LEGO Disney Minifigures & D2Cs - Rumors and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to Robert8's topic in LEGO Licensed
I completely agree. They already had one in the works. When you compare the Ideas design to the released version, they are completely different in design even thought the subject matter is the same. Consider the time it would take to develop the new mold, test it, and have everything ready, I have a hard time believing they went into overdrive immediately after approving the Ideas submission. As for the new minifig series, I am very happy about the inclusion of Steamboat Willie and Minnie. This provides everyone who cannot afford the big set a reasonable chance to get them. Building my own steamboat would not be too hard if I chose to do so. The wheel and life preserver parts will make them easy to identify in the packs respectively. This is great news indeed! I also join those who are puzzled by the omission of Goofy and Pluto, but perhaps they are coming up in a future release. I might go after Scrooge McDuck and make him the bank manager in my Brick Bank- 961 replies

$90 plus tax? I figured out my personal demand curve. At $30 per unit, similar to the original submission, I buy 3. At $50, I buy 1. At $90, I buy zero. I am wondering if this was already in the works internally, even before the Ideas project was approved. It would explain the really quick turnaround in production in addition to the major differences in the final design vs the original one. Just imagine the outcry if the Ideas project did not pass review, and they come out with this shortly after. Sure, it is just a theory, but prove me wrong.

I am kind of surprised they enlarged it so significantly from the original submission. If it was sold as a smaller set, it would probably fly off the shelves at the Disney gift shops in the parks and associated Lego Stores. This would appeal to several generations, and I can see this being a hot seller at something that is $30 or less. At $80, not so much as it is pushed out of the impulse buy range. Dont get me wrong, I think it is a nice set given the photo and description, and perhaps the value is on par. Only problem is now, that it is a significant deviation from the original submission and people who would have readily bought a small set for their collection might have to rethink this if it is double or triple the size/price they thought it would be.

Usually there have been some parts I can use or hoard for later. As much as the minibuilds themselves did not interest me, there certainly were often a lot of useful parts that were associated with them. For now, hopefully the store managers can at least have choice concerning what to order to keep it interesting. Granted, the lowest two rows are usually fairly generic such as prime color 2x4's, but there is still room for some variation even in the smaller stores.

Very interesting theme. We may try a couple of sets when it releases to see what it is like. I have a feeling Lego is testing out the interactive app on this theme to see if it will ultimately transfer to other themes. With this being unlicensed, there is less risk here. At the very least, you have some interesting playsets. It would appear nowadays that the biggest competition Lego and most other toys has is video games and apps. Trying to incorporate that into this line of toys might help draw the attention of some kids that have been exclusively into digital related media. If this proves to be successful, I can easily see something being done with the licensed themes as well. Imagine if a new Star Wars Cantina set came out, and the app made it come to life in some type of interactive game. You could have all of the creatures present from the movie and create tons of interesting situations. I would likely pay some good money for that. Another thing I wonder is this: if the app is programmed to recognize the general shape and/or colors of the set in order to activate, would it be possible to recreate the set out of your own bricks if you had the right ones rather than purchasing the actual set? Disclaimer: Not trying to create a discussion on ethics, but assuming you had access to the instructions, and you had enough of the key parts in your collection, could it be possible to activate the app feature?

LEGO Ideas Discussion

If Sitcoms is in right now, I can think of two I would love to see: Cheers. Yeah, I know. The fact it is a bar would kill it. But if Friends can make it, Cheers certainly could hold its own. Who would not want Sam, Cliff, Norm, Diane, Coach, and Carla in minifig form. Good Times. The living room and kitchen smack in the middle of the projects. JJ, Thelma, Florida, James, and Michael get in for sure. Possible outside chance of seeing Willona or Bookman. -
[POLL] Third 2018 LEGO Ideas Review Guessing Game
AFOLguy1970 replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I would think that the dinosaur skeletons would stand a reasonable chance since so many kids like dinosaurs, and it does not seem to complete with Jurassic World. If the piano is actually playable as in it can somehow actually produce a sound, it might be a strong contender. I agree that the food stands could meet their demise due to similar sets produced across various lines. -

I like the simplicity and timeless aspect of Steamboat Willie. We have a relative who collects all things Mickey and will be over the moon about this. Looks like we will have to buy two of these: one for him and one for us. I am going to assume then that any future Disney collectible minifig series will not include this manifestion of Mickey for fear that it could potentially cannibalize sales of the approved Ideas product. -

The mailbox error and exclusion of Dino is somewhat annoying, but not a dealbreaker. I remember voting for this one, so will probably pick one up soon. -
[MOC] BRICKS & BLOOMS - Modular Garden Centre
AFOLguy1970 replied to Bricked1980's topic in LEGO Town
Thank you for not making me be the first one to say that! If this had been the modular this year, I would be setting aside the $200 without question. Alas, they are probably finalizing a burnt out warehouse for us with a daycare on the second level and a bail bonds office on the third level. As always, excellent work on the MOC. I like the color scheme, and there are lots of fun details like the textured roof, the ivy effect, and the 90 degree windows that project out on the highest level. Even the back looks awesome! Easily supported and best of luck! -
Lego City 2019 - Rumours, Speculation and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to TheArturro's topic in LEGO Town
For Fun at the Fairground, I would expect the ubiquitous hot dog bun and sausage to make its appearance in addition to cotton candy. I would expect the builds to be some of the carnival games such as the mallet and bell, a throwing booth, maybe a ring toss, and the like. In fact, anyone familiar with the Lego Chase McCain undercover video game would find some stuff like that in the Apollo Island section of the video game. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I see some BB's listed on Bricklink close to retail. There are not many, but they are there for now. -
If you get there before the store opens, you have a decent chance of picking it up. Make sure you go straight to the item(s) you are after. Usually, they offer to hold stuff at the counter for me if I want to look around a little bit more.

There seem to be two groups that might give TLG concern: the unwilling and the unable. You have people who clearly think CG is a turn in the wrong direction, whether it be design, price, or both. Then you have the people who love it, but cannot afford the significant price increase. Opinions on this set vary widely, much more than even DD last year. Of course you will have the day 1 buyers out there ready to scoop it up. In previous years, I have certainly been there . Probably by later in the month there will be a better indication of how well received this really is. Those who visit Lego fan sites represent a tiny fraction of buyers, so it will be interesting to see how everyone else views it. Even if they like the design, are they willing to spend $200 on it? For example, I really like the roller coaster, but there is no way I am going to give up some of my summer vacation money for it. So I guess we will eventually find out how successful CG is compared to others.

This. I have been into modulars since FB was on the shelves. Of the ones released since then, there were only two I did not buy, so I have been impressed with the majority of them. I did not buy TH because I could not afford it at the time and did not realize it would retire "out of order". I also never got around to getting DO. It just never felt like something I just had to get. CG will be my third pass. I have to shake my head every time someone simply cannot believe that a Lego fan might not like a modular. And no matter what, their reasons liking it or not liking it is valid, because we all see things differently and have different tastes. Absolutely no problem until someone thinks we do not have a right to an opinion simply because it does not match theirs. Then we get accused of whining, complaining, having too high of an expectation, etc. But yes, what you said probably states it more eloquently than I could.

It is likely dark orange will be in greater supply on Bricklink because it is in production again for CG. Also, it might be a good idea to check Bricks and Pieces on the S&H site to see if it makes it in their inventory.

Well, after sleeping over it, I am fairly unchanged in my opinion of it. It is going to be a pass for me. a With that said, I am happy for those who do like the building and hope you enjoy the building and display experience. I think it is two things in particular that are putting me off: the architecture and the price. I do give the designer credit for rendering a fairly accurate representation of this type of architecture. It's not you, it's me. I am a Baroque, Classical, Neoclassical, Victorian, Romanesque, Richardsonian Romanesque, Art Deco etc. kind of guy. I do not like most forms of modern architecture. I find it ugly and plain. When travelling abroad, I look forward to the architecture, especially the kind found in Europe. I always hate coming home to cookie cutter neighborhoods, strip malls, and uninspiring garages among other things. So, it is basically the combination of what I find to be uninspiring architecture at a high price tag that has me thankful that I am not a completionist right now when it comes to the modulars. It is going to be a long wait until next year.

This is a very interesting City set. Now I am waiting with bated breath for news of the modular release. Hoo boy. Count me in with those who just are not feeling it. I am still trying to place exactly what it is that is bothering me. Is it the overpowering orange? Perhaps the unattractive architecture? Could it be the significant price bump? And "bump" is being generous. Maybe it is the fact that over half of the baseplate is not even devoted to the building. Every time the modular is released, I marvel at the new techniques. I did not feel that this time. Not to say there are not new parts and new builds, but as someone pointed out, I feel like I have seen this before in MOCs. Well, the good news is that I dont have any particular reason to get to the Lego Store before it opens on January 1. -meh-

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Someone on Brickset is suggesting it will be $199.99. That seems like quite a bit of price creep going on. It seems significantly higher than the rate of inflation. If this is a gas station, auto shop, vet, and an apartment, it is going to be challenging to get them all into a corner build. I believe this will be the first living quarters on a corner plot? Looking forward to the reveal tomorrow, hopefully with some good photos. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Agree that it seems unlikely that Art Deco would be presented two consecutive years. It has always been something completely different from one year to another. Also, we did get a car last year, so it does seem strange they would go that route again so soon. Most of the auto garages I imagine are rather unattractive and bland in architecture on the outside. To me, the exterior detail is the most important aspect of a modular. If the focus goes to the interior, then it may be a pass for me. This is not to say that a mechanic's garage could not be done right, but it would be challenging. Now, if you put a Route 66 sign on the thing, that would incur some incredible bonus points......although I doubt they would present two buildings in a row that would be identified as Americana. With the rumor of putting a vet on the second floor, that does seem a little bit dark to me, because it could imply the animal(s) got hit by the vehicles for the storyline. Then again, it will be funny when the announcement comes out, and it is neither a garage, a hotel, a police station, nor a musical venue. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I am honestly surprised it would not be in the calendar. Having it there gives it exposure, in fact a lot more exposure than just the announcement would. If you announce it on December 3 and leave it out of the January calendar, then only a relatively small population will even be aware of its existence. Sure, EB and other places where fans know to look will have the announcement, but most casual shoppers will miss it if it is not in the calendar. This is given out at the Lego Store for purchases as well as being made available online. To my knowledge, they have not ever have been so secretive about a modular. December 3 seems kind of odd, because they either have to omit it from the calendar altogether, which is now a possibility, or the calendar would require a delayed release to the 3rd in order to include the modular, or you have the unlikely possibility that the calendar goes online Dec 1 and ends up becoming an "official" leak two days before the announcement. Seriously, I do not see what would be so bad about announcing it between today and Friday. -

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Not that I would mind a police station, but fully agree that it could be disappointing if it is too predictable (tied in with a donut shop), or worse, they give it the City treatment by devoting a bunch of parts to a breakaway wall. I dont see how a police station would be "musical". They would be hard pressed to fit all of the necessary components of a police station (check in area, jail, desks, lobby) and add a donut shop onto a corner building. It would be too much like the BB. While I would hope for a classical concert venue, I could see the possibility of it being a disco sort of thing. The light brick would obviously be associated with a strobe ball, and Lego has made minifigs that are suitable for a disco theme. Like a concert hall, this too would require space for a dance floor. If this is to be a corner building, that should take up most of the space on the ground floor. Presumably, the next layer would be hollow or mostly hollow to allow for the strobe ball to be placed. I do not see the strobe being on the ground floor, thus necessitating the dance chamber extending into upper floors. Again, you could devote a lot of parts to the exterior for detail. Yet, I do not know of any disco venues that have an exterior wow factor. If they go that route and make a modern building with a disco, this could potentially save me a lot of money. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
If a musical theme is involved, that certainly is interesting given that last year contained a recording studio while the year before that had a music shop. I would love to see a performance venue of some kind. I could see it having some type of lobby, a balcony, and the main space. Technically, you would only need two floors, and the balcony floor would not place a high demand for parts on the interior, at least at that level. By only having two floors and an interior that does not need a whole lot of parts, they could make an extravagant exterior with the parts budget. It would be the perfect time and place for an Art Nouveau as some have suggested. Funny thing is that I ordered 4 custom violins to make a quartet since Lego itself has yet to come out with anything in the violin family. I could not imagine a classic symphony full of guitars, bugles, and saxophones. Whatever it truly is, we should know soon. -

That Classic Space battle pack will be on backorder by the end of day 1. They might have to put a limit on how many you can buy initially. Yeah, it is going to be sought after big time.- 991 replies
