Until the release of the Maersk train, the helmet http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3833 in maersk blue was rather pricey, as mentioned on http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=66556 Since the release of the train, the price of the part dropped.

Amazing. It was already nice in LDD, but in real bricks it looks really good! It is quite likely that you'll be amongst my votes, as in addition of that good result it is a car model that I really like :) -
Wow really nice! I wish this was an official set, so I could buy it directly :D

[MT] Renault 17
antp replied to antp's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks :) I'm not fully satisfied with the hatch: I should use 2x2x2 slopes instead of 2x2x3, but I have only one in black, and I'll have to find a way to integrate these if I order them on Bricklink later. The trans-black rear window should be replaced by trans-clear, but I do not have the 1x2x3 panel in stock for that. I finished the roof and hood (photos later), I'll do the seats next week and then make a Bricklink order for the few missing details I think. -

Some progress from yesterday I attached the windscreen: Finished the door and the sides: (about the black hinge, I do not know yet if I'll just lengthen the line through the door or try to get more yellow hinges from Bricklink) Building C-pillars: I didn't find a way to properly make something looking like grilles like the real one, I guess plain black is good enough (I may try to replace that by dark grey, but I'll have to get parts from Bricklink for that) Building the roof and attaching the hatch: I have to finish the hood (I'll try to make one that can open), door mirrors and the roof, and add seats inside. For doing things like that, I'm happy that my parts are sorted first by color, as noticeable here yellow and black are the most used: -
For the Palace Cinema I used the gold lattice part: And the black one for the Pet Shop. But I'd also like a simple glass instead, wondering why Lego does not make it.

Nice trucks! I like how they look at the same time brick-built (rather than using big parts) and rather realistic/detailed. edit: and I see it is an old thread from 2009 that was upped by utfcmac here above...

I do not recall someone having posted photos/inventory with sand blue in the PaB thread ( http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=27795 ), only medium blue (1x1 & 1x2). And myself I only found medium blue.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
antp replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Sometimes the best way to do something is not doing it at all I liked the Town Hall despite it looks a little too "massive". I do not really care which designer makes the next building, I do not consider any of the line as "failed" (I even like the Market Street, considering how it was made). I like to have a few buildings made by Jamie, as indeed he designs them very well, but I also like to have some made by other people, to get variety like in real life: not all buildings are made by the same architect! -
For parts of which I have low quantities, I regroup similar ones. For example I have a lot of 1x2 purple tiles from the pick-a-brick wall, they have their own bin. But all other purple plates/tiles go together in a second bin as the quantities are much lower for these (and bricks in a third one, and a fourth one for rounded parts, as I got many via the Harry Potter buses). And for rarer colors (aqua, azure, light orange, silver, etc.), there is usually only one or two bins for all the parts of that color.

Thanks for the comments! Next step, finishing the chassis and making the rear bumper: Adding the "Wedge Belt Wheel" ( http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=4185 ) as wheel cover gives a wheel style closer to the real one. The shape of the rear bumper isn't bad, but the junction with the rear fender isn't easy as I couldn't find a way to make that better than with an inverted slope: Maybe some rounded part could look better, but I didn't find a better one in the few I have, I'll see later if I have to make a Bricklink order if there is something more suitable for that. The only few Technic parts are in the chassis, as quite common for Model Team: As you may notice on the first pics, I had a space problem between the upside-down part of the front fender and the upper part. The reason is that there is a half-plate offset between that fender and the chassis: the fender is attached to the front, and the use of hinges for that wasn't a good idea after all. So I decided to attach the front differently: All is then more efficiently attached And no more annoying half-plate difference I also tried to replace the 2x1 slope placed after the front wheel (see first pic) by a 3x1 slope (as seen in the last pic above), I am not sure which one of the two looks better. Maybe it would be better if I did a yellow plate layer + a black plate layer instead of the black inverted slopes - I'll test that later. -

Ditto, seeing this thread I was going to post both links (mine and yours) but then I saw it was already done :D My apartment MOC is indeed gigantic compared to a modular house, as I tried to keep the scale rather than fit it with other buildings. Some day I plan to make my parent's house in a more modular-compatible scale, as it is then a row house more in the style of the modular, the interesting part would be for the outside rather than the inside, and it would be too big for me to make at the correct scale anyway.

Nice model choice, I am impatient seeing it built in real bricks :) -
For the model team contest, I decided to make a Renault 17. I wanted to make that in Lego since some time, that's the good time for it I guess. For those who do not know/remember what a Renault 17 looks like, here is the version I use as reference (1973-1975) http://www.flickr.co...@N04/8560121531 http://www.flickr.co...@N04/8560121645 Made between 1971 and 1979, as Renault 15 and 17. The Renault 17 was also exported to USA. The logo was moved from hood to the grille in 1973. The face-lifted version of 1976 had a different front and rear. They were replaced by the Renault Fuego in 1979. More info on Wikipedia Roughly 38x14 studs: Features turning wheels (via the knob on the roof) and opening doors. The hatch can open but it requires to remove the 1x8 tiles on the side, so it does not really counts. Previous work-in-progress posts here below... ********************** I thought it would be good to share the progress of the project. I build directly with bricks (no LDD) because I try to use the parts I already have (which adds a challenge). For the scale reference, I used the Model Team wheel. Thanks to EUOfficer's topic which gave me the idea, I printed a blueprint of the car (the only picture I found...) scaled for a 42mm wheel, that makes things much easier. The downside of using such wheels/scale is that the 1x1 round plate is too small for headlights, and the 2x2 too big. I originally planned to do that at a slightly larger scale, but that will be for another time. The front has studs in four directions (top/bottom/front/back) Starting fenders, and I've put turning wheels to make it more Model Team... ... even if that already causes a slight scale problem. So the front will be 1-stud too long compared to the blueprint. It is more "blocky" than the real one, but I'm still satisfied with the current result. I replaced the 2x6 plate of the grille by three 2x2 I started to make the rear of the car, but I haven't yet made photos, that will be for later.

Would be good to include a poll to the thread, even if we can't list all colors we could have color-categories to get some statistics, e.g. by hue : black/greys/white/brown-tan/yellow-orange/red/purple-pink/blues/greens Maybe also combine that with a second poll for color category (classic 80s color, sand-color, pastel/friends color, etc.)

I like green, partially because it was very rare when I was kid (back then it was only found in a few Castle sets and in Octan sets) I also like sand green / sand blue for buildings, but I am sad that sand red disappeared :(

Even if you exclude the erosion, the waterfall isn't perpetual: its power source is the sun (which isn't perpetual, it is just a very long life). The water that is at the top comes from rain/snow, which comes from clouds, themselves resulting of the evaporation of water from the lower levels. That evaporation is due to the sun. (and I do not see what you tried to explain with magnets, but as said in the quoted posts, it is not a source of energy)

But that was the start of the discussion: he saw on the similar site that a few months back the store had a part he wants (but hasn't been updated since), and he hopes it is still there ;)

I already several time ran out of the 1x1 brick with 1 or 2 stud on side. They tend to be quite useful for SNOT building, but as it is a more recent part I have less of those than the classic headlight brick. I remember when I discovered it, I thought "I hope they'll not replace the headlight brick by that"... and in the end both are complementary, allowing different things.

The olive cheese slopes appeared in many stores last year (I got a bunch from Wijnegem's store), so it is possible that they're still available there, but it may also be out of stock since that inventory was made.

I build "official" sets in the living room in front of the TV. But for MOCs I do that on the desk around which I store parts: http://antp.be/temp/lego/P1090981.jpg It is a little small, and being in the sleeping room the space is rather limited: no real expansion further than that, though that I added a higher plastic drawer column on the left and bought a bed with drawers under it. edit: here is a more recent photo: http://antp.be/priv/lego-apt/real_P1100071_1.JPG So no TV while MOCing, sadly, just the radio. With a little more space I could use the computer (laptop) as TV but now I do not really know where to put it. That's possibly one of the reasons why I MOC not as much as I wished, since I also have so many TV series to watch :D Some day I should convert my second room (previously used for the computer, now just used as storage) to a proper Lego room.

Isn't there a risk of import tax when coming back to Thailand, if you officially export it from Germany? :D
-
For the next places, if you include all produced parts and not only those included in sets, the 2x4 bricks and other classic bricks like that may have a high production number because of their use in a lot of giant Lego sculptures in parks and for events.

A solution is using regular 2x8 plates even if it is not as well attached (if it is for a temporary layout). Last time I assembled my 12V rails, I ended up using the simple white plates of the blue tracks also for the grey tracks. There is a way to detach the grey sleepers properly (that does not require much force), but it is not easy to find (and I am not sure I achieve it each time), and anyway it is not easy to not break them.
