At Copmike's suggestion, starting a new thread concerning the apparent limited availability of 21021 Actually, I'm threatening to not buy any more architecture sets because of TLGs distribution policy on 21021. Of course, that threat is already gone because I bought 21021 through a third part seller at a high mark up. And, I will buy as much lego through Amazon.com as possible. If TLG wants to increase my costs by making sets like 21021 available to me only though third party sellers, well then part of their profits on other sets can go to Amazon. The mall that's two miles from my house has a lego store. I'll be at the mall with my wife on January 1. I'll make sure I order what I can on my mobile device from Amazon while sitting in the mall. No threat not to buy any more lego. Just a promise to buy it from a third party, which TLG clearly prefers given its distribution system on 21021. Btw, I won't miss the VIP points.

News LEGO Architecture 2014 News & Discussion
Off the wall replied to Herky's topic in Special LEGO Themes
As you can tell, I'd really like to see the Chrysler building as a large lego set. A 300 piece set would make it just another awkward small architecture set. A larger one would be great. The large Eiffel Tower, al least to me, is the ultimate Lego build. It dominates a display and a room.- 180 replies

Bacon Bacon Bacon Bacon Bacon
Off the wall replied to Savage Oppress's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Bacon ice creme. Or the milk shake with a strip of bacon that I used to get at Flip in ATL. Btw, this is an important question. One that I've been waiting for someone to ask. Your responses will be a make it or break it moment for this website. Think carefully before you respond. Vegans, steer clear. -
WhiteFang, good review. I like the actual building and I think Singapore should be proud to have it as one of their landmark structures. As for the Lego interpretation of it, well, I think you know how I feel about that. :-)

When will the Lego Friends Theme retire?
Off the wall replied to Savage Oppress's topic in LEGO Town
To Savage Oppress: "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public." H. L. Mencken Probably applies to more countries than just America. All of this is said with a big :-) -
For rather obvious reasons, Lego seems to have a much easier time with Frank Lloyd Wright works and Art Deco buildings in general. When you get into buildings where the design involves curves and other angles that aren't 'brick friendly', they seem to wind up with unappealing products like the small Sydney Opera House, the small Eiffel Tower and Marina Bay Sands. I would like to see the Marina Bay sands evolve to a large piece count set like the Sydney Opera House did. That would allow for a more accurate representation of the actual building rather than the small, unflattering version represented by 21021.

One final thing. I'm collecting the architecture series. If Lego wants to issue a set representing the Hampton Inn down the road from me, fine. If they want to limit it to 10,000 units that will only be sold in Armpit, GA, fine. But don't include it in the architecture series with an architecture series product number. When you do that, and if I'm collecting the entire series, it appears to leave a hole in my collection. Got it, TLG?

Okay, here's some honesty. I ordered this from a supplier in Asia. Paid way too much thanks to TLG. I plan on spending about $1000 on new Lego products when they are released on January 1. Despite not getting the VIP points, I will order everything that I can through Amazon and let TLG give some of its profit away to Amazon. Loyalty is a two way street, TLG..... Btw, legogal, still love ya! :-) Ps....my wife is on her way to Walgreens to refill my medication. :-)

Can't shake the guilty feeling of wanting to return a LEGO set.
Off the wall replied to SweetiePie88's topic in Community
Nothing to feel guilty about. It's the same as if she had bought you a sweater that was a color you didn't care for. She wants you to be happy, that's why she bought you Lego. And, like someone else said, Lego is too expensive to keep a set you don't really need. Besides, to many people, Lego is Lego, and she might not even be able to tell the difference. :-) -
On one of my two championship teams, I had LeSean McCoy and the Pats defense last weekend. That pretty much made the difference.

As I told you in a previous thread, I signed up for 48 NFL fantasy teams on yahoo. My plan was not to change anything on the rosters (they were all auto drafted by the yahoo computer) and not look at them until the fantasy season was over. Well, here are the results. 2 championships One second place Three third places One fourth place Three fifth places Three sixth places Seven seventh places Eleven eight places Five ninth places Twelve last places I've played fantasy football for what seems like forever. Wanted to see what would happen if I took a season off.

With all due respect, why do most people on this website feel obligated to suck up to TLG even when TLG makes a blunder? Just asking, no disrespect intended.

If Lego wants to enter into the Beanie Baby realm of manufactured scarcity/collectibility, well I'm out of the architecture series. I know, one person like me who's collected all previous architecture series products doesn't mean anything to Lego, but I'm not going to support a product line with manipulated scarcity.

What themes do LEGO "Old Timers" Collect?
Off the wall replied to Legogal's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well, my wife got me another Pet Shop and another Haunter House for Christmas. I now have all of the mods NIB back through GG plus I have all of them built. I had a haunted house, but converted it to a modular building. Maybe I'll just build it this time as a straight up Haunted House. Can't wait for January 1st as I want the new Maresk ship. Thinned out a few sets over the holidays including the mobile crane to one of our friends children. Will hold off on the PR...... Hope all fellow old timers had a good Christmas. I was really proud of my 13 and 11 year old nieces. They wanted archery gear and BB guns for Christmas. They live in rural Alabama and live life like it was lived decades ago (in many ways). They show much more interest in things they can use on their farm rather than on tech gear. While they have iPhones, when I left yesterday they were not glued to them. Instead, they were getting ready to go out for a little target practice. -
Keep building. Good plan. I also intend on continuing to avoid greeting every new Lego product with comments along the lines of 'great, best ever, must have....'. I want to continue to be as objective as I can when operating in a largely subjective environment. While I like most Lego releases, I also think my opinions will continue to express my thoughts when I'm disappointed. PR...case in point. Andy, another good thought provoking comment. Appreciate it.

Actually, I've seen this done. I think there's a thread on this website showing it. Yes, it's worth it. The expanded FB looked great

I'm going to make a life size MOC of Julia Roberts. Just unsure about how many motors I'll need.

Rules of Engagement. The Jeff Bingham character was the best. CBS tried to kill this show for years but it survived long enough to produce enough episodes for syndication. The last few years of the program, CBS used it as 'spackel' to patch their prime time line up when one of their can't miss new comedies would fail. The Sopranos was good. Phil Leatardo got whacked in the final episode at the gas station near my house.....when I used to live in NJ. I watched All My Children everyday after work. It was cancelled a couple of years ago. Downton Abbey. Of course, they speak a different language than me. They speak English and I speak some crude American derivative of their language. When I watch the post game interviews after a Liverpool football match, I need an interpreter to figure out what some of the players are saying. Again, that's my problem, not theirs. And, the classic, Hockey Night in Canada.
-
Yep, I agree.
-
Thanks, Vee....maybe I'll start with 4956 and work forward from that. I'm so totally disappointed with the PR offering that I need a distraction until the next modular building is announced. I am looking forward to the Maersk container ship and the long awaited, not yet confirmed, Mini Cooper. Appreciate you getting me interested in the 32 x 32 houses.

What themes do LEGO "Old Timers" Collect?
Off the wall replied to Legogal's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yep, sure has. I appreciate the moderators not playing the 'off topic' card. Because.......it would be nice if this remained a broad, flexible thread where those over 50 could go to just bounce things off the wall, so to speak. Our age does give us a different paradigm. -
It's already shown up on ebay as 'pre-order, buy it now' for a little over $200.
