News LEGO CREATOR 2014 News & Discussion
paul_delahaye replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The mountain is limited, about 2 burps in height, it is a £25 set remember! The log cabin looked nice, but it's a small basic creator set -
Small Update following picture view Camper with Canoe, very similar to the last camper van, but comes with the big red canoe from the Indian/pirate themes, nothing special, lime green stripe, white camper. 2 minifies. Jeep with Jetski(s ?) It's a Dark Red 4x4 pulling a trailer with 2 JetSki's aboard, I think one was lime green and the other was orange Wood Transporter - This one was not in the catalogue. Car Transporter - This was the best of the bunch, it's a 6 wide yellow cab european style truck, single axle, room for a car on the top deck and the lower deck. It pulls a trailer again with an upper and lower deck. but the noted point about the trailer, it only had a single axle, which is almost unseen on car transporters, they would usually have dual axles or tri axles in real life, but looks like it will be great for multiple copy's and mocing. Comes with 2 neat cars, one of which I think was white. The cars have the smart new wheel hubs. It appears to use 1 x 6 technic axles to hold up the top deck, the top deck is made of what looks like old Lego Ladders. Making the total width just over 6 studs wide. Racing Car 6 wide Octan racing colours, looked a little like the shape of a porsche 911, comes with a driver and a over sized trophy Monster Truck - I saw it, but must have been average as I don't have any memory of this one. Repair Car (probably a car for breakdown service). This was a street lamp repair vehicle, it's like the mining 4x4 from the other year, in orange with a white cherry picker on the back, the guy is repairing a street lamp, also included. Tow Truck (supposably fort rucks since we already had one for cars this year). This is a 6 wheeled heavy duty American Style Big Rig tow truck, it has a heavy duty lift arm on the back. It's chassis is light blue grey, it has an orange stripe and a blue cab/body on the truck. Airport Fire Truck - This is a big oversized 8 wheel red fire truck, (using 2, 4 windscreens, when will lego remake a 8 wide windscreen! I remember it having a pull out hose on the side, it was 8 wide. Using similar size wheels to the crane from the town centre this year. The wheels were black with black hubs. Overall, nice range of sets, I think the fire truck and the car transporter will be circa £24.99 whilst the Tow Truck, Camper Van and Car with JetSkis will be around £17.99 and the Monster Truck and Racing Car around £9.99 at a guess As for the police sets, as expected they were all fairly lame, the break-out of the police station is a very lack luster police station with a pick up truck using some chains to break someone out of jail. The Bandit's hiding place was nicely built, but we had one this year. The police boat transport for me was the best set of the bunch. The mobile control unit was just another police truck like all the others. The helicopter chase involves another oversized police helicopter. Some other interesting things to note is there is about 10 sets being released to compliment the Lego Movie being released on 14th February. These sets were listed in the catalogue, but the images were not available.

The cab is certainly only 6 wide on the new car transporter, the transporter bit is only just over 6 wide,

News LEGO CREATOR 2014 News & Discussion
paul_delahaye replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Couple of nice sets seen in the 2014 range, there was a cool creator Cat and Mouse set, plus a small £24.99 log cabin with a small mountain along side. -
I'm can give you all a little glimpse of 2014 42020 Twin-Rotor Helicopter - It's a small set, circa £9.99 it's like a chinook helicopter, uses shot blades only about 8 studs long per blade, both sets of blades rotate, but that's about it. It's blue and black in colour, maybe 4- studs wide by 16 studs long. 42021 Snowmobile - It's a small/medium 1st half set, black and lime green in colour, maybe £20 - £25 at a guess, only technic functions appear to be steering, front suspension, and a rear track, can't see if there is a lego engine or not, but I suspect there might be a little 2 cylinder one. 42022 Hot Rod - This was almost model team quality in terms of looks, maybe a £35 set, has a V6 lego engine up front, the hot rod is blue in colour, and the front half (engine and steering is light blue grey). Nice looking set, but again limited technic functions 42023 Construction Crew - This is a nice set, although slightly lacking compared to what people are hoping. It's a set with no figures (sorry to disappoint). It's a set made up of three construction vehicles, all 3 models are about 20 studs in length by about 8 - 10 studs wide. There is a 6 wheel american style dump truck, blue big rig shape cab, light grey tipper, functions appear to be steering and tipping. There is a red excavator, looks to have minimal functions, maybe 1 [/font]dig/lift function and finally a yellow loader, on a similar scale to 8453, maybe a tad smaller. I think this is a nice mixed set, with a likely price range of £49.99 42024 Container Truck - This is the highlight of the sets (possibly not including the special set which is normally added later) It's a European style Skip Truck, 6 wheels, similar scale (wheel size) to the flatbed truck of the other year. It has a Yellow Cab, Red lifting arms and comes with a Blue Skip. Likely also a £49.99 set. Power functions can be added but are not included. It's functions appear to be steering, and loading the skip. I guess you will be able to tip the skip as well. No sign of an engine. Looks like the truck below, but imagine with a yellow cab and the blue bits are red. 42026 Black Champion Racer. This is a simple £9.99 pull back racer 42027 Desert Racer. This is a simple £9.99 pull back racer Overall an average start to the year, nice to see more blue parts in next years lineup.

I wonder if the Airport Fire Truck is a hint towards another oversized airplane and airport set in the 2H sets?

And all those who said the "What is your 41999 license plate" thread would be dull! It's possible one of the most interesting of all the 41999 threads

Licensed Technic Sets.
paul_delahaye replied to JTS's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Obviously Lego would need permission to build a licensed set, but if they picked the right partner, I suspect many companies would be over the moon that Lego wanted to build a set which resembles their product. I suspect that may be the case with Maesrk for example? I bet Lego just give them a load of free promotional sets for Maesrk to use, I could be wrong, but I doubt it's financial like it would be with Star Wars/DC/Marvel, etc. I'd like to see a tie in to Catapillar/JCB something like this, but I guess if Lego can make a loader/Digger/Hauler/Bulldozer without the complications of a licencing agreement, why would they bother. Police sets, never saw that one coming!

The 8466 Offroader
paul_delahaye replied to Darth Dino's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I picked mine up during my dark period, I was up at Legoland Windsor in the day's when they used to have a great discount tent. They had hundreds of them for £40 each, one of those sets you now kick yourself for not buying a few of. What's worse is they also had loads of the pneumatic accessory set (to build the towing hook add on for 8466) at £15 each and I did not buy one........£150 on bricklink now. It does make you wonder what happened to all those sets, I doubt they ever sold them all, maybe they parted them out. -
Tunneler
paul_delahaye replied to KirTech LAB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think you need to put it to use on a sheet of Polystyrene with a video for full effect It's a beast -
I was more lucky than that, ordered them into store on Friday night, the 3 for 2 offer ran until Tuesday. They reduced the price on the crane to £149 from £179 on the Saturday, so I picked all 3 up for £298, saving £149. Probably my best lego saving ever! but with the 3 for 2 deals and the limited crawler, my wallet is in a bad way this month.

Former SAP exec's scheme to get LEGO for cheap
paul_delahaye replied to Mike S's topic in General LEGO Discussion
What makes even less sense is why a big wig in a job role as a senior exec with a company like SAP who was probably earning a 6 figure + income needed to do this and risked his job? Beyond me -
Like the Spongebob, and the Turtles, I'd love a full set of the figures, but I can only think the sets may be a disappointment, roll on the pictures
