As I tend to model trains from my country in LEGO it is unlikely that I would ever purchase the Santa Fe. But I can see a resemblance to a DG class that used to run here. I wonder how many of the parts are available in dark red..... Thank you for the link.

With a super fantastic price on shipping I have purchased 4512 and it comes in almost exactly on budget. It is complete but doesn't have any instructions or box. Though I think I have seen the instructions on Brickset or LEGO®.com. So now am super excited for it to arrive. Thanks for everyone's help and opinions.

Maybe I can stretch my budget as 4512 does look like a very nice set. As I figure it out it isn't that much more than the original price. There seems to be a ton more useful parts in 4512 and I think it looks better than 4564. So now my mind is unmade again. Looking at the price of getting all the bits individually doesn't look like it will be much more cost effective if at all. With this set there is more wheels and buffers and also a set of points, or switches I guess depending on where in the world you live. All these parts will be rather useful. When shipping all the way to New Zealand it is always a balancing act between buying enough gear to make the shipping worth while and not having to go to multiple sellers and not getting too much so that the shipping gets out of hand. I've just made some queries on prices for shipping so will see what I get back from that.

That is absolutely superb. And I love that you have quoted all that scripture!

Cool. I think my mind has been made up. Definitely looks to be better investment to buy the parts I want individually. Thanks folks for your help it has certainly changed my thinking on how to buy 9v gear. Lazarus. Thank you for the offer of a controller. I live in Christchurch so a wee way from Auckland. Though would you consider sending one at my cost to CHCH? Thanks, You can PM me if you like.

He folks. I have a question to ask regarding purchasing a 9v train system. I have some old 12v stuff and I have PF stuff but with the advent of ME models new track I am keen to look into 9v. The benefits as I see it are no batteries and the ability to make smaller locomotives or locomotives with small or narrow bodies without the need for a secondary wagon to house the extra PF parts. This is something I liked to be able to do with 12v but the track is getting harder and more expensive to come by. My track is also getting more brittle and more pieces are breaking. Unfortunately I don't have a permanent setup. Currently funds allow for the purchase of about $230NZD ($200USD) which includes shipping to New Zealand. I am banking on about $40NZD Shipping. So sets that include everything I need to get started within my budget look like 4561 and 4559. My question then.....which one would people choose given my situation? I do not think that either of these are LEGO's best efforts but as I say they seem to include everything in my given budget. Parts wise 4561 does look appealing for all of the windows. Any advice will be greatly received even if you think it is a waste of time going to 9v. I will be interested to hear/read your views.

I'll add my voice/words to the chorus! This looks great. I would love to see it in real bricks too

Looks really nice. I personally don't think it hangs out too much at the back at least in comparison with images I have seen on the web. Will you keep the very angular roof or make this more rounded? Personally I think more rounded would look better with the rest of the loco. Have you fitted the batteries and motor inside this? If so I would like to see how you have done it

Really love my comics like Peanuts, Tintin, Asterix. I always felt the original Peanuts shows were really good. Even really liked Flashbeagle! One of my all time favourite Peanuts songs! It felt like the shows and the strip could go together. But then along came Tintin. Personally I felt that was ruined as a movie. Could hardly watch 30 minutes of it before I had to switch it off. Asterix did some live action but even that was subpar compared to the books. Though I did like the Cartoon Asterix movies. Especially Asterix and the 12 Tasks. So I really really hope that this is good. I must admit the trailer looks good. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Helo Legopicler. I'm glad that you could share this with us. I have just one question. Was weaning you off the ABS the most loving and supportive thing a family can do? My family have been great at feeding my habit.....well....maybe they are all just sick too. But anyway. Welcome to Eurobricks! You'll find plenty of support for your addiction here. Not that many I would imagine should want to help get off of it but we'll certainly do our best to support you through whatever troubles you have. Whether it be where you should go for a good deal how best to manage symptoms of withdrawal and so on

Flower Quiz....spin-off from Serious questions about....
Pizzareno replied to Superkalle's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I agree with L@go's answers. But I'll add my 2 cents worth. 3) Which other brick type has reduced clutch power in the LEGO system? Brick 12 x 24 (30074) Well at least all the ones I have do have reduced clutch power. 6) Name a fundamental flaw with the stem/stalk (3741) element as far as the LEGO System is concerned. You can't fit a regular brick or 1 x 1 round brick into the middle of it. -
This is really nice, though when I first saw it I was like, oh this good. But when I saw it running it brought a large smile to my face and to me it looks so much better! I love watching all the running gear moving. It makes the whole loco come alive! Very good. I like it lots now

A colleague of mine just stepped into my office and looked at the LEGO picture of your loco. He said, "That's not LEGO!" I had to show him that it was and tell him how fantastic it is.

That is neat. I have one of these motors and thought about pulling the wheels out. How far did it go?

LEGO Ideas Discussion
Pizzareno replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think the 1 year limit is great. I mean if you look at other crowd sourcing like Kickstarter for example you have way less time to make your dollar amount. I agree with the above comment that LEGO Ideas conveys the (dare I say) "idea" of the site better. Well to me anyway. I look forward to the new site. Does anyone know sort of time it took for the existing CUUSOO sets and current items in review to reach the 10000 votes? If this is below 12 months then I would say LEGO are vindicated in setting the time limit as they will. -
They should have used the bald old guy for the male pensioner!

Thanks Zephyr, I have seen the article in the Railbricks where the guy cuts the plates and adds the metal rails. I might have a go at this and get some plates on a lugbulk order or something I guess I just want something to make the rails at the right gauge and that is the major hang up.
-
Would you be able to glue a metal rail to the tiles? In essence being able to use it with 9v motors?
-
Hey that looks like some real nice photography. I like the ones out in nature. Mr Good and Evil and the tomahawk ones are very cool!

Hi Lazarus, I'm in Christchurch. I really hope to have these built and another loco as well, maybe a DC in the old Red and Yellow scheme for the show in Christchurch later in the year.
-
Such a great build. The whole build looks so clean. Does that make sense?
-
Hey great job. Looks really nice. I like the bogie detail. In fact the whole thing just looks good Would you put white 1 x 1 round plates for the springs instead of black ones like in your reference photo or does that look weird?
-
Would Would you stick with the lower doors too? Or have the higher doors with the roof only 6 wide instead of the first one which has the roof at 8 studs wide at the end?
