Cool story. Have you tried EN with the XL motor before? We had to take drivers off one side of a steam engine too because it was hitting the train station platform. It's interesting what gets left out in the layout collaboration planning stage.

It's really up to you. Classic Town and CITY don't come with washrooms. Maybe boys aren't all that interested in cleaning toilets. Larger Friends sets come with bathroom. Even their camper van has a bathroom/shower. Elevator could be another option if space is too tight for stairs.

You can search by tags. There is an option for that in the search engine. Tags are only good if the person creating a thread enters them. It may be best to visit both forums than to rely on tags. The same way manually validating new users works better than some Captcha or software to keep out new spammer users.

I think having a Mindstorm subforum could be useful. The Mindstorm indexes are out of date. New Mindstorm threads get buried in the sea of Technic discussions. Maybe it could include Boost, WeDo, and any other programmable LEGO electronics. Recently, I won an EV3 at a silent charity auction and still learning to use it. I should use Mindstorm where possible since my LUG is puristy. They don't seem all that into using inexpensive Arduino, Esp8266, STM32 microcontrollers for automation and control. I'd be interested in topics to flash custom firmware on the PUP's STM32F04 too.
