[Poll] Which one is the better bluecoat officer?

Tricorne version. -
I got me this set at nearly 50 % off in Toys r Us, taking advantage of an extremely rare opportunity to stack 2 promotional discounts: I look forward to modding it to become a proper elven or forestmen home.

Where is that? I'd love to stumble across a shop that has old sets like that. -

You won't get rich on these sets. But you can look up how much the 2009 sets go for in new condition today on Bricklink to get an idea of what you can expect. -
I'd actually like to see modern versions of the BSB and SES. Most of all this, yeah. It just seems so damn lazy and unnecesary to have the sails be almost exactly the same as last time. And why can't they give us "neutral" sails just with stripes and no skulls on them? There are seperate pirate flags on the ships anyway and they're filled with pirate crews, so it's not as if the children will be confused in any way. The ships back in the days weren't always great; plenty of them were far worse in design than The Brick Bounty. But they were different both in shape, design and, most importantly, colours. Give us that back!

I much agree with this, though I think we're more likely to see a ship (if anything at all). A modern version of the Imperial Trading Post would be amazing.
-
That's pretty great. Innovative design.

You make it sound as if European Bricklink stores deliberately use underhanded tactics to cheat you out of money. Shipping from Europe simply is more expensive than from USA, especially overseas. Nothing clandestine about it. As dr_spock mentions, you could just PM the vendor and ask for a shipping quote before buying, if the store does not list it.

Sorry about the late reply, I didn't see your question untill now... Actually, upon further consideration, I now believe this new Treasure Island is slightly better than Loot Island. I like that the baseplate (even though it's a weird one) gives the old set a bigger presence and it's nice that both factions get a flag - but most everything else is a bit better done in the new one. And 2/3 minifigs are superior in the new version

Thanks for the tip! I checked their Danish website and lo and behold: the sets were listed there as well, as exclusives. I guess that solves the mystery, though I can't understand why LEGO couldn't tell me that when I asked. Oh well, I guess this means that I might as well just take advantage of double VIP points and order it directly from their site - as my hopes of ever getting them at a good price in BR is slim to none...

I hate to be nitpicking here, but you do notice that the spa has a hot/cold thermostat for the temperature of the water? Not very medieval...

It's an old torso that's the issue for me, one I wouldn't expect them to make any more of: ...but the weird thing is that even though my order says it's waiting to be re-stocked, it can still be bought from B&P.
-
Okay, thanks for the info. I think I'll give it to the end of the week before contacting them, since it's a recent order.
-
Does anyone know how long it usually takes when something in an order is "Waiting for new stock"? I ordered a bunch of stuff from Bricks & Pieces some days ago, but 1 single item was out of stock (in spite of it still being order-able from the site)... and now I don't know how long my order will be in limbo.

Truly amazing. It's the kind of build I dream about ever being able to do.

I too have experienced plenty of quite annoying issues with their site many times; shopping cards dissapearing, searches taking you to the main page, region randomly changing to British or American, etc. You'd think the biggest manufacturer of toys in the entire world could afford a website that actually works...
-
Sure, ask him if the current Pirates theme is a one-wave thing.
-
That is an insane bargain indeed, congrats.

I guess that's a fair point, but in that case: do we know that "Captain Pete" is actually a captain? or called Pete at all? As for the best captain, I think that Brickbeard's head on the new Captain Roger's torso and with the new hat would make for the ultimate pirate captain.

I'd like to thank the people mentioning Bricks & Pieces for opening my eyes. Instead of wasting a lot of money on a ship I don't much like, I instead decided to simply buy the unique torsos and heads from The Brick Bounty - along with an assortment of other interesting pieces from other sets (mostly torsos, heads and hairpieces). I got a lot of nice minifig parts from themes I would otherwise not collect (like, for instance, some really nice Superheroes hair that I can use for my historical setups) and often the prices weren't much higher than getting the pieces on Bricklink (sometimes significantly lower!), and with much lower postage costs. I even managed to score some pieces from licensed figures that I wouldn't have thought possible to buy this way. I couldn't get the new pirate cook's legs, though. But it's the torso and face that really make him anyway, so I'll live. And I got me some old-style red and white bandanas instead of the new ones, so it's actually a step up. I was also too cheap to pay the premium price for the new pirate captain's hat, so he'll have to settle for one of the old ones. Very excited for this order.

I'd like to say that this review confirmed my doubts and helped convince me not to buy this set and instead just get the unique figures. It's simply not different enough from Brickbeard's Bounty to warrant a purchase. So thank you, Dreamweb! I hope to see you do more reviews in the future.

Wow, absolutely fantastic! Never seen anything like it. Impressive work and an equally impression imagination! What do you have in Aalborg?

I'm fairly sure that unless they can prove that they delivered the package to you (which they can't), they'll have to reimburse you for your loss. Stand your ground.
