  1. So I thought I'd hijack my own thread and show some other work in progress models. This is my guards van, I am pretty happy with it. Just need to build it in real bricks now. My original design for my A class carriage. This shows my initial shaping for the end of the carriage roof. I like this more but isn't so prototypical though I guess that doesn't matter as the length is way too short but that doesn't bother me either. This shows an alternate end where the door is higher and reflects the look of the real coaches more (I think). But I don't know that I like this so much. 2. Hey guys I found this while making a bogie for one of my trains. The light holder (4070) fits fine in LDD but doesn't in real life much to my dismay when I tried building my model. So funnily enough I resolved the problem with an illegal technique using a technic brick with two holes in it. The purpose was to attach a 1x2 plate to two of these parts side by side.
  3. This is so cool. Do you have any idea how many bricks you used? I am glad to see the slopes make such a difference to the bottom of the wall. And nice to see an all LEGO solution to tying it down.
  4. Oh wow. This looks great! Would you use stickers for the red and white stripes? Do you run it on 9v?
  5. Such a novel idea. I like it because it is so different. You won't find one of them in any old modelling magazine
  6. Yeah looks real nice. Good details. Have you figured out how you will do the windows? That looks like a tricky bit.
  7. I always kept boxes but my wife wants me to throw them all out. It makes me feel better seeing that lots of people do get rid of them so I think I will get rid of mine. It isn't like I display the boxes anywhere. Though I may keep the older boxes that do have alternate models. I wish they would bring that back then I'd have an excuse to keep the boxes again
  8. This is really cool. Is it based off anything in particular? When you have fewer sets it forces you to be more creative I find. Sometimes the amount of parts available can be overwhelming.
  9. Hey you can go here http://brickset.com/sets/theme-Space/subtheme-Classic Also if you haven't signed up you can then sign up and check off the sets you have and also put down the ones you want. I find this is a great resource.
  10. What a cool truck! I really like it. Can you post some pics of the underside?
  11. I would love to buy the ties also. No way I could afford $2k on a printer. If anybody wants to print me some let me know! Using the PECO track to me seems the best idea. I saw in a rail bricks issue some time back an article where a guy used 2 x 8 plates and cut out the two studs one stud in from each end then folded metal joiners through the holes and then threaded track through them. This looks very labour intensive but being able to buy ties at the correct gauge and put the rail on them would be great. 'sigh'
  12. I'm glad I could help
  13. Looks great. Can you put sloped bricks on the bottom or is there nothing that fits at quite the right angle?
  14. This may be similar to what you want/have. http://www.peeron.com/inv/colors
  15. This is so nice. I showed this to my dad who loves French trains. He said, "Yes, very well done indeed! Tell him it is a Class 120, remember the wheel numbering is done by axle number in France. i.e. a 2-3-2 in France is a 4-6-4 in England." Very good. This is so cool
  16. I want to see more of the comic!
  17. I was passing on The Lone Ranger having never had any western sets until my wife brought me the Cavalry Builder set as a cheering up gift after I broke my hand a couple of weeks ago. Even this small set with the new guns got me hooked. Then a couple of shops had 40% off Lone Ranger so I bought everything except the train as it seems to be out of stock everywhere. This also negated the extra pricing of it being a licensed set. I hope there is another movie so that there are more sets or at least a new western theme of the same quality as these sets. I liked the movie too.
  18. I really like the first two. Do you have any instructions on the first one? Mostly cos I'm too lazy to backwards engineer it The second looks like a lotus. Great stuff!
  19. I have changed the windows on the Tram and agree they look far superior. I tried changing the front of the roof but maybe I don't know if I have built it like you might have envisioned but here is a shot of it anyway. I made the roof colour change to the diesel and that looks great. Also put the technic pin in place of the stacks and that looks really good too. I won't change the step at the front though. I was looking through some more photos and the top step on the prototype is very narrow so I'll leave that. I really do appreciate the feedback. It has been great.
  20. This is really nice! I find when looking at reference photos of locos part colour varies hugely. Even the latest Kiwi rail locos that have the white fern painted on them vary in size greatly between locos even of the same model. Some bits are painted grey while others have the same part painted yellow. In the end I guess you go with what looks best to you. I personally like the black grills best as it breaks up the green a wee bit adding more variety. Just my opinion though. Anyway, nice job
  21. Nice. I really like it. I especially like the sound track. Funny thing my wife and I were talking about this sort of thing just a couple of days ago. The not putting stuff under the tree until Christmas. Good stuff. Have a merry Christmas!
  22. Thanks. I need these suggestions! So I will change the roof colour on the diesel. I think you are right and it will look better. I'll also change the windows to yellow when they arrive as that is what the real life one has. The steps between the bogies will be black rather than white. I have test run the loco on my track, though I don't have any video, but it does run quite well. I'm stuck in the 80s and so it still runs on the old 12v I don't think it would fit any PF stuff anyway.
  23. I am building a couple of items and would like to ask for opinions on the shaping and any other helpful suggestions First up is an electric tram. I am not sure about the shaping of the front end of the roof. I have the nice rounded sloped tile things along the side then the front is all studs and to me doesn't look quite right. Sorry for the rainbowish colours but don't have the colours I want yet. BL here we come. As far as I can see the only common colour that will look good for the sloped tiles and the 1 x 4 curved corner plates is white. It might help if they were all white and it might not look funny. Here is the original that my version is based on. Secondly is a diesel shunter. Colours are mostly right but the windows on the ends of the cab need to be changed to yellow and the bars at the front to white. Please let me know what you think and what improvements I could make to this model. The original that my version is based on. Well actually I have made what I think is a general example of this type of loco. Thank you for taking the time to look and comment.
  24. Thank you. It is the old 12v light brick inside the boiler. My dog doesn't chase anything unless it is a ball or a stick and then only when we are outside I never thought it was the Beatles but since they have always been my favourite band maybe it was my subconscious putting them together. I couldn't find hardly any yellow slopes so just used these pieces and I like the way it looks.
  25. Hi everyone. I would like to show you my christmas train for running around the tree this year. No fancy part usage just a colourful train for the tree I tried to base it on the old style 12v locomotives from the 80s. I was rather lacking inspiration for my train this year as I try to do a new one every year. The last wagon with Santa and the Elf is definitely my favourite. http://www.flickr.com/photos/42922809@N03/sets/72157638630019436/with/11350413193/ Check out a short video here. Thanks for looking and please let me know what you think. I feel like a numpty and maybe cos the night is getting on but I can't seem to upload a picture to the post....
