily do a crossover set that isn't going to be nearly $200.

Same with smart play - Mario proved that technology integration with LEGO can work fine, but the pricing is absurd.  The cheapest smart brick set is $70, and that's just one set with one smart brick.  In order to get a better play experience, you're going to probably want a second set and possible a second smart brick, which is going to run at least another $50, or $90+ if you want the X-Wing/Falcon.  Contrast that with Mario, the starter set is $50 and still gives enough to have a play experience.  Plus, the add-on sets don't necessarily require the tech integration.  I can buy some of the locations or the Mario Kart sets without owning the Mario/Luigi and still get something out of it, whereas the smart brick is sort of a critical piece of those sets.

It's really tough for me to not look at stuff like this as a blatant cash grab when they've shown with other themes/sets that it IS doable, they're just choosing not to.  Sell the sets at that price, but put a smart brick into each of them and I'd be on board.  Or, drop the price by 20% and sell a smart brick + charger kit for $12-15.  Not doing something like that just feels greedy to me.  Yes, they're a business, and yes, at their core, they exist to make money, but I think that by pricing kids out of the market, they're not only shrinking their future customer base, but going against a lot of what has made them such a cool company.

Does any of this affect me directly?  Not in the slightest.  This is just my two cents on the matter.

So back to 2027 and I’m not talking about any crossover bs now I’m pretending it doesn’t exist.

i too am worried about a lack of Ahsoka S2 they said early 2027 which could be anything up to May/June time. Unless all the sets they have are “spoiler” territory I fear that we aren’t getting any. From the rumors it sounds like we are getting a lot of possible NR vs IR so Lego could easily produce a whole bunch of a wings, TIEs based off of them (already got a x wing and e wing) granted who do they put in them figure wise considering how much we have coming in the first half of the year even without the Bounty hunter pursuit and ewok village which I’m guessing is next summer as well it just feels like there are fewer slots for them. I know there is only so much room on the shelves but I always feel like priority should be given to new releases the new films got 3 sets which is good if it does well I’m certain that it’ll get more and I also know it’s anniversary year so again some sets dedicated to that.

it feels frustrating that every year we get more possible content but fewer opportunities to exploit them and then when you throw in the constant gimmick sets it just reduces it further. for a good 6/7 years they could pump out 4 battlepacks a year and multiple micro fighters all without ever really truly running out of ideas. It’s only when the sequels finished before a lot of the new content dropped did it feel like they were running out of ideas but now I think they could easily again pump 4 out a year and be good for years

To be fair they pretty much just sold a grey baseplate with the characters from the show on it last time, you're probably not missing any sets worth having

Some of the Ahsoka sets were quite nice, imo. Also, if a build does not meet my standards I can modify it; it's Lego after all. If a minifig like Enoch is missing, there is not much I can do.

I personally hope for more Night Trooper variation, Enoch, the Peridea bandits, and the Nightsisters. It might well be that they never come. Or it might take a while, the first Night Trooper and Thrawn came almost a year after the episode had aired, the BP took almost two years. Does not seem like Lego is in a rush...

And yes, I fid it annoying that an Iron C3PO comes before an Enoch, or Wat Tambor, or a Senate Guard etc.

Perhaps. But 2028 is both the Clone Wars 20th and 25th anniversary. We stand little chance against that inevitable onslaught.

You are right about this one. Although the anniversary argument genuinely grows more thin by the day. As you could almost pull and play this card every year, when you can have any anniversary taking place. Is 2029 a better bet? Maybe... because TPM is very neglected by Lego these days. But it will be also LSW 30th anniversary. 2030 will be ESB 50th anniversary etc. As soon as the TIE Avenger sees the Lego light of day, it will almost definitely coexist with some movie's anniversary.

Yes, exactly. It's a complete failure on so many levels. This what happens when a big company is doing too well for their own good. And with no signs of stopping anytime soon, they don't feel the need to keep listening to fan feedback and just stop giving a damn. They're completely out of touch with the people that ensured their ongoing success in the first place. Or even people that supported and saved them  facing bankruptcy back then. Too many cooks (sub-themes) spoil the broth (balance). And it's been my personal conviction they could easily release four Battle Packs per year like the good old times and given the plethora of content available by now, probably wouldn't be running out of good ideas for quite some time. Heck, like I keep on saying, I would already be content with just two good and affordable Battle Packs every year.
