Do you always try to have a backlog of sets to build?
jodawill replied to BirdOPrey5's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I don't buy sets for display. I often don't even build the sets I buy. I just buy sets for parts. I've never understood why so many people buy sets just to have them. Some sets are cool enough to warrant keeping together for a long time for decoration and whatnot, but I've seen a lot of people fill their basements and spare bedrooms with tons and tons of sets without ever building any MOCs. It seems to me that just takes all of the fun out of it. And that's probably why people buy so many sets. Once the set is put together, it's not fun anymore, so they move onto another set. -
survey Picture versus Video Reviews
jodawill replied to Bonaparte's topic in Forum Information and Help
I think there are other factors. I like to look at good photos of sets I don't have so I can look for extra details, and pictures are better suited for discussion. I love The Brick Show's reviews, but they serve a completely different purpose than Eurobrick's reviews. -
TLG doesn't have a patent on those parts, so people can do whatever they want with the design.

survey Picture versus Video Reviews

I definitely prefer picture reviews. I like The Brick Show's reviews, but I come here for picture reviews because I can see more details in the photos and most reviewers here do a great job at pointing out interesting parts and stuff that the Brick Show guys are clueless about. -
Needs more BURPs.

Ambassador Project - Haven Guard Flag & Torso Designs
jodawill replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
To be honest, I don't think orange really works for this type of minifigure myself. I can't really imagine anything other than blue or red. The armada theme had some really good green torsos. That worked really well for them, but I don't think it would for this type of soldier. Actually, a dark blue like the revolutionary war minifigure would work really well. -

This is the first time I've seen this topic. I love the idea of designing a new faction, but that orange is a nasty color. I don't think TLG would use it. They will undoubtedly go with a brighter color. -
They're only 9¢ each on Bricklink. http://www.bricklink...3024&colorID=49

Someone should break it down by weight. Not me because I'm too lazy. -
Are The SERIOUS PLAY Products A Good Source of Parts?
jodawill replied to CrazyDalton777's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You can see the parts in the picture. That kit seems to be reasonably priced. It's just a matter of whether or not you want those particular parts. Edit: I just checked the USD price on S@H. On closer inspection, I don't think this set is worth the price. If you want the parts, buy them from Bricklink. -
How important is it for you to write "LEGO" vs Lego?
jodawill replied to DPrime's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Interesting, related fact: Duncan used to own the trademark "yo-yo," but they lost it because it became a generic term for the toy and the court didn't find enough evidence showing that Duncan had made an effort to defend the trademark. So, yeah. This actually is a very big deal for TLG. That said, I still prefer to call them "Legos." I don't use it for any other brand. But really, what else are you going to call them? "Bricks" doesn't make any sense because most of the pieces are not bricks. You can't just call them "pieces" because that doesn't say anything about what they are. You could call them "LEGO pieces," but that's a mouthful. -
How did Lego become a gender battleground
jodawill replied to grum64's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You're right. Friends is not for everyone. It is for little girls, not feminists who want to turn other people's little girls into men. -

I've also had this problem with my old cables. There's a new cable that's compatible with the old ones. http://shop.lego.com...Listing=listing -
Is there an acceptable place on the forum to announce new Bricklink stores? I thought I'd seen that somewhere before, but I don't now.

It didn't sound to me like he was attacking you. He (and I too) was just saying that with all of the horrible things going on in this world, this is a pretty minor issue to be so vocal about. Just relax, man. We're not out to get you. It just seems like you're taking this too seriously. It's just a little toy.

Why don't you put all of that effort into something productive like dismantling the NSA or something?

I don't think the attention has been positive. Frankly, you've come off as quite a greedy cuss, which doesn't help you get more supporters. Why can't we just be happy for the fans who were able to take part in such a unique opportunity? I have a friend who gets much rarer items than this quite often because of his position in the community. I don't demand that TLG give me the same opportunities. I say, "Oh, that's cool" and move on with my life.

That doesn't seem likely to me. The stagecoach wasn't a terribly complicated build. It wouldn't have taken their designers long to come up with that. It wasn't very central to the story, but, if I recall correctly, it's seen in one of the few scenes with the lady with the gun in her boot. They probably wanted to include her somehow and that seemed like the most interesting way to market the minifigure. Also, the other sets were very specific to the film.

Well, this thread escalated quickly. Last I knew, this is a forum for adult fans of Lego. Hopefully at some point in our lives, each of us adults learned that we can't always have what we want.

Should LEGO cut ties with Shell?
jodawill replied to legoman19892's topic in General LEGO Discussion
So, I'm curious; have the mods had to delete quite a bit of Greenpeace spam on the forum lately? I've been seeing this crap pop up on all kinds of Lego websites and Facebook pages. I report them as spam whenever I can. It makes me upset that people are using my favorite toy as a source of controversy. Regardless of whether Shell is in the right or wrong. Lego is all about making fun toys for kids and kid-like adults to have fun with. It's not their place to take a stance on any political issues, and, as we should expect, they have not. I just saw people on Facebook talking about how the Arctic theme is teaching impressionable young kids the wrong lessons about drilling for oil in the arctic. The arctic theme doesn't have anything to do with oil! I know these people will never shut up, but hopefully they'll fling their crap in another direction soon.- 214 replies

I hope they release a really nice steam engine.
