So both in same, 1:18 scale. Are they suppose to be representations of real, existing vehicles or totally own design? What functions and features would they have? Whats the part limit for each?

1:8 scale offroader and semi trailer? Those sound like really massive projects, I can't even imagine a 1:8 scale semi with original LEGO wheels and tyres. A 1:8 scale offroader is easily some 6000+ pieces, while a semi... Tens of thousands, especially with a trailer.

Feels so nice, to have the approval from the original's designer. 😊 I had a 2 day vacation and decided to use the most of it.

So... You're looking for someone to design models for so, so you can resell the designs forward?

Well, out of the 30 models I currently have assembled, 10 are actually manual. I do build them but not as often. I will try to surprise you more often Thanks for the praise, usually when I get into a project I can work on it form some 8-10 hrs/day. Yes, the real one has limiters, I could add some, but they would eat up the valuable ground clearance. Since this is not going a commercial product, I don't think they are needed. Yes, at this scale there's no easy way to add rubber pieces for these small track links, so as with everything it's a compromise.

42069 Extreme Adventure One of my favourite sets, designed by @grohl back in 2017 in 2/3 scale. The model was originally deisgned in LDD and than replicated with real bricks. It measures 29x16x18 cm and is built out of exactly 1444 pieces. (Replicated) Functions: Articulated and functional tracks All wheel drive Working fake V8 engine driven by the tracks Live axle suspension on both axles using soft shock absorbers HOG steering Bistable opening doors using small shock absorbers Opening side panels with fire extinguishers Lockable rear door with a friction based locking mechanism Rear compartment can slide out, revealing a showel Liftable roof with an openable tent actuated by the small linear actuator A working winch with friction to keep it in place Video of the model: Photo of the original reference: Photos of the finished downscaled replica: Discussion topic:

Thanks to the holidays, I managed to find the time to build and record the the finished 2/3 scale model of the 42069:. It measures 29 x 16 x 18 centimeters and it's made out of exactly 1444 pieces including the string: As with the original, the doors open and a shock absorbers keep them in either position, here's a quick animation of the doors opening and closing: Under the hood, there is a pin-based V8 fake engine, driven by all wheel drive: In order to demonstrate the fake engine, I pushed the model along a carpet: There are a lot of details replicated in the rear such as opening side doors, the rear door can be locked and the roof can be lifted to reveal the tent: This is how the roof raises and the tent opens up with a help of a mini linear actuator: Of course the model also features a live axle suspension on both axles, supported by 4 soft shock absorbers: It's quite bouncy, especially in the rear: Can't forget a photo of the underside: And lastly the photos from the updated digital version too: To summarize, here's a detailed video of the finished project: As mentioned in the video, I'm really happy about how this project turned out, it's really refreshing to try something different from time to time. Now if only I could get the fenders and connectors in dark purple, than it would be perfect!

[TC25] 8479 Barcode Truck
Zerobricks replied to Berthil's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Woah, what a cool project and brilliant idea using racks to program it! -
Thanks for the praise! Here's the progress update, slowly but surely finalizing the final details. Currently at over 1360 pieces! The rear door lock works and the roof with the integrated tent can be lifted using a Mini Linear Actuator. Also the rear drawer can be pulled out. And of course the most important photo for the true Technic enthusaists Can't wait to build a physical version over the weekend and to post more updates.

I chose this set, cause it's one of my favourite official sets, I really like the styling, functionality and details @grohl managed to cram into it. Started working on this idea yesterday in LDD, currently some 50% done, please note that not all colors are defined yet. It will feature all of the functions from the original 42069, here you can see the fake engine: And of course, the intricate door opening mechanism which I still have to test IRL: Still have to finish the tent-lifting mechnism, rear slide-out drawer and the rear doors. The only issue was with that I had to replace the purple with another color, so I chose Dark Azure, but other than that so far so good.

Fake electric motors
Zerobricks replied to TheTruePA's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I was thinking about this before too, but I think having a simple generator with integrated voltage control linked to PU lights would be much simpler. This way when you push the model, the headlight would light up. I think it would be a great alternative for fake piston engines. You could also use a supercapacitor instead of the battery box to charge it up and it should be able to keep the lights on for quite some time due to their low current use. -
Have the trailing links connect the axles in same orientation and length as drive axles.
