Hello, Technic, Mindstorms & Model Team people. I asked this question over at the Town forum (I'm trying to motorize some Fairground sets), but I think it might be better suited for his forum. Is there a difference between the technic-styled battery box (the one with the two sliding DBG panels for the battries) and the system-styled one? I only own technic-styled battery boxes, and I don't know if the system boxes give the motors different speeds or what. I already know there's an expensive system battery box that lets you regulate the speed, but I'd rather regulate the speed by using different cog sizes than shell out around 70CAD for a battery box. -
The right forklift for every circumstance. My latest build has been commissioned by a german leading pallet truck and forklift manufacturer. I've built the entire line up of its truck range plus three different warehouse scenarios: unload/upload, storage and picking scene. Every scene is fitted with the right forklifts. The three different subjects are the advertising campaign of the company and in these days my work is featured on many logistic and transportation specialized magazines. It's been very challenging and even funny building all the pallet trucks and forklifts and the company has been really satisfied by the work. Below few photos. Hi there, as most collectors know, the grey era boxes were redesigned in 1989. But I don't know if all sets from the 1989-1990 lineup were affected, therefore I need your help. So far, I found 1989 versions of the following sets: 7813 Shell Tanker waggon (sorry, no picture yet) 7817 Crane Waggon all sets from 7850 to 7861 7865 Motor 7867 Light posts The 1989 version can be recognized by looking at the copyright date, which contains two years: the first one states the initial release (e.g. 1980, 1983 or 1985). The second year is always "1989". [7864 power supply is a special case, it exists in three different box versions: 1980 and 1982 without copyright, and the final one with 1990 copyright] So, the question is: do the following sets also exist in a 1989 version? 7823 Container crane depot 7835 manual road crossing 7839 car transport depot 7866 remote controlled road crossing If any of you has one of these sets with a 1989 copyright, a picture would be great. kind regards, Christian

Hello, I am trying to make a LEGO chessboard which closes in half forming a box and I am not sure which part to use as a hinge. Ideal for my build would be a part similar to a hinge plate 1x4, but with the hinge turning in different angle. Something like two 1x2 bricks connected with a hinge at the bottom forming a 1x4 brick when opened . But as far as I know, there is no part like that. Only solution that comes to my mind is to somehow use bricks with side studs to attach plate hinges, but I think it would not be pretty. How would you solve this problem? I guess there must be a solution for making a simple box. Thank you.

Hi everyone, I have been building for a while now and I haven't noticed any instructions for a simple 4 output gearbox using no transmission parts. Now everyone I have come up with a solution, here we present to you a simple 4 output transmission system that has 1 motor input. If anyone is interested please let me know so that I can guess if it is worth making instructions. Feel free to ask questions and follow the discussion for updates. I'm selling some empty set boxes, and someone has asked if I can ship to them. Problem is, the boxes themselves are some of the larger UCS sized boxes. How would I go about shipping them?

Hello once again :) I currently have a ll my boxes stacked but I want to hang them on my office wall to clear the table they stand on. Does anyone know a good way to do this without damaging the boxes? Thank you for your help in advance :)

Finally! This is the Mail Box! I took quite some time off from my last creation, and now I finally realized what was in my hand for quite some months. This yellow building is my latest modern architecture creation, and clearly, it is the place where you post your letters and get other mailing services, the post office! Many people would use up most of the inches for a corner building design, but I want to reclaim the space for the people. How about a negative building? I decided to remove the walls along the pavement, and create a nice, welcoming semi-outdoor space. Then the building will start to "climb" onto the remaining walls, as if they are inserted into the planes. I used grey for the horizontal box indicating that this is the public area. You can do your mailing at the counter or get help. You can also buy postcards and other mail products. The above is the black box, which is the office, the staff-only place. You can post your letters outside. Note the local and air mailboxes! The blue one is stamp vending machine. Buy, stick and post! On the other side of the yellow wall is the loading bay, and you can see things are just scattered around, with parcels pending delivery...the other side is the lift shaft, with a workable lift! The mail car parks here, and ready to be loaded and go! The first floor is the office where the postmen sort the letters. Looks like they need to have OT today... The second floor is where the manager sits. You can also find special delivery section here. They are brainstorming about how to deliver these silver bricks. Who is that artist? He is the designer for the post products, like the first-day-of-issue! The computer? For the drones! Yes, the drones! With these little robots, speed delivery will be really...speedy. No need to wait for any man or car to send your urgent letters! Hope you enjoy this! Now start posting!

My eighth entry for ABS Builder challenge. This was a really fun build to make, especially all the different chocolates. I tried to go for a rather rich, dark color-scheme, which I think ended up looking quite nice. The dark red seed part is used 40 times. More pictures on Brickbuilt Thanks for looking, C&C welcome

That's actually how it arrived. Flimsy cardboard, no protection at all. Any idea what I should do about this? This is a hassle I really didn't need :(

This is a challenging task to me -- to explain what is Chinese New Year to non-Chinese. To put it in short, the Chinese New Year in 2014 starts on January 31. It is the Year of the Horse. (For your reference, 12 animals take turn to represent a particular year.) Chinese people would like to hang red banner, with words of luck/ fortune/ etc, on walls. I am no exception but I rather make it with LEGO but not ordinary paper... The Chinese character is "LUCK" in English. Another custom is the presentation of a candy box. Chinese New Year is a big festival and it is a high time for children to take as many candies as they wish. The Chinese character on the cover of the candy box is "HORSE" in English. Before I place candies into the box, instead I put some pearl gold bricks in the middle. Chinese people would hope to make a big fortune in the coming year and so they would like to see gold elsewhere in this festival. In the meantime, I also put 4 LEGO tangerines. In the Chinese language, the word "tangerine" sounds the same as "luck". Thank you for watching. Wish everyone healthy and fruitful in the coming year!!! -
Over the past years, TLG rarely make newly molded plates for one individual set (the last one seems to be Scorpion Pyramid). They only leave bricks for kids to build and play solely, and we may additionally buy the basic plates: asphalt roads, green grassland or blue sea. At the same time, there is something "large and plastic" that TLC keep producing for years until today--- buckets, which are mostly used in starter sets and the current theme "Junior". Decade ago, I can remember that most other brick buckets of other brands have studs on their cover, which can be the base for child to build things on. I'm curious about why modern Lego boxes are seldom used in multiple ways, especially being the plates. They buckets are simply toy boxes, which means you can only use it to store toys. Even if there are plates included sometimes, the plates still have nothing to do with the bucket itself. Here are some similar Lego toys that have plates with product design, as I can remember. If there is something missing, please inform me here. My First Lego Set: The predecessor of curret Junior series. The bottom boxes are made of cardboard, only the cover is made of plastic brick plate. The example pics also show how can we play with the covers. Even though Junior has no brick-related container designs, surprisingly the starter covers were made in 2013. Racers miniturbo and fold-out series: the road plate is folded in the box. Consumers can open the plate and then fold it back to a cube. I wonder if they can be used in minifigure-scale City layouts, though I don't have such information. Thomas at Morgan's Mine: the bricks and Thomas the train are inside the mine, which is simply the whole product with a paper coat. Speaking of Thomas, there is a not-so-glad-to-hear competitor, MegaBloks, who now owns many Thomas sets using such kind of product design: Bridge&Train: the products simple make the trains under a cube bridge. The bridge can be used in different ways. Bucketes with Trails: the trails are molded on the boxes. Not only you can build things on the boxes, but you can make a train route in different heights and layouts. There could be some reasons why TLC isn't active in such kind of design. Practically, maybe general buckets use plastic that are harder than normal Lego bricks, so TLC can't massively producs such kind of brick covers. Or theoritically, the designers might think that using the buckets as plates or part of big buildings would be inappropriate for children to learn how to play bricks. But in economic aspects, I don't think having a playable boxing/package is a bad thing. What do you guys think?

Hi all, I'm sure there's another topic about this somewhere, apologies if there is, and if this needs to be moved that's fine. Anyway, I picked up the coporate alliance droid tank and it's now sitting at one of my shelves at home, why?- as soon as I had brought it and had taken it home there was a slight rip on the side of the box, my camera isn't working at the moment so I haven't got any pictures but where the tabs are on the box, the rip is below that. Anyway, I'm not going to take the risk of opening it just in case some the figures are missing, then again, it could just be a small tear... The question is though should I return it or should I open it? I mainly got the set for Jango Fett and it would be a shame if he wasn't there because someone had taken him out. Has this hapened to anyone before?

Hi guys, I want to share with you how I store my trains. I think this is a good solution as the black plastic boxes protect engines and wagons, can be stacked and cost less than 3 Euros. I use a 11 liter SAMLA black box container with bubble wrap and lid, that fits perfectly 1 train set. For its internal size it can contains the entire Maersk Train set or other sets with 4 wagons, like PF Red Cargo Train.

Hi, hope it's ok to start a new topic about this but I searched a didn't find a suitable, current thread related solely to trains. The best PF battery threads are several years old now and are mostly geared toward Technic. I'm mulling over whether to get the 8878 Rechargeable Battery Box (US$ 50) or use the 88000 Battery Box (US$ 13 and included in many sets) and then use rechargeable batteries in that. I have a young child so I don't want to use LiPo rechargeables in 88000 (because of possible safety issues) but from what I've read, Lego has protection circuitry built into their 8878 LiPo Rechargeable Battery Box. If I go with the 88000 then those 3rd generation Eneloop NiMH rechargeables seem to be the way to go. I don't really mind swapping out batteries but they only deliver 7.2v. Apparently Lego claims that their 8878 Rechargeable Battery Box delivers 7.4v so that seems to be a selling point but is it noticeable in any way? What are your thoughts on this? What do you use for your PF trains? Do you use both 8878 and 88000 with NiMH rechargeables and do you notice any performance differences between the two? Personally I'm not planning on having any monster-long trains or hills but who knows what the future has in store? Ok, thanks in advance, Joe

If I'm not mistaken, that's practically the entire collection, minus the Imperial Ship. 7 SETS and 27 minifigures. Wow, I'm curious to see how much this will fetch!
