  1. IF this is true: Perhaps the art is not related to painting (been there , done that with PR). When I think of Italy, I think more of sculptures. Think: Roman fountains, Florence and its famous classical sculptures. The sculptures themselves could be used to tell the story, because we all know in a Jamie Berard building, there has to be a story. They could be done in a way which is meant to be amusing, as was intended in money laundering or cookie prohibition. Although I think having the sculptures themselves be the storyline is less intrusive than designing an entire cookie kitchen or laundromat just to fit the joke. It could actually work well this time. It could be either a sculpture gallery or a studio. The secondary food source could possibly be a gelato stand. As for the small vehicle, my hope would be that it is very small. I get the need for one in FB and CG, but the others-not so much. Probably not a scooter, since that already showed up in PR. My guess would be an "electric" vehicle to promote going green. $200 for three stories seems to fit with the way the modular line is going.
  2. It would not surprise me if this is the modular. The hints that this could be true: (1) There is a disproportionate amount of food available in the modular line, and this would only continue the trend. (2) $200 and about the size of the Brick Bank? Yep, sounds about right given the trends. (3) multifunctional building(s) --check I would imagine a small museum or art gallery with a cafe inside. If this is actually what we are getting, I hope the roof has a dome. It is the only thing I can think of that might justify the price, certainly could be an Italian feature, and it would certainly warrant a new building technique for the roof.
  3. I feel bad for the people who were holding out on ordering the Elf Clubhouse for the Dickens set. (1) the Elf Clubhouse is currently out of stock with no backorder (2) Even if it was available, the threshold is $50 higher. I really wish there had been a way to purchase this set independently, as in directly from Lego.
  4. They could offer polybags like they have made to complement the City line(plants, light fixtures, etc.) Instead, you could have beds, cabinets, tables, chairs. etc in a few polybags. Most of the modulars have some type of living space that could accommodate these. I am in total agreement with those that are not in favor of sacrificing parts and the overall design for a storyline. Most of us display modulars, therefore the interior is unseen for >99% of the time. I would hate to have so much of the part inventory spent on something that is largely going to remain unseen for most of the time. PR remains the best set for me so far. I looks good on all sides. It has a storyline, but you only really needed one extra part to bring it out (the ring). It has a very nice exterior and some nice interior parts, therefore something for everyone. The one exception where I would want a more detailed interior would be in a situation where you could easily see it. Something like an arcade might work. There is a lot of 80s nostalgia out there, and an 80s style arcade would be amazing if done right. Preferably, it would have a way to easily see inside.
  5. With that 150.00 threshold, Bricklink it is.
  6. Not bad at all! A couple of suggestions though: the most iconic feature of the house would be the two eyelike windows near the top, which are missing in your model. Also, finding a way to incorporate a basement build in this would be beneficial as many of the key scenes happen there.
  7. I would love to have an arcade, as long as the interior is well visible from the outside. There are two really good pairings I can think of with an arcade: (1) Pizza parlor/arcade Anyone who grew up in the 1980s knows what I am talking about. This would be even before the time of Chuck E Cheese. (2) Arcade on bottom floor, optometrist just above. Those who need a storyline know where I am going with this ;)
  8. Another advantage of a single purpose building is the likelihood you will have fewer walls and partitions. You might also be able to have an atrium or an interior that does not require the floor to be "complete" like in the TH, BB and GE. That can help keep the cost of production down by allowing for the building to have more details and possibly size.
  9. I dont even think we even knew it was going to be a bookshop until December. Someone might have an idea, but it is hard to tell who really in the know and who is guessing until the reveal is nearly imminent.
  10. Yikes. If the Dickens GWP is part of Black Friday, this is going to be a matter of getting on S&H the moment the window opens up. I will proceed to pick up any available set I would like to have in order to qualify for the GWP before everything goes out of stock. I sure hope they will not wait until December for this offer, otherwise most sets deemed to be desirable are going to be wiped out by the end of November. You cant get a GWP if there is nothing you left that you really want to buy. I am not going to buy a bunch of City/Duplo sets or whatever is left just to get this. The Elf Clubhouse is front and center on the new catalog. Within the catalog are several sets already OOS with no backorder option--looking at you Star Wars. If they are featuring the clubhouse on the cover, I would hope they have prioritized having that in stock. It is going to get really interesting sometime in late November.
  11. But they have waffles! Surely that must make up for everything...... Also, do not forget they have a light in the one place where it being dark would really be useful
  12. I see that it is currently out of stock in the US. We stopped by the Lego Store in Frisco today, and there it was! I definitely had to pick one up after seeing the pictures and reading the reviews. I am amazed how big this thing really is. They had an assembled one in the store window, and that basically sealed the deal. I will probably wait until around Christmas to put it together, but it will be fun to build and watch it come together. This is definitely a solid set, and might possibly back it in a "Best Set of 2020" competition at the end of the year.
  13. Snuffy would have to be a large mold, thus the exclusion. I grew up in the 70s and 80s when Big Bird was the only one who could see him. It was really a cruel thing for years. The "gag" always went along these lines: Big Bird would try to introduce others to Snuffy. While rounding them up to introduce them, Snuffy would slip away, and no one would believe him. It was finally decided by the producers that a reveal to the others was necessary. The biggest reason was that they were afraid kids would be afraid to report bad people like child abusers because no one would believe them, and Big Bird being ridiculed and accused of having an "imaginary" friend would only fuel the unwillingness for kids to speak out. So at last, there was the episode where Elmo helped to keep Snuffy from escaping so everyone could know he was real. I could see how it would be impossible to have all of the characters in the set. It is too bad that fuzziness could not somehow be represented and that Oscar is basically just a head.
  14. I hear you. I am holding out for the Dickens GWP that will happen closer to the holidays. My hope is to buy either the Cantina or perhaps the AT-AT, maybe even Tantive IV. This is actually the first time I have saved enough to even considering purchasing a large set. The one time I finally can afford it, nothing is available--it figures. Really, I would like the Cantina. If the stock shortages continue through the coming months, and there is not even an opportunity to backorder, then Lego is likely leaving a TON of money on the table. Yes, there is COVID and that has hurt factory production. But still, not having any type of backorder or prepay option is not good for either the company or the consumer. Worst case scenario: I simply do not buy anything because I cannot order it and have to Bricklink the Dickens promo.
  15. There is a courthouse in the county where I work which is dying to have a MOC made of it. Sand red would be its dominant color. There simply is no other substitute if I want to do it justice. But yes, I would love to see a sand red structure in the next modular.
  16. I am guessing you are very close. I would imagine Tweety will be an accessory to Granny. Granny by herself is not that exciting to the target audience. Having Tweety be her accessory would certainly sweeten the pot. In Tweety's place, add Speedy Gonzalez. Road Runner as its own minifig is going to look like a theme park character costume, and would likely be as tall as Wile E Coyote. Therefore, I would imagine Road Runner would be an accessory. In it's place, Tazmanian Devil could work. All others seem like a shoo in to me.
  17. Wow---my wife had insomnia last night and ordered it when it "said ships in 60 days" So in one day, they go from not even taking backorders to backorder for 60 days to now anyone can buy it right now. Now if they can do that with the Cantina..........
  18. Also supply issues, otherwise they would at least allow you to backorder it. I sure hope your theory is correct. My wife also seems to think this is a possibility. Guess we will find out in a few hours. Considering that it has been on the website tagged as "coming soon available Oct 1" on the website and will surely be in the catalog, it would definitely send a bad message if you could not at least backorder. "Temporarily Out of Stock" would force me to continuously check stock until it is available. This has been a real issue in some other categories as well--especially Star Wars. I finally save up for one of the big OT sets and none of them are in stock either.
  19. Out of Stock in the US with no option for backorder. Thanks, October 1 nutcracker
  20. Hopefully they will be responsive to feedback as I often have to work in less than ideal lighting conditions. Sometimes, I had difficulty in the past with instructions, especially if there were colors used that were looked fairly close to me on the printed instructions (such as LBG vs DBG or various greens).
  21. It would be interesting to see what the sales and customer feedback has been regarding the Bookshop. I really liked it and felt like it was more of a return to visual appeal on the exterior. There did not seem to be any type of intrusive storyline--just some interesting parts such as the Moby Brick book, the chameleon, the bird's nest, and a few other things. I really enjoyed the split build and ability to detach and rearrange the buildings like the Pet Shop. Many people felt like it was a definite improvement over the Corner Garage in terms of price and visual appeal. I think Bookshop is a step in the right direction, at least for my personal tastes. It was older, looked good on the outside, and did not have too many parts dedicated to the storyline like the DO and BB.
  22. Which would then mean if you really want that Dickens set, you would be risking the Elf Clubhouse going out of stock. You would then either have to forfeit the GWP or try to find something else that will get you over the threshold amount. I will probably just get the WV set Oct 1 along with an advent calendar and the nutcracker, and then later hope there is something else I want when the Dickens GWP window opens up. I would buy the WV set as soon as it released, but the only problem then is the nutcracker could not be on that order (Oct 1 release). These release dates and GWP dates really make things complicated. Plus, even if the desired item is in stock around late Nov/early Dec, there is also a risk with the shipping times. The normal shipping delays around the holidays in addition to the possible COVID issues could make ordering at that time of year risky in terms of getting the item when you need it.
  23. With the door, my only real worry would be the clips on the reddish brown part. I hope they have fixed the brittleness issue with this particular color. I still have a fear of reddish brown clips, because I have a bag full of broken parts in that color. As for the tree, I agree it does not look as good with the tan and lime green. I think silver and gold studs will work better and plan on swapping those out. The waffle maker is definitely a novel idea. There would need to be a batmobile without its wheels, and the Joker must get away
  24. I am basing my guess completely off the one reindeer. It will be the reindeer barn at the North Pole. There will be a Santa sleigh build with the most detailed sled yet to date. There will be either four or eight reindeer in the set. There will be a rein system to connect all of the reindeer and the sleigh. The reins would have silver pieces to represent the bells. The barn would naturally have slots for each reindeer, and possibly names above the stalls, especially if all eight are included. Santa and perhaps a couple of elves will be included. They might also have another North Pole build (as in the pole) itself. That way, all of us who missed Santa's workshop get Santa, the sleigh, and the North Pole. It would not make the Santa Workshop obsolete, because only those who bought that set have the actual workshop as well as Mrs. Clause. For the North Pole, it would be great if they did it in the Polar Express fashion. Make a large tree build, and have the compass rose below it with every direction pointing South. Yeah, I know, it will be a pole.
  25. OK $99-good. I get paid on September 25, two days after release, so hopefully it will not go temporary out of stock by then. I can live with backorder since my order is still taken. The interior looks fine. Not too much on the inside, but it looks fine. The more I think about it, I can see next year's set having something to do with Santa. Elf Clubhouse does work fine as a standalone set, but there are probably a large number of people who are just now getting into WV and missed out on the Santa Workshop a few years ago. If you have elves, you are going to want to have Santa in some capacity. Others have already mentioned that the brick built reindeer will clash with the molded one if you combine those sets. I really think that some type of sleigh set with 4-8 molded reindeer is on the horizon. It could be some other part of the "North Pole" other than the workshop/house along with the sleigh. Maybe a reindeer barn? Back to this one--I like the elves, the design of the house, and the details. Holiday fantasy does not bother me--I prefer to see this as the "North Pole" and not a theme park type of deal.
