I try to avoid skin tones myself, but they had an entire pirates theme made with flesh tones - Pirates of the Caribbean.

Does anyone know the origins of this MOC? I was unable to figure out who created it. I think it's really clever and I'd like to see more photos from the person who made it, but a reverse image search yielded nothing.

I really want this set. Even my fiancé likes it, and she often tells me how tired she is of my collecting Lego toys. There's a contest in the latest issue of the Lego Club Magazine to win this set, but the form asks for the child's name and age. I didn't see any rules saying it was only for kids. Are adults allowed to enter?

Why did the classic space helmets have dimples for a visor?
jodawill replied to jodawill's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Interesting. I don't think I've ever seen one of those before. Were there other visors besides the castle ones? -
See this post: Why did the original helmets have those dimples if there were never any visors? Or were there some visors that I'm just not aware of? Edit: Silly me, I just realized the answer is in the post I quoted. Apparently, there were some castle visors. In the original thread, only the image was showing, so I thought it was something that had never been produced. I don't know if I can delete my thread.

I absolutely adore that Fabuland torso! I wish I could get a t-shirt like that in real life.

Which is Your Favorite Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug Set?
jodawill replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I think the best minifigures are the elves. Although, as greenalfonzo pointed out, they don't wear hoods in the movie, I think they look awesome like that. As far as the actual set goes, I think the Laketown Chase is the only one worth writing home about. The buildings look pretty nice and I love that long boat part. I'm not a big fan of the lakemen armor, so I don't like the minifigures, but Peter Jackson chose that, not TLG.- 54 replies

I think we'll probably see Wild West come back before Pirates. The Lone Ranger theme sold really well despite how big of a flop that movie was. That may have been TLG's method of testing the waters before they release a proper Wild West theme. I bet we'll see Wild West again within a year or two.

This looks really familiar. Have you posted this on Reddit before?

Cool. Does that mean the studs from those actually form the walkway of the bridge?
-
Very clever. It took me a moment to realize what I was reading. I was very confused because I initially thought you were talking about your real life home town. I really hope I can get this set. I think this is the best modular building ever. If I do get it, it will be my first.

I just had an idea for those covered wagons. Since they lose their shape so easily, I wonder if it would be possible to reinforce them with the pneumatic tubes. I think I'm going to try that tonight. I hope my tubes are an appropriate size for that. I have a lot of the Lone Ranger soldiers too. I'm thinking about using them as a second army of some kind, maybe soldiers from a different camp or something. I wish TLG would have used bright blue for those so they'd be consistent, but the new ones do look nice in their own right.

How did you attach those tiles to the underside of the bridge?

Does Lego still make non-minifig printed parts?

That's really interesting. I've seen pictures of that set many times and I never even noticed that. -

I used to have some of those firemen with stickers. I think I might have sold them. They're not very useful today, but it's really cool to hold a piece of history in your hand. I also had some of the big figures and the original minifigures without moveable legs. -
I'm not a big fan of this theme, and I think this is one of the dullest of the bunch. Wildstyle's hood is a great piece that I don't think has been released before, but the paint limits its uses in MOCs. Meh.

This is terrific! It reminds me so much of the 1990s Pirates sets. I remember they did several shipwreck sets and they all looked dreadful (one of them I never even realized was supposed to be a shipwreck until I read that in a review; I always wondered why it had a sail). But you really did a great job making it look like an actual broken ship. Superb!

I love this. I think this is my favorite entry so far!

That's a good point. I honestly hadn't thought of that. Can you think of a set where stickers are applied to a textured surface? -
Heh, I just found a photo of the day I got this set for my birthday. (I couldn't even remember where it came from, apparently because I was more excited about Rocky Reef.) See it in front of the Toy Story can?

I agree that stickers are better in some situations. I actually think the way TLG uses stickers is usually for the best because I would rather have a lot of those parts without decals because I can use them in other situations. (For example, I have a lot of sloped bricks with a race car number number on it, which makes it useless for building roofs). The only use of stickers I can think of that bothers me is when they put it on tiles. In the Silver Mine Shootout, for example, a sticker was used for the "Keep Out" sign, which is unfortunate because that was one of the pieces I was looking forward to the most in that set. I don't normally apply any stickers, but for The Lone Ranger, I applied only the stickers I felt were necessary because I'm a big western fan. -
I got the polybag set when I was little. It wasn't my favorite, but I was glad that it included the goblet and the coins. My favorite small pirates set was Skeleton Crew. Does anyone remember the alternate instructions on the back? It included a little castle/fort type wall thing that I always thought was awesome.

Yeah, I'll probably get it because it has some great parts. But as far as the model goes, I'm not that impressed.

All of this is fantastic, but I love the vehicles most of all, especially those cars. Great job!
