Location: F03, Forring Tags: MANTIS, Land Vehicle, Military Double D's Log 37: So since I've been around a while, some of MANTIS corp. wanted me to look at some new experimental vehicles. There were lots of excellent ones, but one in particular stood out to me. It looked liked an ancient battle wheel or something. Sure it could truck through just about anything, but its defenses were disgraceful. Any hover bike could zoom around it and immobilize the thing. Anyway, I gave it a grade of E (in the A-F scale). ~ DD out ----------------------------------------- So yeah, I'm not exactly happy with this, I had something cooler in mind, but I didn't have the time to do it. The wheels turned out pretty cool, and it's amusing to roll around and shoot at things, but it just doesn't look that good to be honest. Still, I had fun with the time I was able to spend on it, and that's all that counts right?

Octan remote scientific prospecting Outpost, North pole of Freegate : Under the command of the Kharkovshanka, some prospecting, mining and drilling vehicles waiting for departure to harvest Mithril. Few times ago, the Professor Thaum landed his shuttle, arriving on the request of the head scientist of the station... the last ice boulder retrieved just arrived and according to all the sensors there's something else than mithril inside. The time has come, the harvesting procession start the engines and are going to leave the base. It's also time to rerun all the sensors actives devices, the ionisation of the northern Freegate's atmosphere, following daybreak and issuing with polar aurora will blind all MANTIS scanning possbility for 7h 58m 13s . Location: Jurin II - E02 Tags: Spaceship, Land vehicle, Civil Building Space over Jurin II is clear, for now, and open for Octan Pilot John Hannibal to search for his Jurin colonists. When reports of the hostile invasion came in, Hannibal feared the worst for all of the families the had recruited to Jurin II. He knew they were a hardy bunch, but the wretched outlaws of M.A.N.T.I.S. were equally horrid and violent. What they would do to a family of colonists kept Hannibal from sleeping for the last two weeks. As soon as Octan's fleet got to Donwarr, Hannibal got his cargo ship out of the system before any orbital skirmishes could close off his route. His ship was loaded with supplies, but the main objective was to pull as many women and children out of E02 before M.A.N.T.I.S. came back for more rape and pillage. "John, I'm picking up a heat signature inside, but it appears to be from the fireplace. Nothing human, that is alive at least. I'm sorry John." "What's the count up to, 14?" "15 empty homesteads John." "Well this one at least has a hot fireplace, maybe they left recently. I'm going to go check it out." "John, there's something else. Two cold-blooded life forms are in the trees. They look like octopuses." "The Jin's mentioned these before. I think they're suppose to be friendly, but I wasn't expecting them in this area. The one I'm testing this week is so shiny and sleek. Can't wait to give it a spin! Location: The Fascini Cluster - E11 Tags: Spaceship, Land Vehicle, Military, Building A quick jump to the surface of Freegate led Octan's acting CEO, John Hannibal, on a much larger and more significant mission to welcome the Merchant Confederacy into Octan's family. Much of Hannibal's recent work would be much easier, as his pool of colonists exponentially rises. New colonists in greater numbers would mean trading networks could take the place of the Mercy Brandy's irregular supply drops. But with more colonists, other threats would present themselves. Zoid slavers, for example, would soon find these soft targets. It was this problem that Hannibal and Callahan were looking to solve in the Fascini Cluster. Most of Octan's pilots were experienced in taking long hauls across desolate space and making smooth landings in alien atmospheres; there had been little need for combat roles as Octan's dominance had always come from procuring more strategic market shares instead of stockpiling bullets. But there were several select pilots that Hannibal knew could lead combat detachments to protect the civilian convoys. After catching a ride on Long's Axle, Hannibal intercepts and takes on a delivery of tech heading out to the very outpost they seek. Their ride is a light space hauler used for navigating between asteroids. While not fit for the greater depths of space, this small rig is incredibly light and therefore maneuverable in the vacuum of space. They will not be able to go far, but their pilot's outpost is just outside of the regular rock formations of the asteroid field. [E11] Asteroid Short-Range Hauler - 1 by Ryan McBryde, on Flickr The outpost was chosen because of it's vicinity to the Fasicini Cluster. A solitary rock, the pilots would not have to compete with other asteroids immediately on takeoff. They could therefore set quicker and more accurate attack vectors, should the main station or outlying miners come under attack. Callahan chuckled a little as Hannibal told them where they were going, but he wouldn't say just yet what was funny. [E11] Asteroid Outpost - 1 by Ryan McBryde, on Flickr Finding the outpost empty, the two unload their cargo and inspect the Octan hardsuit they came to resupply. Their cargo was a number of new attachments that would allow their pilot to make more extensive repairs on-site. This current model was good for repairing scrapes in the hulls of both ship and habitat, but it would need finer implements to keep their ships active longer. [E11] Asteroid Outpost by Ryan McBryde, on Flickr Callahan was especially eager to see the inside of the outpost, so the two headed inside to wait for and discuss their pilot. The pilot, Ziggy, flies an O.S.F. 1983 Vandura, the Pentacle. It is a tight and highly maneuverable fighter ideal for the Fascini Cluster but vulnerable in open space due to it's speed. While quick to accelerate, the low overall speed of this craft make it easy prey outside of the asteroid belt. The extremely advanced Octan stealth technology, developed by Executive Pombe, can provide a great deal of protection from this, as long as the pilot can avoid drawing unwanted attention to himself. However, Callahan insists: "But, you have to provide better accommodations for your pilots. First, I want them living with the colonists whenever possible. And second, don't make them live in a hollowed out piece of space-whale dung, like you're doing with poor Ziggy. John, there's a reason why this 'rock' is outside the main cluster... it's not a rock..." C&C appreciated.

Zimunsk Ocean Expedition Part #1 Tags: Vehicle Space/sub <--not to sure, engineering, G06 place: G06 Zimunsk Ocean Expedition for Biomass rich for future research. Mrs. Smith has been tasked to work out the kinks of the new submarine research vesicle O-EV-003 dropped off on the planet G06 Zimunsk, we managed to find this shifting ocean and prepare our cargo ship (next story part) and drop the sub in. The waters here are dark, dark blue and offer little light but for now mrs. Location: E11 - The Fascini Cluster - "A tight swirling cluster of Awesomnium rich asteroids." Tags: vehicle, engineering Open Channel to Octan: For some reason Octan has seen a decline in personal, not sure why, must be vacation time or something, anyways my wife and I were pulled from our work on H-06 to set up a communication link to Engineering HQ to set up an outpost for future mining of Awesomnium. I was able to bring a student from the engineering division to let him get his hand dirty to, understand what it is there work comes out to be in the real world. Location: B08, Greater Direstan Tags: MANTIS, land vehicle Double D's log 20: After last weeks awesome speeder driving, I've now been tasked to drive tools and supplies around the base here. It's a pretty neat vehicle, it can hold lots of tools, pull quite a bit of weight, and even the front tire folds up so it can hang on a rack when we're done using it. Still, it's slow, and kinda boring to drive. Guess I shouldn't have said how much fun driving is and instead have specified I like driving fast vehicles!

Location: G07 Hennigan II Tags: Land vehicle, spying Previously... Just admit it, you're lost. I'm not lost! I'm just not exactly sure where we are, or where the Octan outpost is. But the woods seem to end over there, so let's head that way. Ah hah! Told you! That's a guy in a mech, not an outpost. Yeah, but I'm the master of natural charm and quick wits. I bet I can smooth talk him into telling us where the outpost is. And then we can download those maps we need. Follow my lead... Greetings fellow employee! Ssssshhhhhhhhhhhh! Can't you see I'm catching butterflies?! Oh... yeah... obviously. Errr.... why? I'm after the rare black-bodied orange-wing! It only emerges from deep in the woods for a few days each autumn! That doesn't really answer my question... But anyway, we're just a couple of Octan workers who have lost our way - could you point us in the direction of the top-secret outpost? What am I, stupid? You're quite obviously M.A.N.T.I.S. spies! Every Octan employee on Hennigan II knows how important catching the rare black-bodied orange-wing is! Listen you- Uh, Long? There's something on your head... Oh wow! It's the rare body orange... black... thing! That you were talking about! Don't be an idiot. If a real rare black-bodied orange-wing was on your head, you'd know about it. Trust me. No, I think this really is one! Maybe it's like a baby or whatever! Ugh, fine, I'll have a look, just to shut you up. Now Long! Get him! What the- So much for smooth talk. Hey, it worked didn't it? And now we have an Octan disguise AND a mech. And sorry guy, but unless you want a real beating from Long here, you'd better tell us where the outpost is. sniff... fine, it's due north, about ten minutes in the mech. You M.A.N.T.I.S. folk really are mean and nasty. Yeah, yeah. Say, what's that noise? Butterflies! We need to run! Ooh no, I'm sooo scared of some butterflies! Er, Sal? I think he might be right... Its clear to me now that they wanted me working for Mantis since they wanted me to capture the SAM Base but why me and only me, Even for this Mantis base its still weird that nobody is here to my knowledge, strange. I just hope this Mantis Engineer Uniform and the credentials works for me otherwise its lights out. Week 66 003 by boxerlego, on Flickr Boxerlego at the computer station for the spaceship: Wow, Now this spaceship is a modified Mantis Space Assault Vehicle that is capable of being converted to a Infantry DropShip, Now That is Interesting. Looks well armored too. But what is this next file there is not much here, it don't read like its for a spaceship at all. Now that sounds like a big cannon right there, no way this ship here could mount a cannon of that size. Now this is something of interest, I better save this and send it back to Command. See what they say about it. End.

Boxerlego: My newest project looks great But I'm just an Engineer. What business do I have with a spaceship. Captain Logan: Well I cant explain everything to you right now but you have big Engineering business that deals with this spaceship. For the time being just get in and get the feel of flying this Spaceship. Don't worry the Spaceship is capable of flying itself by the flip of a switch after all who else is going to fly when your asleep. For now just think about the Spaceship and what you want to achieve with it. Oh look here are the keys already in the controls and here is that switch the Captain is talking about. Ship begins to respond and answers my questions. In order to start and launch spaceship, press the green button next to the keys this starts the engines and then you engage the Selector on the right in the D position to control the Launch of the spaceship yourself but for Spaceship control put the Selector in the C position and then the switch next to the throttle then look at the controls to see if the Spaceship is clear for take off and once cleared for take off just engage the Throttle and the spaceship will begin to take off. Boxerlego: Oh this is great the space ship talks and all I got to do is just press this green button here and flip this switch and then I bring this here in the C position and when the ship is ready for take off I just engage in the throttle. Ship: That is correct. Boxerlego: Well, here we go. 63_015 by boxerlego, on Flickr (while flying around the spaceship reveals why boxer is the one flying the spaceship) Boxerlego: Wow, that is amazing to know so you chose me to fly this spaceship. Spaceship: This is correct. I told the captain that I have chosen you to be pilot of me and not only Pilot but Engineer as well. Boxerlego: That is very moving stuff spaceship I just got one question Why Me? Spaceship: I've selected you not because you were the best pilot. I'm the best Pilot, but I selected you because you put the Ninja Robot named Ronin back together and is now under your command. This is one of the reasons why I have chosen you. Boxerlego: So how do you know about Ronin? Spaceship: It was my objective to capture Ronin, I'm the vehicle that brought Ronin over to Octan, In fact I was able to deconstruct Ronin's core memory so the Octan scientist could safely examine the robot but there was a Problem even though we did all this for the safety of the Octan scientist Ronin was able to reconstruct its core Memory and regain control after one scientist deemed it safe to put Ronin back to gather again and 14 of the best and brightest Octan robotics scientist lost there lives in that facility including my Engineer and Project Developer. The only scientist who survived that was strongly against it in the end was only able to save himself. And after recapturing Ronin for a second time I deconstructed Ronin's core memory so the last remaining Octan scientist could safely dissemble the Ninja Robot once again. The last remaining Octan Scientist said that he told them not to put this Ninja Robot back to gather and they didn't listen to him. This Scientist is Captain Logan. Captian Logan knows all about Ronin technically and has in fact has completely reconstructed Ronin entirely but he couldn't complete the ninja robot after what happen and has allowed Ronin to sit on a shelf in a safe many years uncompleted. Boxerlego: Incredible, I dont know what to say, I'm speechless, But I will say this, Thanks for accepting me to be your Engineer. I will do my best.
