Its looks really organic. I like it a lot!

Hmm, there is no rule... I tend to add them to fill up gaps... But I learned that building the body and the chassis as standalone modules tends to get best results for me... Sometimes a model looks better withput and sometimes with panels, it totally depends on the style you are after... But generaly I try to use panels as often as possible because they smoothen the lines.

Effe's MOC Corner
Zerobricks replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Can you show where the skipping ocours? Problem with having 1 driveshaft for 4 axles or 8 wheels is that when one wheel is stuck it has to whitstand the power of what is usualy transfered to 8 wheels... Thats why I prefer using 1/motor per wheel or axle and you also get rid of differentials and get more control. -
So cute! Nice use of surfboard for the beek.

What about using brick-built U joints? Like these ones: They are a bit hard to see, black, next to diff. -

I spy my lil eye on a cracked U joint Jokes aside, thats an awesome model so far! Steering angle seems very high, over 35°? I hope the 12 tooth diff gears will hold, even though you have 3 (or is it 4?) x gear ratio after them.... By the way where are diff locks? Dont you know diffs are EVIL -
Hi! I've been very active here and one of the things I often do is helping people with their LDD builds where LDD "misbehaves" LDD files are usualy under 100k but the upload limit is quickly clogged up. Any way to increase limit so I dont have to upload other people's work on my sites? Thanks!

Here's the fixed model. www.bricksafe.com/files/Zblj/Lego%20digital%20designer%20models/Wheeled%20snake.lxf The axles had to be rotated for gears to be placed. One 5L axle was slightly too deep in the motor, thats why it didnt fit. In the future I suggest you to use 5,5L and 4L axles with stop where possible to keep the axles from sliding out.

Thanks, buddy, means a lot Thank guys! At the moment its has somewhere around medium offroad capabilities.. BUT Yes it could be used for truck trial, but without a crane and softer suspension. Also steering system would have to be reinforced a bit to take on the additional streain from bumps. And raising drive motors a bit higher would also allow it to go over larger bumps. Oh and lastly... NO DIFFS!

Here's the finsihed thing, Jim please remove the [WIP] Summary of functions: - All wheel drive (8x8xx) powered by 4 XL motors - Full live axle suspension - Working lights, fake engine and steering wheel - Four angled supports with pneumatic rams powered by an autopump - Liftable crane also powered by an autopump - 3-part extendable crane arm with working winch and slewing - Working winch with an automatic stopping system - Tiltable cab to reaveal the V8 piston engine - All functions with exception of winch are remotely controlled Length: 89 cm Width: 23 cm Height: 30 cm Total weight: 5,5 kg And of course the video: To summer up: This was one of my biggest, longest builds... I recorded the model on different locations at least 5 different times, totally recording over 5 hours of footage / 30 Gb of raw data. The video took me at least 5 days to edit, with an exceptional amount of tweaks, edits, greenscreen effects, fish-eye lens compensation, color correction and more... This was also ym first time I used LDD aniamtion sequences with additional opaque frames. I learned A LOT from the whole process and I think it helped me advance and opened up more possibilities for the future models and especially videos. So even though it may not be the best looking or functional model, it was still a great learning experience. P.S. And this is what the crane looked like after recording:
