Granted, we‘re taking about SW here, but look at the Marvel list for next year and tell me they‘re not listening to us fans at all  And while the SW list isn‘t quite as good, there are still a lot of sets on there that people have requested for a long time! Yeah, the BP situation could clearly be improved, but we‘ve seen many ups and downs with them over the almost 20 years they’ve existed anyway.

The rumor of Star Wars crossing over with Marvel has awoken me out of my month-long hibernation.

What. What the what. I have choice words that only conscience forbids me from using… This is dumb. This is stupid. Nobody wants this.

On the positive, there will be uber-detailed figures whose sole novelty is their sheer absurdity, and the playset Falcon—whether the "smart" or 2019 build—will see a granular upgrade. Meanwhile the set will shelf-warm for a year-and-a-half at least until it is snatched up by prospectors and collectors alike who will gloat about their rare, exclusive figures—which will make TLG enough profit from this lousy concept that they pursue another recolour with new Marvel x Star Wars variants, undoing the novelty of this Iron Falcon and clogging shelves with unwanted and unnecessary stock.
There are so many things that Star Wars fans want, that LEGO fans want—the Dark Falcon and its crew of niche characters is a great example! There is no need to create yet another concept that speaks to fanfiction over resonating narrative.

In respect to things beyond LEGO, Star Wars is not a genre or filter. It's a mythology which deserves the respect and integrity Disney has hacked away. Over a decade later, this is the result, and to both the means and end of this venture I say good riddance.

That was probably my second annoyance with this set. I pray this doesn't mean another Star Wars x Marvel set is on the way… but who am I kidding?  It's an annoying trend in LEGO Marvel and Ninjago that while villains have arguable cooler designs, heroes tend to sell better. (Not that you don't know this, of course; you're already everywhere on this site, lol.)

 

My third annoyance is that Stark as Han Solo and Rhodey as Lando (preferably vice versa though) is the perfect crossover—why, it's one I made randomly back in '22. Just swapping in Vision as C-3PO works better.

Late reply, and likely the only one I'll do this time (although it's worth noting your list of events in the Dune books has officially scared me from the franchise), but I want to point out how the busts' small size make them a perfect desktop companion (like the Vader bust, which now sits beside me whenever I write posts on Eurobricks). Even the helmets are just ever so slightly too big for my liking.
I still dislike the busts, and they're definitely overpriced… but I think I get it now.

Completely agreed. This speaks to a larger point of how giving a bigger voice to a society who is as illiterate as the ones before hasn't been a net positive… Now words are spitted out as if a command was triggered. (Which makes the hatred of AI hilarious when people's interactions are more predictable than ChatGPT.) Again, a larger discussion that isn't fit for a LEGO forum but I wanted to touch upon it nonetheless.

For myself, I've only once allowed myself to use the term "slop" for the 18+ and buildable characters. Most of the time with those sets, I find there is a lack of creative inspiration—"spark," one could say. Straightforward is sometimes allowable with playsets when it offers other artistic offerings such as minifig designs, but if there's nothing novel with the build when that's not only the sole focus but the only offering, why offer it at all? The one reason I can think of is money via completionists or the random compulsion of John Q Public; thus the sets come across as general nonsense that's been shoved out rather than curated.
To your point, though, I generally dislike the 18+ serieses since I prefer playsets, so perhaps I have indeed misused "slop" there.

 

In reply to the 5+ Jedi Starfighter discussion; my only experience with 5+ has been the Luigi's Pizza vs Fire Truck Go-Karts set. (Long live the Aslume.) The only difference was with the instructions, which were in the style of the 4+ "show yo hands" manuals. I'd say that the build's detail was on-par with any other I've built.
The T-Rex River Escape seems simplistic, although that might be on account of the demolition play-pattern advertised on the box front and large mold included.
The 120-piece count concerns me more than the age demographic. (Although like with Luigi's Pizza Kart, I'll likely build it from the box than flip through an obtuse instruction manual.) The couple rumors of fig and piece counts imply a $20, decent-yet-overpriced LSW set—not $30. I'm curious whether LSW designers will try to engineer the set toward the young audience; again, I can see no true precedent within the previous 5+ sets, but LSW design seems to have its own line of consistency sometimes.
