  1. Thank you Alban, many an AFOL and LTC/LUG owe you a great debt for your hard work
  2. I see these as potential parts packs. I think that is lego's approach to AFOL trains these days, provide the key parts and then let the builders do the rest (at the very least I am glad they are still producing trains, though like everyone else, I would love a new set at the level of the Maersk or EN). I am also curious if there are enough parts in the new city trains to serve as a gateway AFOL train for builders who are wanting more than the current sets but have not yet ventured in to attempting a full MOC.
  3. That is massive! Excellent work (all of the trains are great too)
  4. That is a great steamer, the prototype must have been one of the last of the 4-4-0's built, looks like it is ca. 1900 (ha, googled it and it was built in 1899). Great job capturing the prototype in brick form.
  5. That looks really good.
  6. An excellent thread of inspiration here.
  7. Another excellent steamer!
  8. Great job with the tough angles (and excellent inspiration from Nate). Would look good as a black widow.
  9. That is simply brilliant! Very well done.
  10. Even if you never build it, a nice HP train would be great in a couple of respects. It would be an excellent gateway train set for AFOLs, a nice model to repaint in different colors, and potentially a parts pack for train heads. The one not-so good feature is that while the red engine is lovely in real life, red is a common color in lego-life.
  11. It just keeps getting better.
  12. That's a beauty
  13. Excellent call, if they can't/won't release an AFOL train set, that would make for a nice collector's item.
  14. What about a walking tour of the train layouts and displays, with each host highlighting their favorite bits?
  15. Excellent bit of retro building!
  16. This looks very good. I think the cars could benefit from some form of undercarriage but presumably you just haven't got to that bit yet. Excellent work
  17. Looking good!
  18. Yes, can't beat the roof for reception, but out the back is better than completely inside (grin). Looking again at your first choice for the roof, it is a 7 wide cab with a pair of 1x3 curved slopes and a 1x tile for most of the roof. Why not try dropping the sensor down 1 or 2 plates so that you could put the 1x3 curved slopes over it but then leave out the 1x2 tile? I think you would only have a small decrease in reception for a better looking roof line. You could even get really fancy and put a 1x2 grill tile over the sensor
  19. Modular platform extensions was my knee jerk reaction too. It would be interesting to have the option to have the awning over the platform on the extensions.
  20. I think the auxiliary tender was strictly a BR era addition after most of the steam support infrastructure had been decommissioned. During its working life I think it used track pans to take water on the fly. Regardless, given how puny the single tender on the EN I doubt lego would even do one tender justice. I think you probably nailed it. The HP fans would love it, so it would sell. The train fans would love it, so it would sell an extra 5% (grin).
  21. Amazing that you were able to fit all of the PF in to such a tiny and good looking moc like that. "my digital caliber says 1.35 inches long", now that is precision building (grin). One thought for the receiver, could you lay it with studs to the back of the loco so the receiver is out of the back wall of the cab? Won't be as good reception as out the roof, but it would probably be a trade-off worth considering.
  22. Excellent thread and excellent idea (though I'm old school and still have it in my mind that lego cars should be 4 wide (ignoring the the 6 wide trucks of the early 70's, grin). The 6+ wide road vehicles in the current sets bother me a bit for all of the reasons you mentioned. Makes sense that lego is going 6 wide cars from every angle except compatibility with trains. Your render above makes a compelling case. My problem is that I don't have time to build all of the cool trains I want to build. Then if I did, there are a couple of buildings. So road vehicles are #3 on the list. We need someone like you in my lego club (grin some more)
  23. Great looking cars, very effective. Now you are a true MOCer (grin)
  24. All great works, but I agree with Duq, the side dump car really stands out from the collection.
  25. I think the video is playing back at faster than real time (look at some of the kids in the background) but still impressive that they are running at top speed. The Hudsons are also impressive (gray NYC and black/dark red CP I believe). Scariest bit is the fact that there appears to be no stanchions or sneeze guards to keep fingers away from the layout (I know there are "don't touch" signs, but who reads these days)
