70751 Temple of Airjitzu
rodiziorobs replied to Hinckley's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I have only ever got Ninjago sets for my kids, but if (and that's a big if, at that price ) I ever get this, they can have the 'figs but the rest is mine mine mine! I love all the interesting parts and colors, and technique used for the curves on the bridge is brilliant. This set is quite stunning. -
Transfer 43 credits to Ace Jagjit, please! Also, welcome Donnie Bricko!

I totally sympathize with the lack of an actual camera! Still, I think given the limitation it turned out well! -
I totally agree with Kodan's comment above.

What was the last movie you watched?
rodiziorobs replied to EbonHawk's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Red Army, a really interesting doc. about Russian hockey during the cold war. I don't really like much sports (hockey is generally the exception), and I don't watch many documentaries, but this one was very fascinating. -
When I lived in Brazil I saw this kind of thing frequently. Usually the title was also translated (often poorly or dully), but the credits all along the bottom continued in English. Not every movie poster, of course, but it happened. At least this Ant-Man poster has the virtue of being more visually inspired than what we usually get from Marvel.

Mastermind! I'm flattered Love the giant foot, very entertaining! I think the cliffs turned out well. Also, my olive green is limited to two minifig parts, so it looks to me like you have plenty!

Location: Lesser Drigo Tags: Spying, Science Things were not looking so good for Scorpio. His mission last week had been a complete success, other than that well, you know, he got caught. When he came to, his equipment had all been taken, and he had been put into a bright red jumpsuit. With no further ado, he had been transported to the prison compound. He assumed they intended to interrogate him later. In the meantime, he was stuck in a bare cell, under the watch of a continual guard, with food that smelled of coffee, and not even a bench to sleep on. The prison area was also on a very busy corridor, where sneering Octan would come by constantly. At least there were no rats. In place of rats, however, there were other pests. Specifically, scorpions. He wasn’t sure if they were indigenous to the planet, or if they just happened to be wherever Octan was. Whatever the cause, the hallways seemed to be teeming with them at all hours of the day. It comforted Scorpio to know that the Octans were afraid of them. Some more so than others. Scorpio had always liked scorpions—it was actually where he had gotten his nickname. Once, when he was just a little boy, his father had found him playing with one as if it were a puppy, completely unhurt. When his father had reached down to get it away, it struck at and nearly stung him. Amazed at this, his father called him a scorpion trainer. His little sister Arsenica had been unable to pronounce it and so called him ‘Scorpio’ and the name had stuck. No time to dwell on old memories, though… One nice thing about being on the busy corridor was that his cell was right next to the laundry, where he overheard a lot of juicy gossip from the Octans. Some of it was the regular workplace drama, but a lot of sensitive information was being passed around in there. That was where he had learned that while Octan had recognized his data transfer of the beryllium sphere specs, they still did not suspect that their robotics program had been hacked. As he passed yet another dull day to himself, he heard a familiar voice from the laundry room. It was Dr. Long’s voice. She was clearly talking on her phone to someone, probably some Octan bigwig somewhere. He was barely paying attention when suddenly he heard: “hrgrngrngnrgnrnStarstrikergrngrngrrrnhrgrn” Scorpio pressed his ear against the wall to hear better. “Yes, we are sure it’s him. Well, not him, but, you know, another one. Blasted door, open! No, sorry. Look, he had identification on him as Scorpio Starstriker, M.A.N.T.I.S. scientist 1st class. Yes. Yes. Uh…I’m not sure, how should I know why they would sent a scientist on a spying mission?! Okay, why don’t I just ask him, then? stupid bloody…rrrrrr! No. Okay. Yes, that would probably be the best way to do it. come on, No! I didn’t want a pre-wash! Oh, okay. I’ll put together the requisition forms and he should be ready to be released into your custody tomorrow. Fine, next week, whenever you want. Yeah. Sounds good. <click>. You cursed little..! Isn’t someone supposed to be doing this for me? As Scorpio heard Dr. Long’s footsteps he wasn’t sure if this was good news or not. Apparently he was going to be shipped off to somewhere else, but where? And what did Dr. Long mean, “another one?” Had one of his comrades been captured as well? Surely he would have known by now. Perhaps she meant another scientist? Or…another Starstriker? That wasn’t possible, as much as Scorpio wished it could be. Still, there was no time to waste, and Scorpio wasn’t going to be hanging out here any longer. He knew there were still M.A.N.T.I.S. agents operating on Lesser Drigo, but if he was shipped off somewhere else his chance of making it home was gone. He had to escape. He waited until a large swarm of scorpions entered the hall, then he would hack the electronic lock and escape in the confusion. Here they came! Now was the time! Waauuuughh! Scorpio decided that it must have been the faulty Octan wiring that had shocked him. Yeah, that was it. Meanwhile, Octan assigned him a robotic guard that was not afraid of scorpion attacks, and he had to endure more of Dr. Long’s cursing and kicking the machines. He would have to escape some other way…

Fantastic scene! The underwater landscape works really well, and I love that mech with the four articulated legs.

Wow! Everything here is perfect, the vehicles are beautiful, the landscaping, as well. The vacuumdozer is hilarious, and I love the details in the Cadillac, the foliage, and the base(s!).

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 14 Rumors and Discussion
rodiziorobs replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It was an April 1st thread, so none of us took it seriously. Of course, before j2g resurrected it on a non-April-1st day, we had no reason to. Of course, if this is real there is no end to the follow-up questions: Will it be a full series? More than one? Or will it be a full range of sets? Are Pixar or Marvel involved? Are animated classics involved? What about live-action classics? Will they be DVD tie-ins (similar to the Hobbit figs) to promote movies as they are released from 'the Disney vault'? Minidolls or minifigs? Printed heads or strange molds a la the Simpsons, TMNT, and Angry Birds? -
I am assuming the same rule of thumb applies to all tags. What if, in a single week we show several stages of a story (as I and several others have done) and the tag is in question for only one of those stages? Or if we have two tags in focus, one that enables a tech or personal equipment bonus (spying suit), and another that enables a job bonus (science): if both significantly featured in the story/build, would both bonuses be eligible? I know this kind of thing had been honored in the past, but will it in the future, or does that count as bending a rule ?

Wow The details everywhere are well represented in the scale, and the Japanese influence on the style is a nice touch. I also really like how it reads like a Visitor's Guide.

Thank you! Glad you noticed! It was a fun detail to sneak in to the base of the MOC. Thanks! The looking up shot was an afterthought but it went well with the story. Thank you! I am quite proud of those stairs We sure don't! But you know, maybe we'll get better Thanks all! I don't usually do a square base on my MOCs, but it felt appropriate for the lab, and so I wanted to find a way to squeeze that logo in. I am really happy with how it turned out, but it took a long time messing around with it. Octan has it so easy when it comes to brick-building logos... Thank you! That is about the third version of that danged sphere. It is kind of the Lowell sphere, but at only four studs wide it was fiddly as heck to figure out... You'll definitely be seeing more of her... Probably Ha ha, thanks for noticing! I was wondering when that would get brought up Thank you!

Those blue curved pieces at the front have a counterpart, which has holes in the base for a technic pin. If you were able to use that part instead, you could maybe use this kind of technic axle with stud to create friction, similar to Metalbeard's waist connection. (Download instructions here, see pages 29-30) I believe you could hide everything inside the hull. Then there would be those studs to worry about, though... Great looking ship, by the way.

I love the effect of those 1x1s on the ground, and the drill, and most of all, the story! I suppose the Nobel prize may yet elude Big Sal. Someday, Sal, someday.

I love the smooth shape of it (and its predecessors), and how that contrasts against the awesome greebles behind the cockpit.

That creature is fantastic, and suitably creepy Then of course, the mushrooms, the mechs, and the whole composition of it all really fits perfectly together. I don't know how you do it!

The boat and the droid (and that grill!) are top-notch, but the balance of the landscape--the trees and the wonderful water-!) are very well done.

Nice setup with the forced perspective, brilliantly done!
