Great question. I don't even like it, but I can't wait to build it. I've heard that it will be available to VIPs on Dec 13 or Dec 16, heard both. Haven't really questioned which is correct, if either. Guess that since I drive by the Lego store twice a day, I could stop and ask. However, you probably know about my aversion to malls from my previous posts. :-)

Nice stuff. Almost makes me wish I were sixty years younger. :-) Almost.....

Well, ya get old and your paradigm changes. Building Lego helps keep all of the gray matter working like it should. Plus, I get more enjoyment out of the kids reaction. The build is the big deal for me. Of course, I keep all of the modular buildings. Stuff like the current Lego Sopwith Camel are fun to build, but more fun to see the eyes of an eight year old light up when you present them with a nice Lego product.

Well, it's about that time. And, appreciating the diversity of this website and not meaning to offend anyone, I'm referring to Christmas because that's what I, in my limited exposure to the world, am familiar with. For, those of other beliefs, chime in as I'm sure you have something on your gift receiving wish list. Well. What do you want for Christmas as far as Lego products go? How can Santa make YOU happy (okay, so stick to Lego stuff, eh?) I told my wife that I want the Star Wars Death Star. Not very Christmas like, and I don't even really follow or collect SW. But the piece count is so high and the build would take so long that I couldn't resist. If I'm lucky enough to get it, I'll build it, look at it for a few weeks and then give it to the kid down the street.

Eiffel Tower, without a doubt. Mostly dull gray pieces and tricky building techniques on the lower level. However, despite its monochromatic nature, it's my favorite and the most impressive as it does what it's supposed to do.....tower over everything else.

Looks like it's working again. Oh, well, now if I could just get that other website to work....

For what it's worth, after I decided to blow off the event that's within walking distance of my house, I went on line and ordered. I received an email confirmation of my order a few hours later, at 11:38 am eastern standard time. Since about that time, accessing the site has been like trying to sign up for health care.

Yep, the situation is pretty dire when healthcare.gov is working and the Lego website is down...

Yep, you are so right. I just ordered my fourth GE from Lego.com store......got the triple points and the holiday promotional item. Waiting for Amazon deals on stuff that I want. Thanks to TLG for the in store event, but it just didn't offer enough to override the convenience of online shopping. Unfortunately, the experience was tarnished by that dirtbag Suarez scoring a beautiful goal against Everton. I just hate Liverpool!

My dog got me up early. Thanks for the early report. It's not enough to keep me from going back to bed and then doing other things. I can't endure the mall experience unless there is more to be had for doing so. So, I'll pass on this event. Besides, the timing makes it conflict with the Everton-Liverpool match. Might miss Suarez bite someone.

We read it and appreciate your thoughts. However, your post is not the definitive answer. From what I'm reading, different stores have some flexibility on who's in and who isn't. My approximately $1700 was from about six trips. Plus, I had a store manager ( not mine) say it wasn't based 'mostly' on number of transactions. I can't believe that six visits is what got me in. Btw, I've been in the store once in the last six months...to buy the new Sydney Opera House

From some of the comments, I think TLG is walking a fine line here between rewarding some VIPs and alienating others. I thank TLG for this Saturdays event, but I don't know how I'd feel if I was on the outside looking in and didn't have much of an idea as to the criteria used in extending invitations. Again, I am thankful to having been invited and don't want to 'look a gift horse in the mouth', so to speak. Just brought this angle up for the sake of discussion.

Seems like there has to be more at the store than discounts on currently available product. Given the amount of stuff we've purchased in the past year, not much of an incentive to me if they discount stuff that I already own.
-
Well, let's wait and see. Gotta believe there will be some benefit to showing up in person. If not, my two mile drive to the store will be for naught.

IF the new sets were available, now that would be really cool. If they aren't, I'm probably out of there with zero spent because I have all that I want at this point in time. I might get another GE modular for future MOC projects, but that's it. Since I'm not a speculator/reseller, I don't need anymore copies of what I already have. It would be tempting to get one of the large SW offerings if the discount was big enough but, then, I catch myself and ask 'where would I put it ?' The Taj Mahal, Eiffel tower, Tower Bridge and Sydney Opera House take up a lot of room as is. Besides, I lost interest in Star Wars back in about 1983. That might be before many of you were even born. :-)

Great! Reasonable people can disagree, especially on something as subjective as design/aesthetics. By the way, I have some non-Lego collectors who really like the modular building set up that I have. I showed pictures of the PR along with three MOCs that are/have been on ebay or on this sit as a MOC (including the outstanding Barnes Noble/ Starbucks that can be seen in another thread). I asked the three which building they thought was the next Lego release. None of the three picked the PR. Just sayin'........

Architecture MOC of the Palace of the Dawn in Brasilia
Off the wall replied to DanSto's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It's one of my favorite Lego architecture builds that I've seen.....especially since it's a MOC. Truly representative of the actual building while having the feel of Lego. I especially compliment you on your selection of colors. They really 'pop' while remaining faithful to the actual building. I would like to see TLG take your idea and run with it. Congrats, great job! Oh, and thanks for all of the background info on the building including some very interesting facts and pictures.- 9 replies

Your son is fortunate to have such a good father! Cheers to you!

That's a good point. Now that I've bought what I want, I can't see another invite in the future. All I'm interested in are the modular buildings, architecture and large piece count creator sets. I spent a lot this year playing catch up. If there are a few arch sets each year, one modular building and a couple of large creator sets.....probably not enough to merit an invite.

Well, I don't drink, I don't play golf, I no longer chase women and cars are utilitarian objects to me. Thirty years ago, when it was in a law library at 10 o'clock on a Saturday night, I could only hope for the day when I had disposable income. I've seen more of the road than what's left ahead of me. At the present time, Lego is fun. So, I'll chase after it until it no longer is. Paradigms change over the years. :-)

SwissBrick Thanks for the comment. I really enjoy Jamie's work. The Parisian Restaurant just doesn't do it for me. My opinion should not diminish anyone's enjoyment of the PR. I have an opinion. It's subjective. Others shouldn't feel the need to have dissenting votes identify themselves. Phrases like '.....have the ba---' aren't appropriate. This is Lego! Some appear to be looking for unanimity on what is basically a matter of personal taste. If you don't want less than 'I'm thrilled with it and it's the best ever', then don't give me the option of voting for anything less or don't have a poll to begin with. Geesh, this is Lego, not politics.

The 'Friends' comment was just expanding of what I had previously said. I will go back and change 'North Korea' to 'the mayors race In my hometown where I grew up in Michigan' as it is just as applicable. Any vote that's over ninety percent is questionable in my opinion. Unless the question is something like 'should you put a puppy in a microwave?' Then, you should get well over ninety percent vote 'no' By the way, that's not a hypothetical. Some kids here in Georgia did stick a puppy in a microwave.

Go back and read my first comment in this thread. My opinion should have been obvious to even a casual observer. Should, unless I follow the majority, immediately come on line and post a comment directly linking my comment to a vote, even when it's pretty obvious what I think? Chill, folks, this is Lego. It's certainly something we can have different opinions about.

It's me! Just think it looks like something that belongs in 'Friends'. I don't like the use of space in the design. Don't like the colors. This is a subjective thing. Not like you said 2 + 2 = 4 and I said 'no', it equals 7. I try and grade on a curve, and in my humble opinion, it's below the other modular buildings. If you like it, be happy. The voting has the percentages of the mayors race in my hometown in Michigan. :-) So, there you go. No hard feelings, I hope.
