[WIP] Third Party Motor
JM1971 replied to MrNumbskull13's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Even lego XL motors can grind axles to dust, place it on a dark towel or black piece of card and run it for a while then tap it after to see if there is powder coming off from the parts. -
[MOC] Monster Truck 6x6
JM1971 replied to Madoca 1977's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Madoca you cost me a fortune at bricklink, always excellent and polished work. -
Other ideas could be rear lights/brake lights, bright head lights, cop/fire/ambulance lights & siren, floor lights, I dont think it costs anything to sell from bricklink, second hand goods is free from income tax and vat. (check your country though) Something I dont like about the new power funtions is the permantly attached wire, the old motors had seperate and repairable wires, see what other people think.

Score Fixing on Rebrickable
JM1971 replied to JM1971's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The site has no flood protection, views can be manipulated easily by anyone, its more a weakness than score fixing, it just took me a little time to find out what was going on. I added 400 views on my moc in about 5 mins, no one was aware of this, someone should tell them. -
Score Fixing on Rebrickable

The site could do with ratings and limit each registered user one rating per moc, quick searches based on ratings, views, dates, etc, flood protection on view counts, new mocs should get 14 days on the front page to allow ratings a chance. Like Lipco said the current random search is not very good and some great mocs dont get a chance. -

Smug sense of satisfaction, the same reason any one else releases stuff there. -
Score Fixing on Rebrickable

Theirs nothing wrong with your models and far better than anything I can do, mine did ok because its built all from 9398 set and was lucky enough to stay on the new mocs page long enough to mass enough views to get onto the hottest mocs, pure luck. Releasing a moc on a few forums at the same time as you put it on rebrickable would proberbly get a lot of views. -
Score Fixing on Rebrickable

Close enough explanation from what I've seen, although everyone should bear in mind everything is bent to some degree. -
Personally I wouldent buy from ebay, the one on amazon I linked a few posts ago maybe the leds could be bent to fit in the yellow brick, I can solder but not very well. On another note you light is very realistic in the videos but what I noticed is the jerky movements of the lego motors makes the vehicle look unrealistic, I am looking into soft start circuits that will smooth out the jerky movements when a electric motor starts up. I found a soft start circuit but don't know what all the symbols mean http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/JM1971/HondaATC/soft_start_circuit.png

Yeah, even lego's non violent policy makes way for star wars and other money making franchises. -
I noticed views counts on this page (scroll down to hottest mocs and you have to be logged in to see the views) were going down, I massed around 1500 for my moc (Honda ATC) and yesterday it went down to 800 and now its not on that page anymore. At the same time star wars mocs you have to pay for have moved onto the page. Even jurgens moc has been losing view counts. Whats the point in puting hard work into something when they just fix the scores?

There is something called a 'soft start', my dad used to work in a crane factory and told me its done electronically and is necessary on cranes. Hopefully I can splice up a lego extension cable and build a circuit in between, this would work with all my sets more easily without modifying them. Using something mehacnical like the clutch will wear over time, and something like a flywheel would strain the motor. Found this, havent a clue if it works with 8 volts.
