Batteries
jodawill replied to jodawill's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I might try something like that. I could use a 9V AC adapter. -

It looks like that would be even more expensive than buying batteries. -

V2? Do you mean there's one newer than this? http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/8094_TECHNIC_Control_Center?file=8094_Technic_Control_Center.jpg I'm going to be using both types of power cables though, the old 9V and the new RC style. -
What kind of rechargeable batteries do you guys recommend? They're really expensive in stores and I need a bunch of them for my Brickworld display. I'm looking for some cheap ones on eBay, but I don't want to buy anything that's dangerous. The brand name batteries don't seem to be any cheaper on eBay than in the stores.

It must have taken forever to get those lined up perfectly without a baseplate.

These don't look like the Lego style to me. That new wizard hat in particular looks non-Lego.- 1,109 replies

I almost always start with physical bricks. I tear things apart and rebuild sections as I think of ways to improve my design. As for the issue of having too many distinct colors, the best solution I've found is to order parts off Bricklink. For example, I have a ton of dark red slopes and brown log bricks because I order big shipments of them from the stores that sell them for the cheapest. Those aren't common pieces in sets, but there are plenty to go around due to things like pick-a-brick, LUGbulk, and resellers parting out sets.

Great job! It really is a shame they never made any straight tracks in that size.

I've requested my fair share of parts from them in the past. But I think their system has become kind of buggy. A few days after I bought the new cargo train, the blue train base piece broke when the train derailed. They sent me the replacement part, but then about two weeks later, I got an e-mail saying they had just shipped it and that I should expect it by whatever date was a couple weeks away from then. I never got a second one. The system was just delayed for some reason. I've never been asked to prove my purchases or anything like that. It could be because a lot of the parts I've requested are from sets I've bought with my VIP card.

I think it's fair to say that, just as with the pirate theme, it's not a question of if, but when. The Lone Ranger film was a big failure, but the Lego theme sold incredibly well. Lego stores were selling out of those sets as soon as they got the shipments in. The cavalry army builder sets especially were flying off the shelves at a crazy speed. I predict we'll see it return within the next two years.

LEGO as an investment: LOTR and Hobbit themes
jodawill replied to Trunkbass's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
According to Brickpicker, Helm's Deep is up to $162 now. That's not terrible considering I only paid $57 for that set, but I paid $90 for two more of them that I opened for myself, haha. But I was really hoping it would be over $200 at this time, especially considering the last movie is coming out soon. I have a ton of smaller LotR and Hobbit sets too and two unopened Constitution Trains. I should have bought the cavalry army builder sets from The Lone Ranger instead. The train still hasn't gone up a dime. I bought four of them because I thought the value would double pretty quickly since it's a train, and I opened two of them. -

I waited a really long time for 9471 to go on clearance and it never happened. The best deal I ever found was about $5 off, so I just bought one for myself. I waited over a year to buy it. -

I've been hanging onto a sealed Helm's Deep for two years now and the value still hasn't gone up past retail price, so… -
The 2014 cargo train, IMO, is the best one they've released in a long time. If you're looking for one to buy, I recommend the new one. Note that Brickset says that one was a Toys 'R Us exclusive.

What piece is holding the flame? It doesn't look like anything I've seen before.

Nice. I like how you used the Technic bushings.
