  1. Innovative lighting effects, used well here I really like that JanDroid, too. I always thought of the gates in the same way, that you needed a special way to activate them but that they themselves were had a fixed location. Now that I think of it, it reminds me of the Mighty Max cartoons I used to watch as a kid. I did the same with my fig and eventually settled on a story, but now that I have the story all laid out I want to break from it and do something more random (!). Of course, I haven't posted a regular build in weeks so it doesn't much matter Once again, great job here for M.A.N.T.I.S.
  2. I love the way all the stairs and terraces weave among the great rockwork and buildings, especially when everything is placed at odd angles. It all works together very nicely; fantastic work you've done here!
  3. Stopped by today and got a cup full of mostly green 2x1 plate hinges to make some trees come Christmastime. I also threw in the odds and ends from the shelf near the wall. At my store there are always has a bunch of random things, from dismantled display sets to parts from the BAMF (ahem, Build-A-Minifigure) bins that kids have dragged over. I know they technically aren't supposed to be there, but I have asked the cashiers and they encouraged me to take it (probably so they don't have to sort through it themselves!) I would never put anything there intentionally, but when I find stuff I take advantage of it . Today's find was an Airjitsu spinner, minus the propeller part. Probably; my store has had them for a few weeks.
  4. I think the MF sets sold pretty well, actually, but that that the theme was retired because TLG entered negotiations to acquire the rights to Scooby-Doo. Whatever leftover designs they had that would have been a second wave got rolled over into the upcoming Monsters CMF. Just my two bits.
  5. I guess my opinions on Pixar sequels are exactly opposite of the mainstream: I prefer Cars 2 over the original by a longshot, and the same goes for Monsters University. Conversely, I thought the Toy Story franchise peaked with TS2, and that TS3 would have been better served as a short film (i.e. the first and last five minutes, without the whole 'daycare mafia' distraction). I am interested to see how TS4 goes, though, especially if it follows Woody tracking down Bo Peep. Finding Dory sounds like it should also be a long-form short film (i.e. 20 minutes), otherwise I'm afraid it will be too much filler. As for Incredibles 2, I am excited but concerned. The original was a superhero movie when we didn't already have a glut of superhero movies. If they kind of toy with the genre like in the first one ("You sly dog, you got me monologuing!"), but dial that up a bit more, I think it could be excellent; otherwise I worry it will come off as average or derivative.
  6. Me too, a little! If it were me I would take random close-up pictures of obscure parts in the catalog, then watch everyone's minds explode trying to deduce what they were... Good thing it's not me with the catalog, eh?
  7. It might be because sales were not as good for the Winter Market the year before. Likely, TLG misinterpreted that as lagging interest in the theme itself, rather than just that particular set. As a send-off, they planned the Santa's Workshop as a finale to the theme, which then exceeded sales due to being a better set overall, and possibly a TLM effect. As for TLG's apparent inability to get a new set together in a short time, I can believe it. They do extensive testing on a set's durability, and then they would have to ensure they could get the parts manufactured, assembled, packaged, and shipped in time for sale starting in September and sustained through the season. Plus, they probably waited until Feb or March to go ahead with the decision, once they had firm sales numbers for the end of 2014. I can see all those steps adding up to a very tight production schedule for a new D2C (i.e. smaller production run, lower margins), so they decided to cut out the most time-consuming step, which was design. The previous set was sturdy, stable, had sold well enough, and was also the oldest one they had done, meaning there would be less chance for consumer fatigue (imagine if this year's was a rehash of the Santa's Workshop! Practically everyone would grumble!), so it made the most sense for an update. And then they release a statement saying they probably won't ever do this again, because they also would have preferred not to have done it this way.
  8. It would be, if I could afford Temple of Airjitsu... I hope there are several smaller but great sets, rather than a single $200 set that was worth it.
  9. The transparent plate with pin is also in the upcoming not-a-re-release of the Winter Village Toy Shop. Not sure on quantity, but you can see it in photos of the box art.
  10. sandwich.
  11. Well, I for one would have liked to see something new, but since I never got the original I'm not too sad about it. Additionally, this one has new pieces which I am excited for, like the transparent round 1x1 tile with pin. You can see it on the red biplane micro... Maybe there are other new parts, as well?
  12. Google ftw! You are correct--seriously, it is a fantastic movie, definitely worth checking out (the English subtitled version is on YouTube, but you may have to search the original Portuguese title O Que E Isso Companheiro?) Looks like its open to anyone!
  13. Well, I guess turn what you have into a Cat B entry, if possible. Still got two weeks for that.
  14. Well, either no one has seen this movie or no one wants to venture a guess. (Or maybe it's just that nobody has read this thread in awhile ) So, here's a hint When this Brazilian movie was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, the author of the book the movie is based on applied for a visa to enter the U.S. for the premiere. However, he was denied entry because of an act of terrorism committed against a U.S. ambassador in the 1960s; incidentally, the movie itself tells the story of that very act.
  15. Mine] for M.A.N.T.I.S.!
  16. Challenge 2 Category C **(This scene is not chronological with the rest of the story involving Scorpio, but actually happens much later)** Since initial probes had discovered some anomalous signals emanating from the center of Andromeda, M.A.N.T.I.S. had commissioned several new starfighters and other craft. Building these new ships meant lots of new parts to be inventoried and managed. Having been dismissed from both Spying and Science duties for the time being, Scorpio was stationed on one of M.A.N.T.I.S.' orbiting hangars where these ships were being finished and outfitted. He was put in charge of assigning micro-reactors and the refined awesomnium rods that would M.A.N.T.I.S. engineers had developed to power these new fleets. Scorpio didn't mind the task at all, since the micro-reactors had been designed around the 'isotopic mushroom goo he had discovered on Barnius a few months earlier. Andromeda's Gates Challenge 2 (Cat C) by rodiziorobs, on Flickr A few more photos, of more angles, without the' figs, and the armored exterior of the corridor (even though Cat C is just to show off the interior)
  17. Robo Horse by rodiziorobs, on Flickr Visited family out of town this weekend, saw this sculpture while out for a walk, and immediately thought of this thread. Sadly, I don't think we'll get anything like this from Lego but I would buy out the store if they did
  18. Woah! It looked good in LDD, but it looks superb in actual bricks. Well done, glad you got the technical issues resolved.
  19. edit: looks normal to me, and I am on mobile...
  20. This exactly. I don't want the F4 back for the F4's sake. Honestly, I think those characters would translate better to screen in cartoon format, anyway (like Big Hero 6, or The Incredibles...which itself is kind of like F4). I want them back so Marvel can use Dr. Doom and all those cosmic villains. The Skrulls alone would give some great stories (Secret Invasion, Kree-Skrull war). Fox can keep the F4 themselves for all I care, just give back everything else.
  21. Indeed, I probably wouldn't have guessed if you hadn't narrowed it down like that. Two pictures for this one: Or should I say, duas imagens. Hopefully someone else has seen this.
  22. I believe that will come once we get something more substantial like images or an official set description.
  23. A study could come out proving ABS to be toxic and I would probably still keep at it. I don't have--and probably never will have--the time and money I would like to spend on it, but I have a hard time envisioning a scenario in which I throw out everything I already have.
  24. 's head
  25. Ice planet, but in Blacktron M.A.N.T.I.S. colors! love it!
