  1. Yeah these are fine looking coaches. They don't look too bad with the plain windows but like a lot of others have suggested the brown frames would be good. Really nice work though. What loco will you use to pull these?
  2. Scary stuff. I have two backups now. In my job I'm always preaching about the value of backing up data. At home I have a full copy of my system and then another one which has just the family pictures and videos. Can't ever have enough backups! Oh and don't leave them plugged in to your computer in case something happens to them! I had a lady just this week that had both her hard drives fried and unfortunately didn't have a backup. Sad times for her.
  3. This is coming along great! I really like the small details like the underground pipes
  4. I really like this. I wish I could own a real Stratos. Though this would do for me Any chance you could build it in race colours?
  5. Hi folks. Here is my latest little MOC. It is based off of this: You can see more here - http://nzrailwaysrollingstocklists.weebly.com/es---4-wheel-sleeper-of-1973.html Basically this thing is designed to carry sleepers and as it is 1973 yes the sleepers are still wooden. Though we have miles of track around this country that still has wooden sleepers. I was on a train last weekend up the east coast and there was works going on replacing some wooden sleepers for concrete ones. I imagine that sort of work will be going on for decades to come. I hope to build 3 in different colours for a bit of variety. I'm trying to build small trucks that use existing parts that I have while I wait an eternity for other parts for my Locos and Tram and carriages and guards van to arrive! Let me know what you think. Always open to suggestions for improvement
  6. I think using non LEGO ballast is a great idea. Look at Bricktrix's layouts that he has made with non LEGO scenery. For me this is the way I am going to as I can't afford to make all my scenery with LEGO. And besides this way I can combine my two hobbies quite nicely. And also I figure if it is good enough for LEGO to use non LEGO scenery for their products it is good enough for me! I was just thinking about when they show off their Chima range the whole scene is non LEGO.
  7. This is really nice but my only reservation would be that it doesn't look like you can fit minifigs in the seats unless you remove one of their arms. Is that right?
  8. I like the overall look of this locomotive. I think you have done a great job. I find though when you are building it is more important to get the overall look right and things like the width and so forth can be excused because the locomotive just looks right even though the scale is out or the splashers aren't quite in line or whatever. Anywho that is my 2c worth. I look forward to seeing it in real bricks.
  9. Wow. These look good. Really looking forward to seeing some more detailed pics. I have been a huge fan of "The Railway Series" since I was a kid. Owned all the orignal 42 Railway Series books and all sorts of models and hulabaloo. Didn't appreciate the TV moving away from the original content though. I must agree with Paperballpark's question about Brickshelf. I was late to this game of posting online and have never used Brickshelf. I started with Mocpages until it was almost unusable then switched to Flickr which in my experience is so much more friendly. Easier to navigate and you can comment.
  10. It is just a shame that the centre metal rails from the 12v won't clip on to the curved track. The straight rails are fine but the curved ones have a supporting piece of plastic in the wrong place. Otherwise you could use PF track and still run 12v. I feel like experimenting with cutting the bottom of my 12v curved centre rails and seeing if that will work. Has anyone ever tried that?
  11. I like both but as has been pointed out it is easier to skip ahead or go back to a certain picture more easily with a pictorial review than using a video. However I also agree that having a video as part of a reivew to show a function would be beneficial. However I really like that video review of the pirate set as it essentially covers everything you could want to know without going over things and blabbing about a minifig or box for 10 minutes like I have seen some videos do. So videos could be beneficial for small sets rather than pics. In short, benefits and drawbacks to both I feel.
  12. I look forward to some pictures of that!
  13. Fantastic! You must have the best serviced LEGO railway ever!
  14. I will go along with the majority here and say build it. Unless of course you will think about selling it in the future. For me, I will probably never sell any of my LEGO so building it and playing with it is the priority. I bought a 41999 and promptly opened it, my daughter sat on the box and squished it and I took it outside (against the advice of the instructions) and drove it off a piece of play equipment onto the concrete. It did damage some of those nice silver pieces but I guess it is getting played with and the monetary value makes no difference to me as it won't get sold. I did cringe when I saw what happened to the pieces but now after a few months it doesn't bother me. I don't go out to actively destroy my LEGO it just happened that the controller lost contact with receiver and I couldn't stop it!
  15. I love this. I always struggle to build flat wagons as mine end up looking so boring but this looks fantastic! I just want to know is it dark red or brown for the base of the wagon? I'm having a hard time distinguishing that.
  16. This sounds great. I really enjoyed the cartoon series and it would be so cool to integrate this with a new movie. Only I don't like the idea of Quorra nearly dying as that already happened once. But I'm not sure what you would do with her. Maybe she could display some superpower in the real world in terms of interacting with the grid or something. I dunno. But I love your ideas and definitely would be up for some TRON LEGO!
  17. Another question, does anyone know if Amazon.com will be selling the ExoSuit? And if so will it be available on the 1st of August the same as S@H. The reason I ask all this is because I was going to order on the US S@H if the product wasn't available on the New Zealand S@H and use a freight forwarder. Now I have just learned that apparently LEGO won't ship to a freight forwarder. I really don't want to miss out on an ExoSuit so if Amazon don't have it and I can't get it on S@H I'm going to be a bit stuck. Alternatively if anyone living in the States will accept a shipment for me and send them to me (I'll pay costs of course) then Everything would be Awesome.
  18. Does anyone know and can anyone tell me if the ExoSuit will be available on the New Zealand S@H? I can see it on the US one as coming soon but that is all.
  19. So you wouldn't do any damage using up to 9v without the speed stepping? I just don't understand the stepping and not having it just max out at 9v.
  20. Well my train set 4512 has arrived! I am hooked! Doesn't feel as rough as 12v and I can do more with the sides of the bogies owing to the narrower profile of the wheels as well as not having to worry about batteries! Now to get me some more track and points/switches. And some ME track wide radius curves too! One question....I see the speed is stepped rather than like with 12v where a smooth increase power generates a smooth increase in speed. Is this due to the controller or the motor? If it is the controller can I use another controller to get that smooth power increase?
  21. I work in IT and have actively withheld computers/tablets from my daughters. I know what having PCs and gadgets did for me and while I enjoy my work I hate how much of an obsession and time waster computers can be. My oldest who will be 4 before Christmas loves playing with trains. In fact my wife and I were discussing this this morning and wondering whether keeping her from the electronic gadgets and TV (we don't have one) has made her have more interest in other pursuits. As a result any time my trains come out she wants to play with them and watch them go around. I have shown her how to use the controllers and to shunt wagons carefully so they don't derail. I bought a couple of 7939 on half price a few months back. One for me and one for my daughter when I feel she is old enough to play with it responsibly. So I think this birthday or Christmas, looking at the way she has been playing with my trains the last few weeks, we will wrap this up and hopefully she has a reaction like you when she unwraps it
  22. Yeah I gather she is/was in New Zealand but I haven't seen or heard anything. Mind you my participation in the AFOL scene here has only been for the last 18 months or so. Thanks for people's help and interest. I asked the question in the hope that someone on here might have had a closer relationship than just this forum and may have known. I was particularly interested as she seemed to be modeling NZ Railways as that is my interest and I have not found really anyone here that has that does that in LEGO too. I see she was in her 60s but that isn't really old and hearing that she didn't have good health makes me think the worst. Completely forgot about sending a PM so I will do that and let you know if I get a response.
  23. Just as the title asks. I was researching for my latest MOC and came upon a whole lot of posts from her. But I see she has been offline for over a year. Anyone aware of where she has gone?
  24. Considering that you can get them for a fraction of the price from Bricklink - http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?q=4548-1 I think £40 looks quite expensive.
