This is a very tidy vignette with some great clean lines from those pipes. Nicely done!

Location: C10 (Marden) Tags: Vehicle, Land Vehicle Just like that, Scorpio was again relieved of his science-ing duties. One lousy mission assisting Big Sal that just had to go wrong, and he was back doing hazard pay. Oh well, his debt to M.A.N.T.I.S. was nearly paid off, and this job wasn't as bad as Crentium had been. Rumors had been swirling that the Kawashita were sending their fleet toward Marden in an effort to crush M.A.N.T.I.S.' aggression. However, M.A.N.T.I.S. had been unable to confirm the fleet's position, since Kawashita was scrambling their signals. They had picked up some weak transmissions from an abandoned Kawa station in the southern quadrant; they suspected that if the station were operational, they could use it to track the fleet's movement. Scorpio approached slowly, and saw the place in obvious disrepair; it had probably been months since anyone had been here. The door was ajar, and everywhere was debris, covered in a thick layer of snow, as was the roof. As Scorpio entered, he hoped the roof held. Hazard pay, indeed. Hmpf. A few pictures without the vehicle under the spoiler: See more on my Flickr page

The vehicles are quite good, but the landscape is particularly eye-catching

Woah! The ruined lab with all of the debris looks fantastic, and the story is is very good. What happens next week?! Nice inclusion of the Octansoft assistant, by the way.

While I admire the modulars, I am not really a city builder, and so I feel no need to own them. On the other hand, I think it would be neat if every other year or so they released a different-themed modular, whether it be Castle or Pirate or Western or whatever. However, I say that knowing what my budget is, and that it would take a lot for me to agree to hand over $150+ for a single set...when I know that could buy me nearly a dozen PAB cups throughout the year, or a number of smaller sets. A Western modular (like Kris Kelvin's CUUSOO project years ago) might be able to convince me... But I am guessing that is part of why this doesn't really happen often (the MMV and Kingdoms Joust are exceptions): A lot of us, if it came right down to it, would put our money somewhere else, no matter how much we said we liked a certain adult-aged set/theme.

You could try replacing one of the plates with this: or a similar piece, facing inward. Then you would only need to find a way to include a clip to hold it on the inside, and there are a variety of ways to do that, which you could play around with until you found one to build your seats around.

I picked up Dilophosaurus Ambush last night from my local LEGO store. It was the only JW set they had in stock, but the employee there implied that they would be getting more sets in, even though he didn't say when.
-
I also hate using the technic pin wedged into the base of a brick. Besides the finger hinge technique, here is a technique I have used. Take this piece: placed on its side so that the studs on the ring point up and down. Then you only have to worry about hiding the plate off to the side, or you can build onto it, as seen below. Here is a picture from a build I did where I used a few of them to attach the top and bottom of a ship, both with studs facing out: I used three of them here to attach the whole thing securely, two on their sides, and the third holding the other two together. Good luck!

I haven't really had expectations for this theme, as it has been impossible to know what to expect. However, these sketches from CM4Sci leave me optimistic. The set designs are kooky, they kind of remind me of The Lego Movie sets, which I found both both bizarre and charming.
-
Yeah, I blame my fat fingers on mobile. 30, of course.

In further repayment of Scorpio's debt to M.A.N.T.I.S., his wages are garnished at a rate of 100%, expropriating 40 credits to CEO Big Sal.

Real news! Library, eh? Interesting. I wonder if the "gotta catch 'em all" mcguffin for this theme is a bunch of books or scrolls, either with magic spells or blueprints (depending on how tech-heavy the theme is) that the villain is trying to bring together, similar to the story for Elves, Monster Fighters, Atlantis, Infinity Gauntlet, (and so forth) with the library serving as a central place for these things, like Atlantis' portal, the Elves' sky castle, etc.

Well we could serve Andromedan Jumping beans (the kind with energetic little larvae already in them) or the kind that just sits there...you know, Lazy Beans. Congrats to Steve his esteemed Supreme Admiralship SpacerSteve!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 14 Rumors and Discussion

For CMFs, however, they won't replace individual parts. I understand that they may replace the whole bag (you may or may not get the same 'fig), but not parts. -
About paying homages and chinese third party minifigures
rodiziorobs replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Community
I had to point this out to correct a misconception about IP generally speaking. Many people think that legal rights are only infringed upon if money is transacted, but that is not true. If you were to draw a picture of Captain America for your own use, or sculpt a bust of Batman to display in your home, or make yourself a Spider-Man costume, this is completely allowed. If you were to sell it, however, that is illegal. Here's the catch, however: even if you were to give it away for free, that would also be illegal, in the same way that copying an album for a friend is copyright infringement. Money does not have to change hands for it to be criminal. Do companies who hold oft-copied IPs go after this kind of infringement? Very rarely, unless it is (1) done on a large scale, or (2) portrayed as if it were an officially licensed product. Most Chinese bootleggers strike out on both counts, yet enforcement in that market is so difficult that most companies try to simply outdo the bootleggers through better quality product and hard-to-mimic design. On the other hand, most customizers neither work in bulk--most are small-scale operations--nor do they try to pass themselves off as the real deal. Because of that, the IP holders tend to ignore it; pursuing such infringement is not worth it to them. Fan art helps spread brand awareness and goodwill, and the scale to which it hurts their brand or image is negligible, at least enough so that it is not worth it for them to combat it. Does that change the legality of it? No, but there is no real danger of repercussions by the IP holder, so customizers still do it, often ignorant of the fact that they are in fact committing a crime. Whether they sell their work or give it away, reproducing and distributing someone else's IP without consent is criminal. -

Minifig parts and accessories you don't like
rodiziorobs replied to AmperZand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Ah, I actually like this piece quite a lot, but only because it can be useful when building. I'm not sure I have used it as a minifig accessory... -
Is this +1 point total, or does the fleet reward +1 point per build?

Fantastic display! I love how they all feel quite organic and naturally shaped, and the bright colors work well everywhere, too. This is quite a superb build! ...and that Octan logo

Location: C10 (Marden) Tags: Land Vehicle Scorpio was pleased with himself. His mission on Crentium had gone well, and due to his putting in double and occasional triple shifts, he had managed to work off nearly 20% of his restitution to M.A.N.T.I.S. The hazard pay had helped, although it had made the work miserable. His work had been enough to get him off of probation, which meant he could do some actual science now, and possibly be eligible for more spying missions. Scorpio was even further elated that their missions on Crentium's polar regions had finished. He wanted nothing more than to leave that desolate snowfield. His excitement melted when he received his next mission: Marden. Ugh. Kawashita had established an early presence there but abandoned it, and Scorpio knew why; the whole planet was an icy wasteland. He would be accompanying Big Sal on a science expedition. Sal wanted to test a new laser system and suspected Marden had the right kind of fuel to enable his experiments. Andromeda Week 15ish by rodiziorobs, on Flickr Andromeda Week 15ish by rodiziorobs, on Flickr He was piloting a craft designed for quick maneuvering over the snowy terrain, like a rocket with skis. It sported two massive air intakes to enable the velodrive thruster on the back. This particular propulsion system produced a thick green exhaust, but was incredibly efficient in cold weather, enabling very high speeds over the ice. It also featured twin laser prods on the front, in case of the occasional stray Wampa. Andromeda Week 15ish by rodiziorobs, on Flickr Andromeda Week 15ish by rodiziorobs, on Flickr Suddenly a transmission came in from Big Sal. The laser was a success, but he needed more fuel to power it--a kind of bean which grew plentifully on Marden. Scorpio quickly gathered what he could, stowed it in a jar, and sped off to Sal's location. Andromeda Week 15ish by rodiziorobs, on Flickr Andromeda Week 15ish by rodiziorobs, on Flickr

Well that was...something. As far as the build, I quite like the techniques. I am especially fond of the fig who just got smashed by a hammer (the last one)! As for story, I'm hooked. I can't make heads or tails of what the heck it is, but I can't wait for next week's to see what happens!

Minifig parts and accessories you don't like
rodiziorobs replied to AmperZand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Unlike a lot of commenters here, I quite like the mustache and beard pieces! As far as skirts, I like any kind of cloth, although I don't usually use them on minifigs. I guess there aren't really any that I dislike... -
Who else here is into all sorts of themes?
rodiziorobs replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
For starters, I don't really collect sets. I buy them occasionally--usually if they are at a discount or if they are an 'impulse-buy'-priced set (i.e. Mixels)--but everything I get will eventually be broken down and parted out. That said, I like building things of all kinds. I tend toward Sci-Fi, but that ranges from space to steampunk to superheroes, although I have a soft spot for castle/fantasy as well. So for me, I see sets I like from many themes, even if I rarely buy them. I found some Galaxy Squad sets (clearance-priced) which I thought were brilliant, I recently got my first Bionicle set, and am thinking about picking up one or two of the new SW sets. Lately I have also been impressed by what Ninjago has been putting out--Master Wu's dragon, the various "city of ___" sets and the Temple--even though I have yet to pick any of these up, and probably never will. I think LEGO has learned how to design some incredibly detailed and beautiful sets, which is nice to see no matter what theme they are from. -
I'm not usually a fan of the 'scattered studs' method of water, but it actually works well inside those transparent panels! I love the two layer display. The posing of the divers and those underwater vents are also really good. This is a great build.
-
Ah, the screwdriver would also work ok. Of course, the best would be if the popsicle piece came in grey I saw that TBB posted it, congratulations! I wouldn't mess with it either at that point! I might have to reverse engineer this so I can have it on display myself...once again, very nice job.
