If it is a real person behind the spam, they can follow the process to register an userid. It is hard to stop a real person paid cheaply in a low wage country to go around spamming.

Very nice and clean.

Speaking of NASA, the user listing on the bottom of the main forum page used to show an asterik * at the end of your username if you signed in anonymously. It doesn't seem to do that any more.

The LEGO Group takes civil actions against LEPIN
dr_spock replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Win or lose or draw, you should show you are making an effort to protect your IP. Not doing so can indicate you don't care and it could impact your future court cases. With all the LEGO I've been buying, LEGO should be able to hire a good legal team. Lepin can continue to sell while the case is before the courts. There is no court injunction to stop them from doing so at the moment. Sellers are not screwed yet. -
Why is LEGO now being made in China?
dr_spock replied to 9v system's topic in General LEGO Discussion
We really don't know if they haven't taken legal action against other Chinese clones before. LEPIN seems to be the one they made public. Like Eurobricks administration, there are a lot of behinds the scenes stuff we do not publicly see or privy to. In the past, LEGO only said they have taken legal action where they can and wish for in other cases without any specific details. I think win or lose, you have to demonstrate an effort to protect your IP, otherwise, the lack of effort could be used against you in future suits. Was it Bayer who lost a trademark case through not protecting it for years and then suing? Some Chinese companies are building factories in India now because the labour costs are lower there than China. I guess they learned from themselves. -

I wonder if Disney is going to join in. -
I believe that is called a drawbar. It is used in real life for semi-permanent or permanent coupling between train cars. Drawbars can have less slack and weight than couplers.

Parrots and monkeys are part of LEGO Pirate theme. Maybe it is a subtle way to say we "pirated" some of LEGO's designs.

Thanks for bringing the forums back online sooner than later. Software upgrades can be a real test of Murphy's Law and admin's stamina. I am finding the bright white and light grey hard to read too. There is not enough contrast between the two for the older than dirt users. A darker grey may work better. Is a list of things still being worked on?

Displaying at events: How to get started?
dr_spock replied to Exetrius's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
It helps to be part of a LUG. You don't have but it easier as sometimes people will contact a LUG to display at their events. The other thing is make sure your MOCs are appropriate for the audience at the event. No easier way to get not invited back next year than showing inappropriate material. There are different type of displays--interactive and non-interactive. Interactive ones, you have to be physically there and may have to answer the same questions over and over again with the public crowds. Non-interactive, you put your MOCs in a display cabinet at the location and leave them for the duration of the agreed period. Those can be less stressful if you don't like crowds. -
BrickLink Alternative Sites To Buy LEGO
dr_spock replied to Yzalirk's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
You can try LEGO Pick A Brick or Bricks n Pieces. You pay right at check out. You can also earn VIP points. PAB can qualify for free shipping if the order amount $$ meets the criteria. BrickLink can be hit or miss with some sellers. Once I found a few reliable ones, I tend to stick with them. I usually to do a small test order with an unfamiliar seller first to evaluate their performance. -
Jangbricks has to be good since his YouTube revenue funds his LEGO buying. He is not support by LEGO and buys his sets through regular retail so he says.

[VIDEO REVIEW] 21307 - Caterham Seven 620R
dr_spock replied to Sariel's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Chroming is fine if it is going to be a display piece on the shelf. My experience with chromed pieces is it doesn't stand up to children playing over time. The chrome plating on plastic would eventually chip or wear off. Little young children eating bits of chrome flakes would not do well on social media. Also if your cat peed on your chrome pieces, it will be gone when you tried to wash your LEGO. If you really need chrome, there are 3rd party companies that can chrome parts for you. Technic General Discussion
dr_spock replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I posted a functional Technic crossbow in Special Theme last year -> http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=107328 It seems to be ok there. If yours doesn't fit in Technics, MODs will move it. -
Figure out what you want to build first and what parts you're missing. Queuing up parts from BL may be good to have on hand but then it may not be the best use of funds if they sit around unused. Unless you plan to challenge yourself one day by not using BrickLink and build with what you already have on hand. $580 might be better spent on sets like Bucket Wheel Excavator with lots of parts. You can stretch further if the sets are on sale. Common parts for GBCs are PF motors and gears and 14mm balls.

Shipping prices on Bricklink
dr_spock replied to harrypotterstarwarsfan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Companies like Amazon that do a huge volume of shipping can negotiate better rates with their shipping providers. Even with boxes and packing material, they may have an RFP or RFQ process with suppliers to get the best deal. They can then chose to pass the S&H savings or part of the savings on to their customers. Individual BrickLink sellers may not have that kind of shipping volumes to get preferential rates from shipping providers and suppliers. Depending on the situation, some times it works out better buying from LEGO Pick A Brick with free shipping than from BrickLink. -
Congrats on winning at Brickworld and being a semi-finalist. What would you do with the grand prize if you win in the contest finals?
