42030 - To Get or Not to Get
Off the wall replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It got down to 2 degrees one day last January. And, cold has a completely different meanin now that I'm in the south and not on the campus of Michigan State. Cold now is less than 40. Cold then was ten or below. -
Too bad it's not on January 1. :-)

42030 - To Get or Not to Get
Off the wall replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Some cold, dark winter morning I'll wander over to the Lego store and buy this one. I think its a very impressive set. Then, I won't be able to find a place to display it and I'll get my American Express bill. And, I'll ask myself....why? Because! -
My first MOC. Lego Summer House. About 1800 details.

Your house and your English are both great. Nice work. -
What Lego-related thing did you do today?

Thanks for the 'info'. I'm looking forward to your next MOC as much as I'm looking forward to the TLG releases on January 1. -

Simply unimportant as rumors are spreading that hipsters have started the gentrification of your modular city. Say it ain't so! -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Off the wall replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I remember going to a rather old dentist in Detroit back in the 60s. This guy must have started his practice sometime in the twenties. It appears as if he was making enough money by the thirties to furnish his office and waiting room with Art Deco and streamline modern furniture, which was still in use some thirty or so years later. The curves. The chrome. Now, that was an 'interior'...... -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I suppose it could be modified a bit for a broader appeal. But it already has some nice detail. And, a guitar that's one story tall? And the Sun Records logo? Mini figs of the great artists who recorded there? In trying to explain it in words, it's like John Sebastian once said... 'It's like tryin' to tell a stranger about rock n roll.....' As for the interior, just because I don't give a flip about interiors doesn't mean I think others shouldn't enjoy them and Lego shouldn't include them. Streamline modern, close cousin of Art Deco, is my favorite. However, I'd be surprised to ever see it in a modular. It would be just soooooooo different. Given the ginger bread detail that many seem to prefer, streamline modern is the antithesis of that. I've done a couple of buildings using basically white and gray I think come close to streamline. PM me with an email address if you want pics of them. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I think it was about a year and a half ago that Lego had some small seasonal sets out for spring and fall. They were inexpensive and a great way to accumulate the parts necessary to build a park. Lots of trees, parts to make a fountain, flowers. I used these to make the park area that surrounds my expanded TH. btw, if you google 'Lego modular MOC bank'....you'll see some interesting ideas. -
LEGO Architecture 2015 News & Discussion
Off the wall replied to tafkatb's topic in Special LEGO Themes
While I'm happy to get any new architecture set, I showed the Lincoln Memorial pictures to a friend. Interesting, she found it rather odd that TLG would take a memorial that means so much to Americans (especially from a human rights standpoint) and minimalize it to the extent that they did. -

Thanks. It seems as if it would be an interesting MOC. The guitar 'sign' would be fun. -

I'd like the next modular to be based on the Sun Records building in Memphis. -
While I don't buy them, I think TLG did a great job with their Friends product and very good with anything having to do with Star Wars. I did buy the Death Star set and it has to be the best lego set ever. I'm disappointed in modulars and in the continuing simplicity of the architecture series.

Agree. Given current market prices, it's probably a fair market price. Would I pay it? No. But, I don't set the market. -

For those of you a little bit behind on your modular collection, check this item number on the ebay US website: 221629268251 -
How to clean smoke damaged LEGO?
Off the wall replied to Agent Fusion's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'd give my insurance company the option of having the restoration company clean them and reassemble them or let the insurance company replace them with new ones. That's what's great about replacement cost coverage in a homeowners policy. If you can't go that route, I'd think Israel Hands sounds like he may have a good, simple solution. -
How to clean smoke damaged LEGO?
Off the wall replied to Agent Fusion's topic in General LEGO Discussion
If I knew you were in the USA, the answer would be easy. Your homeowners insurance would most likely cover cleaning and/or replacing the lego subject to your policy deductible. There are restoration companies that perform such post fire cleaning tasks. -
Would you recommend 10243 Parisian Restaurant?
Off the wall replied to BrickSev's topic in LEGO Town
Run, don't walk, to the nearest lego store and buy the PR. -
On a kitchen table with a lot of natural light that over looks a small lake/pond. The table has a opaque glass top that's expandable. Very easy to organize and sort parts.

Nice work. I'd buy it!

Beautiful. Simply beautiful. Shows the potential of using Lego to create something that has real style and beauty. Now, I have a Lego product to look forward to. I'll be buying several extra sets for friends.

I just build and display. And, like you, the display is mainly in the basement. A few of the FLW architecture series are in the office since they make such nice display pieces. Especially the imperial hotel. Many of the minifigs are unassembled and sharing a one gallon plastic storage bag. -
Thanks to the folks at the Alpharetta, GA store for another great event. Pretty much as described by others. Bought a Bike shop an a PC to use for parts. Was happy with what was offered and appreciative of their usual fine efforts.

I'm sorry if one opinion is upsetting so many of you. I'll make this my last post on this matter so that you aren't made uncomfortable by any diversity of opinion. Probably a good thing to do since the parrot card has been played, my opinion has been misrepresented by others as a statement of fact and my record of reviewing lego, while largely unknown, has been misrepresented. I'll be at the lego event in Alpharetta, GA tomorrow and will be happy to autograph your copies of the PR. Peace, love and faith...brothers and sisters!
