Looks nice, but for $380, I think it will be a pass for me. Probably will end up taking a harder look at the Pirate coaster.

Amazing work, especially the roof detailing! If this was an official modular, it would definitely be in my top two favorites.

I have been eyeballing this set as well, actually pretty torn between getting 1-2 of these or finally picking up a Detective's Office. I am not a completionist, so a DO is not ultimately crucial. It appears that each facade is 16 studs in length, therefore it might be interesting to try and and make them into a Pet Shop configuration with 2 16x32 plots with one being the Sanctum Sanctorum, and the other being the apartment building. I could pull the windows from the side and relocate them to the back so they could be non-corner structures. It looks like tkatt did this with the SS, and it is a very nice conversion. Funny thing is that I do not really keep up with Marvel. I know who Spider Man and Iron Man are, but am not familiar with the others. I just really like the building in that set.

Great MOC! The details on the roof look great along with the other elements that give the area a shady look. Not some place you want to be around at night......Also like how you used the Saturn V elements to make your sign.

Nice and sleek! It is impressive you did this in a few months, especially considering that an interior was also done in the building.

--- Bricksonville - City Layout with lights ---
AFOLguy1970 replied to AntiZombie's topic in LEGO Town
Very inspiring! We are hopefully going to close on a new house this month. There is a sunroom with blinds in the back that would be great for something like this. The lighting works very well.- 39 replies

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Green Grocer might be more believable as an April Fool's joke because it does have somewhat of an interior, while CC is currently empty on the inside. I am also sure TLG has an idea of how much everyone likes sand green. Not that I think they would re release either one their present forms, but GG would need less tweaking for sure. -
I hear you, but after putting the 68 Mustang together without stickers, I think it actually looks pretty decent. All that is left to do is remove the part under the front bumper and replace the exterior white parts with black and dark green, and it is a fairly nice street car. Not too crazy about stickers either, but sometimes they might be a necessary evil. Depends on the set.

I tend to overlook the scale issues and have no problem with Speed Champion cars in a modular layout. It would be kind of fun to set up a street race scene. Funny how the car is too big for the buildng, but the minifig is too big for the car. The minifigs also are not in scale with the modulars either. Take the BB for example. The bank is supposedly a reasonable sized corner building. Yet, the whole lobby would be the size of my living room if I was the "minifigure" for reference. So it is easy for me to overlook the size issues. I can be accepting of the Speed Champions, the vehicles included in the modulars, City Vehicles, the Mystery Machine, and other vehicles of similar size in a city layout.

This is a very nice combination of parts using only three sets, yet filling out a 32x16 plot very effectively. I also like the way it blends in with the other modulars. Great job!

That is a requirement for the new house we will hopefully have soon. The Lego room will be completely off limits to cats. One of the two cats once knocked part of a MOC on the floor by accident and then proceeded to chew on the loose parts that broke off. The broken off part was found in three different rooms of the house, two of them had teeth marks. This is why we cant have nice things...........

LEGO Ideas Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The arcade is very nice, as have been many modular submissions to Ideas. I remember when a lot of us thought the Natural History Museum had a relatively good shot with its dinosaur skeleton and STEM features. Projects of this size likely still face a significant uphill battle to actually get approved. Probably the best hope is that TLG gets a better idea of what types of building its audience would like to see. -
moc Modular Haunted house (based off 2x 10228)

Fantastic on many levels, especially the tiling, the minibuilds, the details that make the house seem in disrepair, and of course the portrait feature. Very unique and lots to see! -

Sets with large sized extra pieces
AFOLguy1970 replied to Johnny1360's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I would be fairly OCD if there was a large extra part like that left over. Probably would end up taking the model apart, and then putting it back together to see if I forgot a step where the part was needed. It does happen from time to time. -
Or in a bathroom right after someone took a shower.......

Incredible modular MOC! It would not surprise me if the Lego designers were inspired by some of the designs on the structure. A domed modular would be great. They are always looking for new building techniques and details. It might go best with a public structure such as a library or museum among others.

How did you come out of your Dark Ages?
AFOLguy1970 replied to LegoModularFan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
A lot of people mention the modulars, particularly the Parisian Restaurant, which is my favorite. Very interesting. My sets from the 1980's are long gone, but I saw Saesae Tin's Jedi Starfighter when it came out and gave it a try. The techniques that have changed since the 1980s were fascinating. Then, I saw the Lord of the Rings sets and had to have every one of them. I was not going to get into modulars due to the high cost until I unexpectedly sold a photograph for a couple of hundred dollars. Suddenly, there was enough to afford Palace Cinema. Then, it really took off from there.- 62 replies

Yes, I like to cycle (see sig). Hopefully we will move to a better neighborhood soon where it is safer to ride once again.

Even without the discounts, the closest TRU is pretty well cleaned out on sets that most people are after. Eventually, they will have to offer some significant discounts to get rid of the rest. Was hoping to buy Mos Eisley Cantina from them, but they never got a shipment of them in the first place.

TLG's disappointing 2017 financial performance
AFOLguy1970 replied to AmperZand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
If the US TRU stores liquidate, things could really get interesting. So far they have been stingy with the (non) discounts on Lego, but if all the stores end up closing, it is going to be a whole different animal. -
We are hoping to move to a larger house soon. There is only a little display space on some shelves for sets and MOCs. Everything else is in plastic bins beneath the beds and in the closet. I still buy more sets, because I know eventually they will be displayed. I would hate to miss out on a good set now even though we do not have space. Therefore, as new sets are built, and an older one is disassembled, bagged, and placed in a bin somewhere. Someday, I will have a dedicated room, and then there will be shelves and a town layout .

The part beverly888 refers to is this: https://brickset.com/parts/6097524/track-element-5x1-5 The good news is that it is close to the right color for bamboo and they are flexible when connected together. You can roll them up or down. What makes it more challenging is that it will probably only work for a window that is four studs in length. Because the part is 5 studs, you need to come up with a way to center them and allow for a little overlap on each side.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I must also agree. Jamie has come out with some great modulars, including my favorite in the PR. However, having multiple designers does seem to add more variety and techniques into the line compared to what you would get if there was only one sole designer. When the DD photos first released, it was interesting to note that some people did not think that Jamie designed it, simply because there was just something different about it. One thing I do not miss is the forced storyline which we saw in DO and BB. I would rather have the "story" designed around the buildings than have the buildings designed around the story. Not that I am blaming this on Jamie as he avoided that in PR and AS. We really do not know who ultimately made the decision to design them that way. I felt like TLG was making a mistake in the way that someone felt there was a need for a storyline which required designing a building around it, which unfortunately resulted in a significant number of parts devoted to building Prohibition cookie kitchens and an entire laundromat into a bank to push the "money laundering" gag. My guess is that most of the people would rather see the parts dedicated to exterior detail, because when on display, that is the part of the building you see. Some people care about interiors and some dont, but I am fine either way. However, I doubt that a needed storyline is front and center in priority for a vast majority of us. I suppose having different designers will help prevent the line from becoming stale down the road. -
This is definitely an improvement on the original GG. There are some nice minibuilds included in your design.
